Good.
Comments: The tea room is okay. Kind of tuck inside the back
of a tea shop in downtown Apex. The shop is cute but the
merchandises are sort of over-priced. The afternoon tea was
okay. They don't make the food inside the tea room. They have
outside vendor delivering the food to them. All they did was to
heat it up at the back (I could hear the ding sound coming from
behind). The tea was served in a tea pot but I have no idea if
they use tea bags or tea leaves. I don't think the place gives
me a relaxing feel. I also think the price ($18) a bit too much for
what we got.
Would you go back? Maybe.

Comments: I took my step mother and grandmother here

Comments: We ordered the French Breakfast tea off the menu
(after discussing it with the hostess) and when we received it,
it had a terrible, sweet quality to it. We politely asked if they had an
English Breakfast that we could have instead. They did,
indeed, but would have to charge us extra! The pastries and sandwiches were
nice, but not exceptional. The English Breakfast they charged us
for turned out to be lovely, but they never offered us more hot water,

Comments: I took my mother to the Pineapple Tea
Room this weekend for her birthday. From the moment
we walked in, we were greeted with warm and inviting
aromas of tea. There were over fifty teas to choose
from, everything from black to green to white ...
all served in a beautiful teapot with a cozy to keep warm.
We started out with chicken puff pastry, cucumber sandwiches and
cheddar quiche. All were exquisite. My personal favorite
was the chicken salad; not overloaded with mayonaisse
or pickles, very light. We next made our way to scones,
chocolate chip and cinnamon and shortbread. Served
with jam and double devonshire cream, these were simply delightful.
We ended with pumpkin cheesecake, chocolate truffles and lemon shortbread, all of which
exceeded our expectations. We had pumpkin creme tea
and apple cinnamon green tea, both of which were fascinating.
From the moment you walk in until the moment you walk out, you will be taken away with the
charm of this amazing little tea parlor.
Would you go back? Yes, can't wait!

Comments: What
a delightful tea room! It is located in downtown
Apex with lots of other cute shops close by. The
tea room is set up with a retail area in the front
and a small tea rom in the back with four tables
for two, and one larger table in the middle. Real
china was used along with cloth napkins. The food
was elegantly presented and tasted wonderful. The
tea was equally good. I even purchased some to
make at home which I was disappointed in - the tea
leaves were slightly ground instead of the whole
leaf I'm used to. I will not purchase tea from
them again, but will visit the tea room again if
given the chance!!!
Would you go back? Hope so, but we don't

favorite of mine to take my clients, especially out of town
visitors who want the true atmosphere of Asheville. I have had everything on
the menu and I have never had a bad meal and it continues to be
my first choice especially if I want it to be a memorable experience.
Also they have very nice little gifts and are very helpful in helping
decide the best choice for the occasion you are needing it for. I
highly recommend this cafe.

I've established a tradition of treating my

Labor Day weekend and had a very nice time. The
food was very good and we loved the fresh fruit
and cheese board. The raspberry honey mustard
sauce was wonderful. It seemed to be very busy
with two gift shops at each end of the tearoom.
The teacups were very plain compared to the other
severing pieces, but the food was excellent. The
waitperson was very friendly and answered all
needs. I loved the old homes this tearoom is
housed in and they have a wonderful selection of

Comments: My mom and I try to go to
Chelsea's at least once a summer for lunch.
This was our first time for afternoon tea, and
what a treat it was! We sat outside on the patio
and drank one pot before our tea tray arrived. One
tray was more than enough for the both of us. The
food was very tasty as was the tea. However, the
tea was served in mugs rather than teacups and we
had to ask for lemon and sugar (bags). The tea
selection was rather slim, but we thoroughly
enjoyed the apricot tea we ordered.

Plate, which contained three finger sandwiches, an
herb biscuit, two forkfuls of quiche, a scone with
Devonshire cream and jam, a slice of cake (lemon

Average. Appearance: Average.
Comments: I have had afternoon tea here twice, and both
times I've been disappointed. The service was inattentive, and
the servers lack basic tea knowledge. The manager didn't know
how to decaf the tea for a pregnant guest. [Please
note that the "decaf" method
referred to here -- steeping tea for 30-60
seconds, pouring off the infusion, then
re-steeping the same tea -- does NOT work. This is
an urban legend. If you cannot tolerate caffeine
for any reason, please do not rely on this method,
which removes no more than 10% of caffeine. The
only way to be sure that you are not consuming
caffeine is to avoid true tea (Camellia sinensis).
- Editor, TeaGuide] The atmosphere is
very contemporary, not dainty at all, and china is not even
used. Food was unusual, and flavors were too overpowering for
a proper afternoon tea. None of my guests cared for the food.
Not worth the steep price.

Comments: This was the third time that we've been to

selection is wonderful and they use all loose-leaf in
individual teapots. The open-faced sandwiches were
delicious (salmon, yellow tomato with basil, and thinly
sliced cucumber with cream cheese). The other items
were also extremely tasty, especially the mango jellied
squares and the chocolate dipped strawberries. And the
scones were also some of the best that I've ever had.
We enjoyed currant and raisin scones, as well as cheese and rosemary scones. Everything was
absolutely fantastic! I highly recommend this establishment to one and all.

