My second visit -- and just was good as the first! This delightful little shop is outstanding in all respects. And the Aromatique shop in the front is an added "plus." The food is creative, inspired, and just plain tasty. Nothing run-of-the-mill here.

I have been visiting this tea room on a regular basis since it opened. The owner, Shannon, is putting a great deal of effort into making this a retreat for the tea lover, continually experimenting with new menu ideas and bringing in new teas. The food is delicious and generous, and the hospitality most friendly. The loose leaf teas are interesting flavors and are always served piping hot. I look forward to every visit, as I watch this charming tea room evolve into a thriving business.

My best friend and I really enjoyed our afternoon tea. The service and atmosphere were excellent. Our teapots were reheated every few minutes and all of the food selections were really good. We did the $16.95 tea, which is the most expensive, but well worth it. We had so much food, we took some goodies home. This was, by far, the best afternoon tea we have ever had.

This is my favorite teahouse! I've been before, but it's even better now in the new location at street level and with the gift shop together with the teahouse rather than in a separate room. The tea, the food (the split pea soup and pumpkin scone were heavenly), the atmosphere, the gift shop ... all wonderfully cozy and inviting. The mural on the garden room wall is beautiful, and the dress up room for little girls makes me want to be a little girl again. The service was excellent. And the tea bar is a great addition! What a perfect place for a get away on a chilly, windy, rainy day! Or any day!

17 family members & friends went to The Windsor House of Tea for my grandniece's 6th birthday (her choice of where to spend her birthday). It was wonderful! The food & tea, selected in advance by my niece, was excellent. The adults had their table & the kids theirs. The staff took complete care of the kids & the owner, Susan, even read them a story. The staff was always right there to see to our needs but was never obtrusive. There was no feeling of being in a hurry. The gift shop was lots of fun, too. It was a memorable party & a memorable day!

Tea: Excellent.  Food: Excellent. Service: Excellent.  Appearance: Excellent.
Comments:
We spent an extremely pleasant couple of hours at The Tea Cosy. The tea selection isn't huge, but is larger than many tea rooms and more than adequate. So many tea rooms bring you the pot with the leaves still inside and no way to remove them. This is apparently the English style, but I don't like my tea to over steep. Jane at The Tea Cosy takes care of this. The tea was steeped to perfection and the leaves removed before being brought to the table. Although this is a fairly small establishment, they carry a nice selection of tea ware.  Perhaps the best part of our visit was the lovely conversation we had with Jane about, what else: tea!

This is a darling little place in old town Beaverton ... an old house with the tea room hidden upstairs. We hosted our daughters 8th birdthday party and her and her friends had a blast. The owner, Julie, is the most charming business owner we've ever met! Her bubbly personality and the way she made all the girls feel very "princess-like" was much appreciated! Julie played games with the girls and taught them all about etiquette. Julie uses Beaverton Bakery for her goodies and they were great! The tea was wonderful as well! You will not be disappointed!

My husband and I travelled from Portland to this tea room (we're doing a tour of all tea rooms in Oregon for a book I am writing), so it was a 2 hour journey. Unfortunately neither of us thought it was worth the trip. The word minimalist is apt here, including the decor and the food. Not the prices however. We shared the Salon tea as we were told that it would be enough for 2 - it wasn't. One each of 3 sweet items and 4 savoury - all tiny, plus 2 very small scones with barely enough jam and cream for 2. This cost $18.00. Bearing in mind this would better feed one person, it's very pricey compared to other tea rooms I have been to where you get more food for less money. Parking was metered and hard to find.

Savouré Tea is my favorite place to pamper myself and friends. The shop has a lovely upscale European feel and a friendly knowledgeable staff. The loose leaf sample jars help aid in the selection process, a delightful way to decide on your pot of tea or what type to take home. With a diverse selection of teas and a changing monthly menu, my taste buds are always pleased.

Savouré is a wonderful place to relax and chat with a friend and enjoy delicious teas and food. Not long ago they offered a class so that people could learn more about tea in general, the terms used to describe various teas, as well as how to prepare tea. It was very educational and a lot of fun. The décor is stunning yet comfortable, and the wait staff are very nice and knowledgeable. I highly recommend Savouré -- tea as it should be.

