This is a darling little place in old town Beaverton ... an old house with the tea room hidden upstairs. We hosted our daughters 8th birdthday party and her and her friends had a blast. The owner, Julie, is the most charming business owner we've ever met! Her bubbly personality and the way she made all the girls feel very "princess-like" was much appreciated! Julie played games with the girls and taught them all about etiquette. Julie uses Beaverton Bakery for her goodies and they were great! The tea was wonderful as well! You will not be disappointed!

I live across town and try to stop in often to visit, have a cup of tea and some lavender cookies and sit and chat a while to my good friend Claire, the shops owner. It is always full of customers coming and going, enjoying tea or finding a treasure. I enjoy talking with the customers and hearing their stories. Peaceful, delightful, enchanting a must to come in for a visit ... and if you speak French Claire will be delighted.

This was a wonderful experience. I am visiting for about a month and plan to make this tea room my weekly hangout. The food was exceptional and Claire, the owner of the antique store is charming and a talented artist. I enjoyed our conversation. I always try to find a local tea room in any city I visit, I am so happy I found Tea Thyme and Lavender. This is a must visit place, you won't be disappointed!

This place is a spectacular find! The owner is French so do not expect a traditional English tea, think more Continental style. The tea was perfect! I had Lavender scones with creme fraiche and 3 kinds of Jam. My mother had an amazing orange short bread cookie, and then we split some raspberry tea cookies. It is so refreshing to find a tea place in the Portland metro area where you can drop in and just enjoy a "GOOD" scone. You can make reservations for afternoon tea. It is quiche and salad with scones and pastries. The owner also  let us try the gateaux. It was very good also. Tables are set up around the shop so it is very casual, and so many fun antiques and collectibles, make sure you bring shopping money along too. Make sure to have a french truffle also they are the perfect end to a great visit.

Really enjoyed the French owner, Clare and her honest French spin to absolutely everything. The truffles were amazing, her homeade "family secret" salad dressing was delicious, and we had the black lavender tea that was so mellow and fragrant I bought a few ounces for myself. This is located in an antiques store that is beautifully set up in colors and themes. A wonderful tea for two!

Stopped in on our way through from Mt. Shasta. The ambiance took me back in time, everything about it took me back to the deco of my youth. The propieter's warm hospitality enhanced our visit and we found more than tea. The Irish Soda Bread scones were scrumptious. To our surprise there was much more than tea with all the art and gifts available. We even got to check our email as she offers free wifi and has computers available.

The owner, Barb Simmons was an elegant and gracious hostess. The atmosphere was pleasant, decorated in Christmas decor. There was soft, Christian music playing in the background. My mother and I were asked several times in the entire half hour of our experience if everything was okay, did we need more tea, and so on. The tea and pastries were also excellent. I have recommended Barb's shop, as well as her Tea & Treats to others!

We came in very close to closing time, and they where still willing to seat us. The staff was very friendly, and the food served was fresh and delicious. While I did not try the quiche (I wanted tea sandwiches) I heard every one around me raving about it, and they ran out while we where there (they where still letting people come as we where leaving, it seems they stay open if there is demand)

We had a lovely time at "Lovejoys" in Florence. In fact, we journeyed 1.5 hours to have "High Tea" lunch. The Tea was delicious, the ambiance was just right, the service was prompt and the servers were friendly and informative. Have been back twice and shall go again. I would like to open a shop locally similar to this establishment. Well worth the time expended to experience this Tea Room. The food was delicious by the way.

This is the second time I brought my friend here for her birthday. We enjoy the shopping experience in the store, as well as the tea and food. It has an enjoyable ambiance, and the owners that wait on you are very solicitous; without being overwhelming. My friend and I use this time to catch up on months of back gossip and family updates, so spend a long time over a relatively small nunchion. We never feel rushed or harried about our use of the table for an extended period. The tea selection seems to be quite good, although I am a boring traditionalist who only ever orders Earl Grey! The choices of savories and sweets is small, but all very well made. The prices are reasonable. The food is beautifully displayed and the correct one to two bite size.

