Comments: Still wonderful after all these years! I started eating here right after they opened - 14 years ago.
The food, service, ambiance - all are superb. The prices are right on target. I had lunch with a friend here

would recommend avoiding this location at all costs. The food is over-priced. The management and staff are difficult to

cup of tea, if you want light tea service with a scone and a pot, or if you want a great meal, this place is perfect! This is
without a doubt my favorite tea destination. Awesome service. The atmosphere is less Miss Marple tea house and
more Metro Zen. Very relaxing. My husband and I double date with some friends a few times a month and we usually
end up here. Yes, this place is great for the guys, too. Another thing to love a bout the Steeping Room is

will not be disappointed. And its locally owned!!!

Comments: The Adolphus Hotel offers an elegant, gracious
afternoon tea ... as one
would expect from this grand old hotel dating from 1912. Yet it
offers a couple of surprises that distinguish it from a typical
hotel tea service. First, the 3 courses are slightly different from
the norm. Instead of having the sandwiches and the scone as two
separate courses, they combine them into the first course. The
second course is the pastries, which is usually the 3rd and final
course. But at the Adolphus the final course, following the
pastries, is a separate course devoted to chocolates. As a
chocoholic, I must confess to being delighted with this additional
course. The next surprise was their pairing of different teas with
each course. I'm used to only getting one selection of tea in one
teapot. But here, I had a tropically-flavored green tea with the
sandwich and scone course; a delightful orange-jasmine blend of
China and Ceylon black teas; and ... the perfect tea with the
chocolate course ... a fabulous pear caramel tea classified as a
dessert tea consisting of another delightful blend of China black
and Ceylon teas. The hotel uses Mighty Leaf tea, just as do many of
the other fine hotels in which I've had afternoon tea. And, to
accompany this delightful repast, there is a pianist to provide
classical music from a magnificently carved and massive antique
grand piano. Finally, I must say a word about the food. At first I
was tempted to rate it as "very good." Although beautiful
and of an interesting variety, the five sandwiches and the currant
scone were not as flavorful as the fare at other fine hotels. But
then the pastries came. This is not normally my favorite course, but
at the Adolphus the pastries are fabulous. As if the five pastries
(lemon tart, chocolate éclair, mango cake, chocolate cake and
Bavarian cream tart) were not enough, the chocolate course was
melt-in-your-mouth delicious. It consisted of 2 flavorful meringue
cookies, one small square each of white and dark chocolate
monogrammed with an A for Adolphus, and a homemade chocolate truffle
with nut cream filling. What you get for your $35 ... which, by the
way, includes both valet parking and gratuity for the tea server ...
is a delicious and bountiful selection of teas and food served
graciously in a beautiful setting. Without a doubt, this is the best
tea in Dallas ... especially since Lady Primrose's has closed.
Would you go back? Hope so, but we don't live nearby.

Tea: Excellent. Food: Excellent. Service: Excellent.

Comments: Thanks to catteacorner.com’s listing, we have
found a great tearoom in the Preston/Northwest Highway area of Dallas.
From the exterior, one would never guess this was a tearoom at all.
When I phoned, I was told that they had “an international menu,”
which didn’t sound promising. Since there was no parking available
near Le Madeleine, we braved this small café and were delightfully
surprised. The meal began with hot herbed tomato juice and a cheese
wafer. Then, we sampled the apricot spice decaf tea, quiche Lorraine,
and ham and cheese croissant sandwiches, all of which were excellent.
Meals were served with a thick, savory, broccoli cheese soup and a
variety of mini muffins. (Some Mexican and Italian items were on the
menu, so it was “international.”) A children’s’ menu,
catering, box lunches, and afternoon tea are also available. Service
was excellent, prices moderate. Definitely a keeper on our tearoom
list!

Comments: Many things were different than what I am used to at high

Comments: FABULOUS! I attended my first British afternoon tea about 3 weeks ago in Hong Kong at The
Pegasus Hotel. I enjoyed it so much I sought out a tea experience at home. This was wonderful! Charles is an
exquisite and experienced host his recommendations and attentive service made the experience even more delightful
and enriching. Everything was first rate nice atmosphere with the harp accompaniment and the sandwiches and
pasteries were delectable. You have your choice of teas and the scones are served warm and you are allowed to
take home your unfinished desserts. I recommend having a light lunch on the day you decide to have tea because it will
be a nice fulfilling meal. The pastries are just right not too sweet. The scones are exquisite and the tea is fabulous.
We look forward to visiting Charles again soon.