Savouré is an elegant, spacious tea room and shop reminiscent of a fine hotel in a large city. Tables, both high and low, are spread with fresh, crisp white cloths; the tea room is a friendly, bold red accented with dark, formal wood, tapestry upholstery and heavy floor-to-ceiling drapery, creating the perfect setting for French salon tea. The menu (and shop) features an extensive list of well-known as well as rare teas; Savouré specializes in Mariage Frères teas from France. Tea is prepared in full view of guests, timed by a knowledgeable and friendly staff. Tea treats are served from an elegant three-tiered tray complete with a silver tart server . . . how nice! The different full menu is in effect each month, with scones, sweets and children's selections also offered. The adjacent tea shop is elegantly merchandised with a selection of teapots and tea ware, accessories, and bulk tea sales. The library-style ladder to access the highest tea tins adds a particularly charming touch. A printed and mailed as well as on-line tea newsletter is offered.

We had a lovely time at "Lovejoys" in Florence. In fact, we journeyed 1.5 hours to have "High Tea" lunch. I would like to open a shop locally similar to this establishment. Well worth the time expended to experience this Tea Room. The food was delicious by the way.

I've tried "high [sic] tea" at other places and this was my least favorite. It was still good, but rather than doing courses, they bring everything out at one time and you serve yourself. Only once, in the hour  we were there, did they stop by and check on us. And that was to see if we needed boxes to take the food home. The tea did not stay hot for very long.

l was alone and found myself at the doors of Stratford House. l entered and couldnt have been made feel more welcome. A server seated me and proceeded to show me the menu. The menu was varied something for all tastes, and the tea selection was good. The soup a Hungarian mushroom was delicious and unique. The crustless quiche was also very tasty. l wish that the portions had been a little larger as the price was rather high for what was on my plate. Also l feel $3.50 was expensive for a small pot of tea for one. However, the whole ambiance and experience was enjoyable and although a little costly l would most deffinately return again and again.

I went to the Stratford House on a Saturday morning for brunch with 11 of my girlfriends. We were the only people there when we first got there. The tea was nice, and the food was good, but very small portions for what we paid and the group we had. The service was very poor considering we were the only ones there for a while. I was very impressed with the atmosphere and shop selections and decor. They
offer a large selection of "dress up" accessories and clothes, which was the best part for us. That alone will bring me back. Although I was highly disappointed to find out they are closed Sunday and Mondays, since Valentine's Day falls on a Monday and I wanted to take my sister and our daughters for brunch that day! They also automatically add the 20% gratuity for the tip, to the bill, which we did not feel our server deserved!

I went with a large group of women, and we could not believe how beautiful and delicious every item was! And the incredible array of different items- tiny sandwiches, quiches, precious little sweets, scones, chocolates- all garnished so prettily! And so MUCH food- you will not be hungry upon leaving, like some tea rooms. Call your friends and reserve- they only take parties of 12 or more! What a treat!!!! The hotel and grounds are spectacular, also.

Mrs. B's is a charming tearoom set in the back of a gift shop and it is always decorated in seasonal colors. It is a little oasis where the tastiest tea food and friendliest service are offered. Barbara loves what she does and it shows, always catering to her guests and making sure everything is just right. She makes the most divine chicken sandwich as well as some very interesting sandwiches which match the season! Afternoon tea includes sandwiches, savories, scones, and desserts for $11.95. She also has items available. I really recommend this tearoom if you are looking for a respite from the world.

This is an interesting tea and coffee room with Internet connections available, magazines for browsing, and even a chess table should you be so inclined. They also have a few books for sale. The décor is comfortable with lots of wood and plants and comfy overstuffed chairs. They carry teas from Rishi, Tao of Tea, Soma, and Leaves. I had a very good Jade Spring from Tao. Tea was served in one of those "tea for one" pot and cup combinations. The food was mostly pastries probably made elsewhere since they were wrapped in plastic. I had a cookie which was adequate, but not great. The café next door looks interesting, however, with lots of vegetarian offerings.

We visited this little tea room one afternoon a few years ago, needing a spot of tea in the afternoon. We both ordered cream tea and shared a serving of trifle. The hostess put the jam and cream on the scones before serving; she appeared rather annoyed when I asked for more cream. I really don't like strawberry jam, but it was already on the scone, so there wasn't much that could be done. When my partner scooted the chair back from the table between courses, the chair made a noise; the hostess literally came flying from out of the prep area, glaring at my partner. When she served the trifle, we noticed mold on the raspberries and pointed it out. Rather than be embarrassed or offer to replace it as would have been appropriate, she became very defensive. Needless to say, we paid the bill and left. I cannot recommend this establishment, as the entire experience was very odd and uncomfortable.
Would you go back? Sorry, no.