As a visiting 'Brit', I was recommended this place for shopping and a really good 'Cuppa'. Wow, what a find for those of us who long for treats from home. It was by far the best selection of British foods that I've seen. A small Tearoom is off to one side, and they serve possibly the best quiche I've ever tasted. Full afternoon teas are all available. All the ladies were also British, very welcoming, and made us feel very much 'at home'. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great selection of foods, or china etc. and wants a cozy, comfy place to relax with a perfect cup of tea after spending all their money!

My afternoon tea at this establishment was the worst I have ever experienced. Do not come to the tea room if you enjoy fresh scones, pastries, and savory finger sandwiches. The scones were tasteless, microwaved, and rubbery. They are not made on the premises. One friend said a KFC biscuit would have been better. The Devonshire cream was okay, but the owner didn't want to provide more than a miniscule dollop. When I asked for more cream, they said they were running out and would charge more for additional cream. The lackluster sandwiches also left much to be desired. The worst was the salmon sandwich, which had no salmon (although there was a brown smear of something fishy)! And finally the pastries were a sad assortment of Costco brownies (iced with canned icing), cheap sandwich cookies, and a stale lemon tart. Again, I would not recommend this place, and I feel the owners should be embarrassed as Brits to serve such poor quality fare.

A delightful tea room and shop in a quaint village setting. The shop had wonderful items including lots of British food, canned, frozen, bottled and many types of cookies and such. The tea room is a wonderful side room that has an ambiance all its own. Doesn't seat too many, but each table is adorned with fresh flowers and is not so close to another table that you hear every word spoken. There is also a cute little room called the "Cozy Room" it has three benches and a table in the middle, would be an adorable place for an intergenerational meeting. The food was excellent, sandwiches, scones, hot savories and the desserts. The tea variety was good and the service outstanding. The owner was available for  discussion. When you needed more of something it was provided without question. (I guess I never have enough lemon curd to go with my scones!) My one comment would that cubes sugar would have made it a little more authentic for me, but it did not detract from the experience at all.

As an English Lass l never dreamed that when l moved to Lake Oswego l would find such a wonderful British shop. Not only is the store stocked with an abundance of British foods, it also boasts a range of Tea Pots and china unlike any l have seen prior to this. l have had lunch, tea and just a cuppa here over the past couple of months and have enjoyed every minuet of the experience. The tea was lovely as was the food and the service was second to none. The owner is lovely and welcomes you with a cheeful greeting each time you visit as do her staff. To top of all of this the view of Mt Hood from the Tea room window is spectacular. l will visit again and again.

Mrs. B's is a charming tearoom set in the back of a gift shop and it is always decorated in seasonal colors. It is a little oasis where the tastiest tea food and friendliest service are offered. Barbara loves what she does and it shows, always catering to her guests and making sure everything is just right. She makes the most divine chicken sandwich as well as some very interesting sandwiches which match the season! Afternoon tea includes sandwiches, savories, scones, and desserts for $11.95. She also has items available. I really recommend this tearoom if you are looking for a respite from the world.

This is an interesting tea and coffee room with Internet connections available, magazines for browsing, and even a chess table should you be so inclined. They also have a few books for sale. The décor is comfortable with lots of wood and plants and comfy overstuffed chairs. They carry teas from Rishi, Tao of Tea, Soma, and Leaves. I had a very good Jade Spring from Tao. Tea was served in one of those "tea for one" pot and cup combinations. The food was mostly pastries probably made elsewhere since they were wrapped in plastic. I had a cookie which was adequate, but not great. The café next door looks interesting, however, with lots of vegetarian offerings.

I went with my sisters and niece and we all loved it! We required a vegan menu, which they made especially for us with just 1 days notice! Everything was the delicious!! The sandwiches, scones, cakes .. it surprised me how creative they were with the limited ingredients we required. We even asked about the recipes they used .. it was all so good!! Weve been to other tea rooms, but this one surpassed them all by far! A definite gold star for the 2 wonderful ladies that run the show there!! We dressed up in hats, feathery boas .. one of my sisters even put on the whole Miss Tea outfit lol, poofy dress and all! We had a great time! Definitely going back. Want to tell everyone i know about this place, so they can experience it and walk away smiling just like we all did!! Great memories made here.