Comments: Tea at the St. Regis was a highly enjoyable experience. Along with the
expected touches--the elegance, the comfortable chairs and sofas, the Wedgwood
china, the harpist--we were favored with the best "tea master" I've seen
yet--Charles, who runs the tea room with an eagle's eye. In his proper morning coat
and striped trousers ("Six days a week in a tux and tails makes them feel like jeans
and a T-shirt"), he looked every bit the part, and his authoritative knowledge was
enhanced by a delightful sense of humor. He regaled us with quick stories and witty
comments that added greatly to the good food and incomparable atmosphere.
The tea is Harney and Sons; we very much enjoyed their exclusive blend and found it
to be mellow, good either with or without milk, and exquisitely balanced
(as one would expect of a Harney blend). I asked that the tea be decanted in the kitchen
before being brought, but Charles assured me that he had his own method, and that I
would like it--"Trust me!" The first cup was just a tiny bit
underbrewed, but after that, he was so quick about pouring our refills (we never did have to refill our own
cups; the man is amazing, dashing about the tearoom yet never seeming hurried) that
it never tasted stewed or overbrewed. Charles truly cares about each detail of the
tea service, and is justly proud of the pastry chefs; their products were
outstanding. The raisin scones were beautiful, though not as hot, flaky,
and fresh as they might have been. Overall, this was a delightful, very-nearly-perfect tea experience, and this space
does not allow me to list all of the things we enjoyed about it.

The
Garden Cottage Tearoom, North Richland Hills, TX
Visited:
April, 2002
Meal: Private party. Type of tea: Teabags. Served: In a teapot.
Tea: Excellent. Food: Excellent. Service: Excellent.
Appearance: Excellent.
Comments: The Garden Cottage Tearoom seats about 30-40 diners
for lunch from 11am to 2pm. It is good to have reservations as they only
have one waitress and one cook. All meals are prepared on site and fresh
daily. Flavors change within a set menu: soup, sandwiches, quiche (with
crust that melts in your mouth), out of this world desserts, flavored
tea and coffee. If you make reservations enough in advance you can
request favorites. (My favorite: bacon and cheese quiche, a garden salad
with Vidalia onion dressing (the house dressing), vanilla/apricot iced
tea, banana caramel pie and pralines & cream coffee). The ambiance
is perfectly matched to the Victorian aura of the antique shop. This is
a great place for a wedding or baby shower. Or plan a leisurely lunch
with time for shopping and you won't be disappointed with this charming,
"hidden treasure." Key word is time: this is not "fast
food," but definitely worth the wait! Reasonable prices $4.95
to 8.95; two people can have a nice lunch with dessert for under $20.

Tea: Poor. Food: Poor. Service: Poor.

Comments: The experience was fine until we received a dirty knife, a cold cup of soup and a salad that just
consisted of lettuce. After politely asking for the fruit salad instead we were yelled at and told that that's what we
ordered and there was no need for a substitution. Eventually, she just brought 1 of the fruit salads that we
requested. She yelled at us again about a billing issue that was clearly her mistake. She never apologized for any of
her mistakes or the inappropriate tone of voice she used. Then when speaking to the owner about the situation she
gave the excuse that they were busy, rudely said an unmeaningful sorry and turned her back to me. Then after
being treated like this the waitress had the nerve to tell us we were acting ugly. This was the worst customer service
I've EVER experienced from a waitress and owner when trying to resolve an issue with service.
Would you go back? Sorry, no.