This is sort of an odd tearoom review, since I was unable to have tea in the actual Tea Lounge while I stayed at the Heathman Hotel. They have limited their tea service to weekend afternoons, and the Tea Lounge is a casual dining area the rest of the time (with live jazz, cocktails, and small plates in the evening). However, I did have tea several times in my room (at the Heathman Hotel) and think it is worth noting that this is a wonderful place for tea-lovers to stay. Chef's Choice electric kettles are in every room, along with teacups & saucers. The makings for their special blend of herbal tea are placed next to one's bed for a nighttime brew, and other looseleaf teas are available by request. Excellent tea snacks (artisan cheeses, toast, pastries, etc) are available via room service, 24 hours a day. If you really want some excitement, stay in a room ending with "03" -- they're supposedly haunted, although nothing woke me up after my cup of chamomile before bedtime! :)

The ambiance of the Heathman's tea room is very elegant and peaceful. The room has been restored to it's original opulance of the turn of the century. The fire is very cheery and IF there is music on the grand piano, divine. Being that this is the only high [sic] tea served in Portland that I can find, I was very disappointed in the small but quality selection of teas. My daughters are vegitarian and we were amazed that such a fine establishment offered such basic foods for them. The equivalent of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. We had even called ahead so that they could be prepared. The service was very slow. We sat with empty tea pots for quite a long time, which I feel is not what I came there for if one is paying very dearly for an experience. A bright spot in all of this was the scones! They were to die for and we are scone snobs! Yet they did not come with any clotted cream or lemon curd, only prepackaged jelly and marcapone. Over all I feel they have become lazy since they have a monopoly in the high [sic] tea market.
Would you go back? Maybe.

Portland Classical Chinese Garden, Portland, OR

Visited: August, 2001
Tea: Excellent.  Food: Fair.  Service: Excellent.  Appearance: Good.
Comments:
We finally took the long awaited trip down to the Portland, Oregon Classical Chinese Gardens. Touted in the pamphlet as being the largest authentic urban Suzhou-style Garden outside China, we've been peering in through the sculpted windows every time we happened to be downtown. Last year it looked a little barren, but the plants have matured now and we finally decided it was time to go.
Hidden in the center of the garden, like a jewel in the belly of the Buddha, is the Traditional Tea House where we stopped to explore the sampling of fine Chinese teas. Run by a local tea house named Tao of Tea which is known for their exceptional teas and attention to detail, we expected the perfect tea experience. Of course nothing is perfect and some of the very qualities brought by success detract from the final experience. The Garden itself was crammed with tourists, with all the bustling, crowds, and cameras that one would expect. Inside the Tea House I was hit by the contradictory sight of a serene and authentic interior packed full of kids and tourists. However given the realities of tourism, this can only be expected in such a venue.
Our menu, although short, was promising. Not a tea bag in the place. I chose one of my favorites, the Dragon Pearl Jasmine; my wife, a Frozen Summit Dong Ding; and our friend picked a Jade Spring Green. The tea server was polite and did his best to instruct the group on the use of the traditional Gai wan, obviously knowing a good deal regarding tea and the culture surrounding it. I appreciated the authenticity of the Gai Wan, but questioned the average tourist's ability to get a good cup of tea with it. By the time the tea had cooled enough to drink and our friend had figured out how to hold back the floating leaves with the lid of the cup, it was too bitter to drink. We found out later that the Gong Fu style of serving was only done upstairs which we would have preferred, but which was never offered to us.
However I and my wife both enjoyed our cups and the water was refilled promptly and with grace. The décor is nearly perfect, with a host of Yixing tea pots on display. I particularly liked the open display case of pots between the serving area and the kitchen. Peering into the bustle and steam through the wall of small secret shapes lent an air of mystery to the whole process.
The Tea House itself suffers from the same problem as the entire garden, which is, it is a victim of its own success. There were simply too many people there. I appreciate the traditional style of using the Gai Wan to serve tea and I love watching the unfettered agony of the leaves, but I suspect many people come away liking tea less rather than more due to the level of skill required to catch the tea at that perfect moment. We could not help but suspect that the Gai Wan was chosen partly because it is easier to serve and moves the tourists through faster.
All in all, they have all done a rather extraordinary job. The Gardens are really extraordinary with waterfalls built out of other-worldly stone, and the lotus standing up in the lake like fireworks on flamingo legs. The crush of people wandering about and blocking the view is no worse than I experienced many times at such places in Asia, and the tea house does admirably given the circumstances. They have a good and true product which they dispense with as much skill and sincerity as they can muster. I would however, suggest a visit on a weekday when the the masses might not be so apparent. Smaller crowds, a little more time, and perhaps a serving in the Gong fu style upstairs could well make a visit here a life changing experience. No lie.