We visited this little tea room one afternoon a few years ago, needing a spot of tea in the afternoon. We both ordered cream tea and shared a serving of trifle. The hostess put the jam and cream on the scones before serving; she appeared rather annoyed when I asked for more cream. I really don't like strawberry jam, but it was already on the scone, so there wasn't much that could be done. When my partner scooted the chair back from the table between courses, the chair made a noise; the hostess literally came flying from out of the prep area, glaring at my partner. When she served the trifle, we noticed mold on the raspberries and pointed it out. Rather than be embarrassed or offer to replace it as would have been appropriate, she became very defensive. Needless to say, we paid the bill and left. I cannot recommend this establishment, as the entire experience was very odd and uncomfortable.

This is a wonderful private tea room. I previously frequented the owner's retail location which was wonderful too. The owner, Cheryl, is sweet and generous. My sister and I were able to have a lovely tea while enjoying the peaceful setting and a quiet conversation. Cheryl accomodated just the two of us prior to a larger tea party already had booked as she does have a four person minimum. All the food was extremely delicious and presented beautifully. The service was excellent too. The tea room decor is quaint reminding me of my grandmother's home. I will definitely be returning often. I am so happy to have rediscovered Cheryl's Cup of Tea.

Tea: Fair.  Food: Fair. Service: Poor.  Appearance: Excellent.
Comments:
The atmosphere for Christmas tea was very beautiful and festive. Service was very slow and waiter had no tea knowledge and seemed embarrassed. The tea was loose leaf and the small pot was half full of tea leaves, the tea arrived so strong it was undrinkable! Food was marginal. Very expensive. It is such a beautiful venue but a shame their afternoon Christmas tea is so poorly done.

There were 8 of us attending for holiday (Christmas) afternoon tea, with optional champagne (extra). The service, from the moment the hostess pointed us to an upstairs room and left us to fend for ourselves, to the unusually long wait for our checks to arrive was embarrassingly amateurish. The tea arrived, loose, in individual pots, but the waitress couldn't even tell us how long it had steeped or when it would be ready. She acted like she didn't know it mattered. I don't really blame her, it appeared it was her first day on the job, and that she wasn't well-trained. The food was fine, and the scones were truly delectable (the one bright spot here). But, for the price of $32 per person plus gratuity of nearly $7, for afternoon tea, I would expect much more. Save your money, and go elsewhere.
Would you go back? Sorry, no.

This is sort of an odd tearoom review, since I was unable to have tea in the actual Tea Lounge while I stayed at the Heathman Hotel. They have limited their tea service to weekend afternoons, and the Tea Lounge is a casual dining area the rest of the time (with live jazz, cocktails, and small plates in the evening). However, I did have tea several times in my room (at the Heathman Hotel) and think it is worth noting that this is a wonderful place for tea-lovers to stay. Chef's Choice electric kettles are in every room, along with teacups & saucers. The makings for their special blend of herbal tea are placed next to one's bed for a nighttime brew, and other looseleaf teas are available by request. Excellent tea snacks (artisan cheeses, toast, pastries, etc) are available via room service, 24 hours a day. If you really want some excitement, stay in a room ending with "03" -- they're supposedly haunted, although nothing woke me up after my cup of chamomile before bedtime! :)

The ambiance of the Heathman's tea room is very elegant and peaceful. The room has been restored to it's original opulance of the turn of the century. The fire is very cheery and IF there is music on the grand piano, divine. Being that this is the only high [sic] tea served in Portland that I can find, I was very disappointed in the small but quality selection of teas. My daughters are vegitarian and we were amazed that such a fine establishment offered such basic foods for them. The equivalent of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. We had even called ahead so that they could be prepared. The service was very slow. We sat with empty tea pots for quite a long time, which I feel is not what I came there for if one is paying very dearly for an experience. A bright spot in all of this was the scones! They were to die for and we are scone snobs! Yet they did not come with any clotted cream or lemon curd, only prepackaged jelly and marcapone. Over all I feel they have become lazy since they have a monopoly in the high [sic] tea market.

I really go here more for the ambience of having tea at the Chinese Garden, and walking in the garden before and after. The tea is fine, and the knowledge of the wait staff about the ceremonial traditions makes it a nice experience. I have had light food here, too, but the menu is very limited, so there is not much to recommend other than the tea and ambience. But, that alone, is worth coming.

