Dreadful experience. What claimed on the menu to be "scones with jam and clotted cream" turned out to be bread rolls, with an unidentified fruit jam, higly sugared and artificial tasting and artificial cream! When I told the waitress that this was unacceptable, she replied that this was 'their version' of clotted cream! Hideous. Makes me long for real afternoon teas growing up in Wales & Yorkshire.
Would you go back? Sorry, no.

The tea was fantastic ... but the food a real let down!I could of had the same at home. For the price not much is served and nothing was something I would tell people that they just have to try ... they need to work on the food and then they would have a real treasure to offer!
Would you go back? Maybe.

Let me start with the things that were geat about the Queen of Cups. I had heard very very good things about this tea room and was excited to have booked an afternoon tea. They were expecting us when we arrived and there was samples of the wonderful loose leaf teas on our table. The tea and the service were both wonderful. Our server couldn't have been better.
Then out came the food. First, if you have visited their website, do not take the picture of afternoon tea to be what you will get - you get much less for two (it is pictured with two teacups, so we did think...) A two tiered tray and on the bottom was a medium sized range of sandwiches, crustless circles or rectangles. Lovely! The artichoke were quite good, the cucumber fine and the salmon unimpressive. All the bread appeared to be of the plastic bag variety. The sandwiches were quite warm and tasted as if they had sat out for a bit. There were also four very small scones that were more like north american biscuits. they were good but they were served with a whipped cream, not a clotted cream as advertised. It's hard to find clotted cream around here so I was really looking forward to that. The sandwiches and scones had to be spread out on the tray so as to take up all the space. The bottom tray also had some pineapple loaf that iss not really worth mentioning.
On the top level of the tray was the real disappointment  - two chocolate dipped strawberries that had seen better days and an assortment of store bought treats. There were "Two Bite Brownies" with some added icing, and mini lemon and mince tarts with a dollop of icing. I can buy these at the store for a fraction of the price, and adding icing to them does not make them particularly special or particularly good.
The worst part? The bill. With tax and tip (kindly added to the bill for me) it came to just shy of $50. CDN. A bit flabbergasting considering they only had to make part of the meal.
I felt it was sincerely the worst meal I had ever had for $50, especially when the establishment came so highly recommended. Store bought sweets are not OK and not what I was intending to pay for.
I have heard that the regular menu items are good, but frankly, they had their chance to impress us with what, for a tearoom, should be their specialty. I wouldn't recommend it based on this, and I won't be going back.  I should also add that all of the chairs at out table were wobbly enough (we tried them all) that we sat very quietly throughout the meal. Things may have been better at the other tables.
Would you go back? Sorry, no.

Mu Lan Tea House & Restaurant, Halifax, NS

Visited: June, 2008.  Meal: Just a cuppa. Type of tea: Iced tea. Preparation: In a take-out cup.
Tea: Poor.  Food: n/a. Service: Poor.  Appearance: Good.
Comments:
The staff were misleading about the quality of the product before we ordered, only choice was bubble tea or iced green tea. We had iced tea but it was only tepid water from the tap with 1 ice cube & minimal flavour. We took it with us and threw it away. We will never go back and will steer people away from there!
Would you go back? Sorry, no.

Mrs. MacGregor's is a lovely, old-country flavored tearoom with definite Scottish food and decor. Delicious soup and fantastic homemade desserts each day, to name a few. Look forward to returning soon

I found this little tea room as a result of the cat tea corner website and since i lived in a neighbouring community, decided to give it a try. I was joined by my daughter as well as my mother on this trip and we were more than delighted with our experience at this tea room! we had lunch and it was absolutely delicious. I would reccommend this place to any and all of my friends and relatives and cannot wait to return. I tend to travel a fair amount and this place has recently become my all time favorite for a bite and a nice cuppa.

My first visit to Mrs. MacGregor's was in the autumn of 2003. My fiancé and I were touring Nova Scotia, and had stopped for the evening in Pictou, a very picturesque little town. There being little open at the end of season there, we were thrilled to discover Mrs. MacGregor's. We ordered up an impromptu high [sic] tea. Impromptu, because it was à la carte. They do make reservations for larger parties/special tea events; all of it served in proper china servers. The teas we ordered were both by Numi; one was the Smoky Tarry (a Lapsang Souchong ), and Water Sprite, an oolong with ginger notes. They were surprising good for having been steeped from bags into little teapots. We wished for rather more loose tea than was available. The food was wonderfully Scottish, and found ourselves by its virtues and the ambiance of the tea room transported into a simpler time. Between the chicken soup -- as good as my own homemade -- the salad, and the Scots meat pie, made the "auld way" with the pastry "lid," we couldn't have found a better bang for our buck. The desserts were heavenly; but because we were so full  from the savory portion of our tea, we elected to stick with scones and oatcakes, and take some sweets away with us. The atmosphere of the place was a bit more shop-like, and less parlour-like, although strong efforts have been made to produce as homey a quality as possible. The table linens replete with what appeared to be handmade lace doilies, the tea cups and pots (each pattern unique!), and the décor overall were quite  charming, and everything was immaculate. The open view of the kitchen and the windows fronting the street might be a bit disconcerting for some, but I suspect in times gone by these shops functioned in much the same circumstances. Definitely a spot I would return to in spite of the teabags; and it was a spot that I feel local historical costume aficionados might enjoy especially as they visit all the other sights and shops that lovely Pictou has to offer. Who knows? You might get lucky like I did, and find a special tea cup in one of the antique shops hard by!

I can't remember about the tea as it was a warm day and we focused more on cool drinks, but this was a lovely calm stop on a travelling day - so much better than a highway stop! We had men and boys in our party and the atmosphere was relaxed enough to accomdate them. The desserts were delicious and it was fun to browse in the store afterwards.
Would you go back? Hope so, but we don't live nearby.