This review is for Tao of Tea located at 2112 NW Hoyt Street. Great food, relaxing Asian atmosphere, and well-prepared tea. I think that the Tao of Tea in Portland is one of my favorite-ever tea rooms, in part because of the wonderful tea and food, but also because of the style and service. Each type of tea is served in the appropriate pot and/or cup (from gaiwan to yixing to tsetsubin), making every person's experience just a little different. The food is all vegetarian, and there are some incredible desserts. This will be a must-stop place for me whenever I visit Portland.

This is a small, intimate tea room setting. The décor has a very earthy, tribal feeling, which lends itself very nicely to to wide array of exotic teas. It is definitely not a "High Tea" [sic] type of place, although they do offer a good assortment of pastries/desserts including a favorite of mine, green tea ice cream. One particularly nice touch is that each tea is served according to where it is from. Typical English teas are served with china cups, while African teas come with gourd-like cups, etc. The Tao of Tea also offers a dinner menu which consists of mainly Eastern type food, an example of a dish is Dal (spicy lentils). Service can sometimes be a bit slow, and if it is friday or saturday evening, expect to wait awhile to get in.

Tea Chai Té offers seven varieties of house-blended chai, as well as bubble tea and many loose teas. They had over sixty types of loose-leaf tea the last time I visited. The shop is very small, and their food selection consists of only a few pastries. The shop is usually operated by only one or two servers at a time, so there is sometimes a wait to be served. Hot tea is served in a generous glass pot. Located on the top level of a well-maintained Victorian building, the shop has wonderful ambiance. People come and linger for hours, just sipping a pot of tea and reading a book, or using a laptop with the free wireless access point. It is often hard to find a seat when the shop is busy, particularly evenings and weekends. Tea Chai Té displays local artwork on a rotating basis, and they have teapots and accessories for sale as well.

The back room with the overstuffed chairs is relaxing and cozy. There is a wide choice of foods, quiche, salad, or panninis. They also serve bubble teas. The Tea Zone has a fantastic selection of teas from green teas to oolongs and herbals. A tea for anything that ails you. The staff was very knowledgeable of their teas and gave me (a novice) great suggestions. We had a great grilled sandwich and they have a good amount of pastries. The atmosphere could use a little more cozy for my taste (at least in the front sitting area) If you can get a seat in the back room it's quite cozy. It's definitely a repeater for me. The Tea Zone near downtown Portland, Oregon is an establishment that does nearly everything right. They have an extensive and informative tea menu that carries everything from Dragon Pearl Jasmine to a beautiful Royal Golden Yunnan. Loose leaf teas are kept in airtight tins and available to be looked at and sniffed. The staff seems friendly, knowledgeable, and interested in the subject of tea. The tea is served with timers and removable infusers, a crucial test as far as I'm concerned. The walls are lined with a huge assortment of tea pots, infusers, timers, and tea gadgets. From a handsome collection of Yixing pots, to the newest and coolest modern infusion pots, they honestly have one of the best selections of tea stuff I've ever seen.
They also have a very nice display of cookies and pastries and are currently serving a delicious selection of bubble teas. The ambiance is a little too modern for my taste, but unobtrusive and they feature a changing selection of local artists on the walls. The Tea Zone is an excellent shop either for the newcomer who wishes to learn about the world of tea, or the more experienced tea drinker who simply wants the tea of their choice to be prepared and served properly.

We were warned by a printed notice at each table that service would be slow. No exaggeration - it was snail-like. The scone looked and tasted like it came from a poor quality mix. The other items all  seemed to have been prepared from the same retail mixes that were offered on their retail shelves. Very much overpriced. Save your money and head north to Astoria and the Windsor Tea Room or south to Tillamook and La-Tea-Da.