We finally took the long awaited trip down to the Portland, Oregon Classical Chinese Gardens. Touted in the pamphlet as being the largest authentic urban Suzhou-style Garden outside China, we've been peering in through the sculpted windows every time we happened to be downtown. Last year it looked a little barren, but the plants have matured now and we finally decided it was time to go.
Hidden in the center of the garden, like a jewel in the belly of the Buddha, is the Traditional Tea House where we stopped to explore the sampling of fine Chinese teas. Run by a local tea house named Tao of Tea which is known for their exceptional teas and attention to detail, we expected the perfect tea experience. Of course nothing is perfect and some of the very qualities brought by success detract from the final experience. The Garden itself was crammed with tourists, with all the bustling, crowds, and cameras that one would expect. Inside the Tea House I was hit by the contradictory sight of a serene and authentic interior packed full of kids and tourists. However given the realities of tourism, this can only be expected in such a venue.
Our menu, although short, was promising. Not a tea bag in the place. I chose one of my favorites, the Dragon Pearl Jasmine; my wife, a Frozen Summit Dong Ding; and our friend picked a Jade Spring Green. The tea server was polite and did his best to instruct the group on the use of the traditional Gai wan, obviously knowing a good deal regarding tea and the culture surrounding it. I appreciated the authenticity of the Gai Wan, but questioned the average tourist's ability to get a good cup of tea with it. By the time the tea had cooled enough to drink and our friend had figured out how to hold back the floating leaves with the lid of the cup, it was too bitter to drink. We found out later that the Gong Fu style of serving was only done upstairs which we would have preferred, but which was never offered to us.
However I and my wife both enjoyed our cups and the water was refilled promptly and with grace. The décor is nearly perfect, with a host of Yixing tea pots on display. I particularly liked the open display case of pots between the serving area and the kitchen. Peering into the bustle and steam through the wall of small secret shapes lent an air of mystery to the whole process.
The Tea House itself suffers from the same problem as the entire garden, which is, it is a victim of its own success. There were simply too many people there. I appreciate the traditional style of using the Gai Wan to serve tea and I love watching the unfettered agony of the leaves, but I suspect many people come away liking tea less rather than more due to the level of skill required to catch the tea at that perfect moment. We could not help but suspect that the Gai Wan was chosen partly because it is easier to serve and moves the tourists through faster.
All in all, they have all done a rather extraordinary job. The Gardens are really extraordinary with waterfalls built out of other-worldly stone, and the lotus standing up in the lake like fireworks on flamingo legs. The crush of people wandering about and blocking the view is no worse than I experienced many times at such places in Asia, and the tea house does admirably given the circumstances. They have a good and true product which they dispense with as much skill and sincerity as they can muster. I would however, suggest a visit on a weekday when the the masses might not be so apparent. Smaller crowds, a little more time, and perhaps a serving in the Gong fu style upstairs could well make a visit here a life changing experience. No lie.

I visited Tao of Tea with my mother. We had a good conversation while we sipped our Japanese tea. We sat in front of a Buddha statue and listened to the water fountain on the other side of us. We admired the bamboo and atmosphere. Even though the place was packed when we left we still felt like we were at OM. Then we went next door to their retail shop and purchased tea to take home.

This review is for Tao of Tea located at 2112 NW Hoyt Street. Great food, relaxing Asian atmosphere, and well-prepared tea. I think that the Tao of Tea in Portland is one of my favorite-ever tea rooms, in part because of the wonderful tea and food, but also because of the style and service. Each type of tea is served in the appropriate pot and/or cup (from gaiwan to yixing to tsetsubin), making every person's experience just a little different. The food is all vegetarian, and there are some incredible desserts. This will be a must-stop place for me whenever I visit Portland.

This is a small, intimate tea room setting. The décor has a very earthy, tribal feeling, which lends itself very nicely to to wide array of exotic teas. It is definitely not a "High Tea" [sic] type of place, although they do offer a good assortment of pastries/desserts including a favorite of mine, green tea ice cream. One particularly nice touch is that each tea is served according to where it is from. Typical English teas are served with china cups, while African teas come with gourd-like cups, etc. The Tao of Tea also offers a dinner menu which consists of mainly Eastern type food, an example of a dish is Dal (spicy lentils). Service can sometimes be a bit slow, and if it is friday or saturday evening, expect to wait awhile to get in.

