What a delightful discovery! We were looking for a place to enjoy a 3-generation Christmas tea and through the internet found Legacy House! Our hostess, Marsha, greeted us so warmly, and welcomed us to Legacy House as if we were in her home! The stage was set for a beautiful 2-hour shared afternoon. We enjoyed delicious chicken soup and a beautiful 3-tiered plate of traditional finger foods. To then be able to shop in the open retail space at leisure added the extra "je ne sais qua" [sic] to a completely enjoyable experience! We'll be certain to go back again! Thank you for adding such a special moment  to our Christmas time together!!!!
Would you go back? Hope so, but we don't live nearby.

I've been going to the Legacy House somewhat regularly for the past few years. I've always found the food, tea, and service to be excellent. In addition to their usual menu of scones, soup, and sandwiches, they've begun offering a themed meal that changes every month. I've tried their Valentine's Day special and their Irish-themed meal and found both to be delicious.

Comments:
This was my second visit to this tearoom and I have been disappointed both times. My husband and I visit a lot of tearooms and usually each order an afternoon tea tray. Our waitress seemed to be surprised at this and made us feel as if we were big eaters. We were also surprised that the price for afternoon tea did not include a pot of tea. The sandwiches were tasty but not nice size tea sandwiches but rather just a half a sandwich cut diagonally. The scones were the biggest disappointment since they were very dry, gritty, and tasteless. The pastries were okay but not great. When asked how things were, I simply responded, "okay" to which the person said, "only okay?" I mentioned that the scones were very dry. We were given us a 10% discount but it wasn't enough to make us go back.

I've visited the Legacy House Tea Room regularly since it opened more than two years ago, and it has always been a wonderful experience. I love to dine in the beautifully decorated tea room with large windows overlooking a country view. This is my favorite place for lunch or tea. The tea sandwich recipes are simply out of this world. The scones melt in your mouth, especially with the glorious clotted cream. The desserts are artistic and delicious. The atmosphere is quaint and peaceful, and is perfect for a relaxing conversation with friends or out-of-town guests. Madison is fortunate to have this very special place.

The tea room is cozy, close enough to the gift shop for browsing, but still comfortable in its own space. The tea sandwiches were tasty, fresh, and well presented. The variety of fillings (meat, vegetarian, salad, seafood) was impressive! Marcia, the tea room owner, is very pleasant and attentive to her customers. I look forward to a return visit, when an outdoor garden patio may be part of the afternoon tea experience.

Comments:
Great location for a tearoom. My two friends and I chose the cushions in the front window area (separated with a curtain) and were not rushed during our hour and a half visit. This converted house was cute, but I thought there could have been more offered to go with our tea. Several, small cookies were added complimentary, but I would have ordered some accompanying treats if there had been a nicer variety. The tea was interesting and good. The service was very laid back. They did not bother us, nor did they offer us anything else.
Would you go back? Maybe.

Have bought their loose leaf Assam and Ceylon teas. It happened to be orange flavoured Assam BOP and orange flavoured Ceylon BOP. I think it had to be marked as flavoured; I was disappointed since I don't drink flavoured teas. The price is quite low -- $12 per pound.

An ordinary coffee shop in a town full of them. But here you'll find about 20 different types of tea (stored, unfortunately, in glass jars). Best of all, the price of loose-leaf tea hasn't been adjusted in about 20 years. 1/4 lb is only $3! For regular customers, be sure to ask for a frequent buyer punch card. A great resource for inexpensive tea! I buy my everyday Ceylon here -- a very nice tea.

I came acroos "Roots and Legends" on a recent business trip to Racine. Dr. Arthur Shatuck has an extensive knowledge of Chinese tea and tea service. His collection of white teas are just excellent and delicious. Can't wait to visit again. I highly reccomend it! Michael Seyller