Into
My Garden Tearoom, Plano, TX
Visited:
December, 2007. Meal: Theme tea. Type of tea: Loose leaf. Served: In a
teapot.
Tea: Good. Food: Excellent. Service: Excellent.
Appearance: Good.
Comments: It is located in a historic building (read: a bit rundown) in the back of a gift shop. They've tried hard to
make a girly tea room, but you still notice that you're essentially in a warehouse. However, all that fades when
the food arrives. Some of the best tea food I've ever had (and I've been to tea rooms all across the nation and even the
U.K.!). Generous portions, tremendous sandwiches, fluffy scones, and yummy desserts--all freshly made on the
premises. The service was also tremendous. I was there with my niece to celebrate her birthday and they made a
huge fuss over her, taking lots of pictures of us. Be forewarned: to get to the tea room, you must pass through
lots of dolls and gifts. It could inspire whining in the little ones. Overall, an excellent value for the money and a staff
that more than makes up for the awkward setting!
Would you go back? Hope so, but we don't live nearby.

Patti's Place Tea Room & Bakery ,
Plano, TX
Visited:
May, 2008. Meal: Lunch. Type of tea: Iced tea. Served: In a
glass.
Tea: Excellent. Food: Average. Service: Average.
Appearance: Good.
Comments: We tried Patti's Place for lunch and were a bit disappointed in the small menu offerings. They do not even offer
chicken or tuna salad. The egg salad was bland at best. It was very odd
that you leave the table to order and pay in the bakery area, and are expected to tip then (if paying by credit card) before you are even
served. We waited a long time to get drinks, then learned the unsweet iced tea listed was actually peach mango. They had no plain and had
to make it special, which took longer. The menu items seemed overpriced and at least for that much should have included a cookie.
We paid $15.75 for sandwich/sandwich combo and drink, which did not include tip! They need rugs too, the echo with the wood
floors is very noticeable.
Would you go back? Maybe.

Comments: My friend and I had a great experience at Patti's Place. The location is unique in that it is in an old
historic home in Plano. The decor is not like your typical tea room. It was "texas style", which I think made it more
relaxed and fun. Food was VERY good, the tea (100 selections) was served in an individual tea pot and actually
stayed hot for the whole meal! Dessert was awesome! I would recommend Patti's Place to anyone interested in
great food and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere!

Meal: Lunch. Type of tea served: Loose leaf and teabags. Served: In a

Tea: Poor. Food: Fair. Service: Poor.

Comments: The service was atrocious. The waiter, a young Hispanic male who wore sunglasses the
entire time, did not remember to bring milk for the tea or the ice water we
requested and would disappear into the back room for long periods of time. We noticed that he failed to bring essentail
compnents of high [sic] tea to the table next to us as well. They
were quite put out and justifiably so. (We were the only two occupied tables).
What should have been a relaxing, pleasant time turned into a meal of utter frustration
for both parties. While the ambience is excellent, it is shattered by a total failure of the owner to ensure that the
experience was that of a British tea shop.

Comments: Bawdsey Manor is located in Schertz, Texas, just
northeast of San Antonio. The building is a renovated garage -- but step
inside and you are in a different world: cottagey, chintzy, cosy. The
tearoom [mentioned in the September 1998 issue of "Southern
Living"] is run by two British sisters. The walls are filled with
pictures of the royal family, tea towels, maps of Britain. Strewn about
are guidebooks to Britain, teapots, teacups, tea cosies. A few British
foods are sold, including the sisters' own scone mix.
The tearoom is open on Tuesday and Thursday from 11am to 2pm, and on
Friday and Saturday from 11am to 3pm. You may go for either lunch or
tea. Reservations for tea are required.
Our tea was delicious and beautifully served. Refreshments were brought
on a two-tiered tray. The bottom tier was overflowing with sandwiches:
cucumber, ham and cheese, chicken salad, cheese frittata with tomato,
garnished with cucumbers and tomatoes. The top tier included enormous
scones filled with whipped cream, jam, and a strawberry tart. Also
included on the top tier were desserts: lemon custard in mille
feuilles, strawberry tart, chocolate covered cookie. The food was
delicious and the serving size generous.
The service was personal and friendly. Our one disappointment was that
there was no selection of teas. We were served orange pekoe tea from
teabags. It was, however, brewed in a teapot and piping hot, and served
with milk.
The cost of tea was $16.50 per person. We felt that the setting, the
service, and the generous size of servings made this a more than
reasonable price. We enjoyed our afternoon, and would return.