Tea Chai Té offers seven varieties of house-blended chai, as well as bubble tea and many loose teas. They had over sixty types of loose-leaf tea the last time I visited. The shop is very small, and their food selection consists of only a few pastries. The shop is usually operated by only one or two servers at a time, so there is sometimes a wait to be served. Hot tea is served in a generous glass pot. Located on the top level of a well-maintained Victorian building, the shop has wonderful ambiance. People come and linger for hours, just sipping a pot of tea and reading a book, or using a laptop with the free wireless access point. It is often hard to find a seat when the shop is busy, particularly evenings and weekends. Tea Chai Té displays local artwork on a rotating basis, and they have teapots and accessories for sale as well.

I've been to this tea room many times over several years, and have not yet been disappointed. They have a huge selection of teas to drink there by the pot, or loose by the pound, to take home. The staff are very knowledgeable about tea here, so they can help you select a variety to suit your taste. The tea comes loose in a strainer and they bring you a little hourglass timer, all set. They tell you exactly how long your variety should steep. Their scones are amazing, delicate, buttery delights, served with your choice of lemon curd or berry preserves and clotted cream (the real deal). They also serve lunch items, like grilled sandwiches and small savory pastries, which I have also enjoyed here. Around the perimeter, on the shelves, is a nice array of tea pots, cups and serving accessories that can be purchased as well. For tea lovers in Portland, this is one tea shop you won't want to miss. Prices are reasonable, too.

The back room with the overstuffed chairs is relaxing and cozy. There is a wide choice of foods, quiche, salad, or panninis. They also serve bubble teas. Great little place to stop for an hour, on a hot or rainy day.

The Tea Zone has a fantastic selection of teas from green teas to oolongs and herbals. A tea for anything that ails you. The staff was very knowledgeable of their teas and gave me (a novice) great suggestions. We had a great grilled sandwich and they have a good amount of pastries. The atmosphere could use a little more cozy for my taste (at least in the front sitting area) If you can get a seat in the back room it's quite cozy. It's definitely a repeater for me. The Tea Zone near downtown Portland, Oregon is an establishment that does nearly everything right. They have an extensive and informative tea menu that carries everything from Dragon Pearl Jasmine to a beautiful Royal Golden Yunnan. Loose leaf teas are kept in airtight tins and available to be looked at and sniffed. The staff seems friendly, knowledgeable, and interested in the subject of tea. The tea is served with timers and removable infusers, a crucial test as far as I'm concerned. The walls are lined with a huge assortment of tea pots, infusers, timers, and tea gadgets. From a handsome collection of Yixing pots, to the newest and coolest modern infusion pots, they honestly have one of the best selections of tea stuff I've ever seen.
They also have a very nice display of cookies and pastries and are currently serving a delicious selection of bubble teas. The ambiance is a little too modern for my taste, but unobtrusive and they feature a changing selection of local artists on the walls. The Tea Zone is an excellent shop either for the newcomer who wishes to learn about the world of tea, or the more experienced tea drinker who simply wants the tea of their choice to be prepared and served properly.

We last ate here about 2 years ago and much has changed it seems. The star of this tea room was and is, their scone - absolutely, utterly delicious. They also had a very talented pastry chef who made the tastiest, visually appealing creations. Their sandwiches were and are, their Achilles heel; tasty filling but dry on the outside. The tea we ordered advertises 4 tea sandwiches here is the crux of my irritation - 4 tea sandwiches in every other tea room I’ve visited means 4 different sandwiches. Here, their 4 sandwiches are actually 2 - half of a cucumber sandwich on white bread quartered and a dry, chicken salad on a stale, old mini croissant cut in half. The cucumbers were so thin, it was a wonder we could see any green. Then they offered us lemon curd but charged an additional .75 for one small serving. The deserts also have changed and not for the better. I’ve never been so shocked at such parsimony and unmitigated gall from a tea room, I’m amazed they are still in business.