Tea Rooms are places to go have good food, good tea or coffee and just relax. By far the best in Oregon, and possibly one of the best in the world. In of all places Seaside, Oregon! The Chef, Robert Erickson is actually one of the few Americans that has actually cooked in England and France and it shows in his food. A small but heavenly tea selection, and friendly service. We especially enjoyed the scones with Cream they are beyond delicious. Our tea included a daily soup, and mini- desserts as well all, wonderful. The atmosphere was enjoyable. The only thing we wished is there had not been a graduation party scheduled for the day of our visit as we would've enjoyed to spend more leisure time as we did have to make reservations.

We were delighted to find this tearoom (in one of our favorite towns) literally PACKED midday on a Friday. The owner, who was present and helped serve, as well as the servers, wore pretty aprons and hats as they brought out orders. The harsh overhead fluorescent lights were whimsically softened with colorful umbrellas (it does rain a bit here in western Oregon) placed over them. A scattering of antique furniture held Spode pieces and a row of shelves offered loose tea, tea accoutrements, (including silly socks), books, and sweets for sale. I had afternoon tea (called Silver Tea on the menu) and my husband Jeff had the cream scone and a pot of tea (offered separately). The sandwiches were a bit large and not all served in pairs; however, the food was good. The dessert offering was TO DIE FOR: five, yes, five selections: Bread Pudding with Butterscotch Raisin Sauce and Clotted Cream, Queen of Sheba Chocolate Cake with Espresso Buttercream, Pear Tart with Almond Filling, Triple Chocolate Mousse AND Black Gold Flourless Cake. Maybe a few too many (???) chocolate items, but what an offering, none the less! And the scones -- oh, the scones. These were the real thing, not the biscuit-y, gloppy, crumbly affair Americans think are scones. These were light, flaky, cut-out and egg-washed puffs of heaven, served with clotted cream and a choice of jams or curd. Pots of tea arrived clad in darling cozies; we enjoyed our meal on charming mixed china, seated in comfortable high-backed farm chairs.
Since I am in the throes of opening a tea room myself (The Tea Cosy, Bandon-by-the-Sea, Oregon), I am always visiting tearooms to enjoy the ambiance and style the owner presents. I also like to talk to "tea" people and the proprietress of the Oregon Tea Garden -- Michelle Thompson -- is an attentive and loving hostess, taking time out of her busy day sharing her knowledge, suppliers and ideas -- as well as, obviously, a love of people and tea. What a delight!

Lovely traditional Tea room upstairs above a very nice gift shop. Service was low-profile and discreet. Nice. Decor calm and subtle, with nive potted palms. Tea pots placed on candle warmers to keep well brewed tea hot. Not a tea bag in sight !!! Three cheers. A wide variety of loose tea is sold downstairs in the shop. Tea is stored properly in tins away from light. Scones were good, but very crumbly and challenging to manage gracefully. No plain scones offered, all have some sort of fruit in them. Too bad. Foods skillfully presented.

Since discovering the Tea Room at Ruthie B's, my friends and I have enjoyed several afternoon teas. It has been a chance for us grown-ups to play dress up. Ruthie has available hats and boas to wear for your tea party inside her antique shop or in the garden. A fun loving staff greets you at your table with a sprinkling of lavender and bubbles. The menu has a choice of high [sic] tea with courses including: soup, shortbread, compote, tea sandwiches, salad, and desserts. You can also choose from a menu of sandwiches, salads, and quiche. The tea selection is small, but is good quality, including black and herbal teas, I like the English Gold. Cost is around $20.00 for high [sic] tea, other items on menu are less. A wonderful place to roam around and spend your afternoon.

I LOVE La Tea Da for afternoon tea. It is our family tradition to visit La Tea Da in Tillamook on our spring break vacation. This was our 4th trip. I think they have the best afternoon tea food in Oregon. I have visited many tearooms and the selection, food quality, and presentation at La Tea Da is the best! The only thing I would like to see done differently is to have the tea leaves removed from the pot after the proper steeping time. Although if you request it, they can put your tea in a T-sac so you can remove it yourself. I also purchased a beautiful teapot from the gift shop to add to my collection. Thank you for having such a wonderful tearoom! I'll be back!

This is the best tea room in Oregon from my opinion. Everytime I go for tea it is the experience of a lifetime. I tell everyone I know about La Tea Da. Worth the drive from Portland.

I have tried many tea rooms up and down the coast of Oregon, and NONE compare to the ambiance, presentation, and superb delectables offered at La Tea Da. I always feel I receive more than my money's worth, and always leave with the feeling that I can't wait till I can experience this again. It's like stepping into a Peaceful Realm of time and space.