I attended the Mother's Day Tea last May and have been back many times since. It was very memorable. They had a "tea theater" with two actresses performing some scenes from "The Importance of Being Earnest" while we dined on afternoon tea. What an experience. They are repeating this theater-type event this fall and I hope to attend one of those as well. The food was excellent and the scones are to die for. A very relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. True tea lovers must try this place.

The service can sometimes be lacking or slow but, that is the pace in this small coastal town so sit back and have a second pot of tea and enjoy yourself.

I LOVE La Tea Da for afternoon tea. It is our family tradition to visit La Tea Da in Tillamook on our spring break vacation. This was our 4th trip. I think they have the best afternoon tea food in Oregon. I have visited many tearooms and the selection, food quality, and presentation at La Tea Da is the best! The only thing I would like to see done differently is to have the tea leaves removed from the pot after the proper steeping time. Although if you request it, they can put your tea in a T-sac so you can remove it yourself. I also purchased a beautiful teapot from the gift shop to add to my collection. Thank you for having such a wonderful tearoom! I'll be back!

I have tried many tea rooms up and down the coast of Oregon, and NONE compare to the ambiance, presentation, and superb delectables offered at La Tea Da. I always feel I receive more than my money's worth, and always leave with the feeling that I can't wait till I can experience this again. It's like stepping into a Peaceful Realm of time and space.

We found this wonderful spot on a rainy day on our coastal vacation and loved it. My 7 year old and 4 year old enjoyed it because they had many kid friendly foods and dress up items for them to try on. The atmosphere was charming and they offered many items to purchase (we did of course!) Everyone was very friendly. We would go back if we were in Tillamook again. I highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Our trip to Oregon included a visit to Tillamook especially to take tea at La Tea Da. It was a delightful experience. The owners have done an excellent job of decorating. On a rainy afternoon it was filled with happy tea takers. Good food, pleasant staff, a gift shop filled with pretty china and interesting items. Thank you, ladies, for a very pleasant tea!

This is an amazing tea room - by far the best of all we have visited in Oregon. Food was amazing and so much of it for the very reasonable prices. Beautifully presented, fresh tasting and great selection. Friendly and helpful staff; clean and well decorated; great gift shop too.I would go back and highly recommend this gem.

This tea house is simply amazing. It is even more amazing if you knew the town it is located in, which seems to be stuck in the mid fifties. This tea house shine like the sun in a land of cheese and cows. I have been to many tea rooms up and down the West Coast and this is still one of my favorites. It has many selections that are not just high [sic] tea, and the high [sic] tea is to die for. The attention to detail is obvious all around this sweet spot. Do yourself a favor and come to the coast for tea. You won't be disappointed.

La Tea Da is simply the best tea house I have been to in Oregon, and there are many nice ones here. The proprietors have thought of everything, from pleasant surroundings to perfect dessert morsels. The tea food is simply the best I've had anywhere, with careful and thoughtful attention to taste and presentation. The attached gift shop is an enticement in itself and provides a lovely beginning or ending to teatime. Plan on at least an hour and a half to savor the tea and browse the shop.

This tearoom visit was well worth the drive!!! Everything about it was special from the ambiance to the service. Generous portions of delicious tea sandwiches, scones, and desserts were served on very pretty tiered servers. Though the place was very busy, we did not ever feel rushed. After taking tea, we spent a considerable amount of time browsing through the gift shop. We will be returning in the near future.

La Tea Da provides its customers with a relaxing, comfortable atmosphere where they can enjoy afternoon tea in a spacious, light-filled room on beautifully decorated tables with fresh flowers. The savories and sweets are made with quality ingredients from local farms, and each bite is a treat. The creative menu will entice you to come back again, and again for more. The menu is extensive and also includes coffee, hot chocolate, and lemonade for non-tea drinkers.

We were invited to lunch by another couple hoping that this shop would be as wonderful as one of our favorites which closed a few years ago. It not only met our expectations but surpassed them in so many ways. The menu may seemed limited, but is more than wonderful, tasty, and very filling. They have a wide variety of types and flavors of teas. The only "downside" is walking through the wonderfully dangerous gift shop to get to the tea room itself. We had a lovely, relaxing time and would highly recommend it to everyone.