Comments: We
visited La-Tea-Da's for a "Traditional
Tea" at $12.95 + 18% gratuity (their
literature states this is added for groups of six,
but it was added for our group of two). This tea
includes: cucumber sandwiches (cut out in the
shape of a teapot), butterscotch scones (WONDERFUL
-- these can be bought to carry out) with lemon
curd, fresh fruit, assortment of pastries. Also
available is a "High Tea" at $16.95,
which adds puff pastries filled with cheese and
seafood. The food is delicious. The setting is a
Victorian house. The entrance is not too appealing
(carry out counter, etc.), but the dining room is
attractive, and the tables are lovely. La-Tea-Da's
encourages "young lady parties," and we
applaud this idea. However, while we were having
tea, another table consisted of two young women
and two young girls (about 8). The girls did not
sit still, but wandered about and made noise the
entire time, rather distracting to the atmosphere.
Tea is served Tuesdays through Saturdays, from
3.30 to 5pm. Reservations are required, and a
credit card number must be given to hold a
reservation. While we thought the food was
excellent and attractively served, we felt less
than welcomed, both on the phone making the
reservation and when we arrived in person. We had
the sense that they prefer "parties"
than mere groups of two.

Comments: This is really just a place to have lunch that happens to serve tea in
teapots. Definitely not proper tea. The staff wore VERY casual
clothes. Shorts, tee shirts and flip flops. Water was served from clear plastic cups.
No half-n-half for my tea. Packets of sugar instead of sugar cubes. The tea was said to be loose leaf, but no leaves
were seen. my tea was not strong enough. No scones! If what they served were scones, they were not
traditional (very bisuity) and NO devonshire cream for them. The jam
was the kind you get from a big jar as I saw them spooning it out from behind the curtain
The cake moist and dense and very good. These folks could really use some major
brushing up on their knowledge of tea houses. It's the small things that make
a big difference I prefer a more formal tea, not an alice in wonderland
type. It is a rather rude awakening when you are all dressed for tea
to have your server walk in looking like she just came from a basketball game.

Vast array of delicious teas both cold and hot, (it is summer in the
South!) loose and bagged teas, hearty lunch menu, as well as out of
this world desserts and devine finger-foods to accompany tea. We
also sampled the coffee, which was French-press style and most
excellent. Did I mention the atmosphere? Victorian style decor with
beautiful woodwork. Ladies in hats everywhere!! Come dressed up or
casual.

Comments: The tea and the food at the Washington Duke Inn were wonderful. The tea
selection was large and varied. The food was plentiful and quite delicious. The
scones were the best that I’ve had in a tea-room. However, the experience was
marred by the location of our table in relation to the bar. Individuals at
the bar were loud and obnoxious and it was a constant distraction. Hopefully, next time our
table will be located where serenity reigns supreme, and we won’t be subject
to the bar noise.

Comments: I was attending a conference in Chapel Hill and
found this to be the closest place to have tea. The room is lovely;
it is the Inn's dining room. They serve loose tea in a teapot and by
the end of the pot it is very bitter. There needs to be a way to
remove the grounds after the tea is brewed. I was served tea
sandwiches, fruit, and sweets on a tiered tray. Then 45 minutes
later I was brought a tray of two different kinds of warm scones,
clotted cream, lemon curd, and jam. Most of the party at another
table had left before their scones because there was such a long
interval and they didn't even realize they were included. An
interesting way of serving tea! But, I would go back.

Comments: This is one of the best tea experiences I have
ever had. The Inn is very elegant and the service has been
consistently excellent. They serve a nice selection of Taylor's of
Harrogate loose-leaf teas. The food is both delicious and
delightfully dainty. The cranberry and chocolate chip scones were
some of the best scones I have ever had. The only minor flaws I can
find are the clumsy tea cosies they use and the lack of tongs for
the sugar cubes. I highly recommend the Washington and Duke Inn for
a memorable tea.

exuberant charm and personality of the hostess. The tea selection is pretty good and the teas are
served in teapots at the peak of perfection. The scones are small, but three are
provided to each customer. The flavor is absolutely wonderful. One nice aspect of this tearoom is that you
can select to keep the beautiful china tea cup and saucer for a very modest charge. All in all, this tearoom

good and unique. Small portions. We also had flavored ice tea that was, also, very good. We ordered 1 scone w/devon cream for $3.00
for dessert. The scone was just fair. The real problem was all related to service. My friend called ahead and booked reservations
for 4 people. This was a birthday lunch & I drove a very long distance to get there.
The person who answered phone did not tell her the policy of having to reserve their Pegg House Tea ahead,
which was, of course, what we came to a tea house for!! How can they stay in business when they don't tell you that! Therefore, we
had limited options. The waitress was not friendly or helpful. Of course, she wasn't an owner, so what did it matter to her? We
still had a great time as we believe in making the best out of anything.
Could have played lovely music & improved on service and would have been memorable.

improvment. Although I had made reservations, and got there on time, there was no
one out front to greet me, and after five minutes I popped my head in the kitchen to

fresh fruit. Everything was delicious although I did not try the bought cookies that

loose-leaf tea. The Tea Clipper ladies were incredibly helpful at the store and
later in an e-mail. Very detailed and very explicit. The service was amazing as there was one lady and she got a rush of
customers, but managed to keep her cool. A public-TV station was taping (sights around NC) and she gracefully helped him
while filling orders AND getting us our afternoon beverage. Their selection is wonderful, and the only reason I don't order online
is because we leave the store with a dozen pouches of selected teas, 50 and 100 and 200 grams (well, maybe not) but
enough to last me, about six months. It's three hours to the store so we can't do a weekly jaunt, but when at Morehead we

the green teas, fotune cookie, and spring flower, flavor is out of this world. I can't find tea anywhere else with the freshness and
fantastic flavor that these teas have. I live in the poconos, PA. I order from them all the time. They always include little samples of
teas and that is so nice, This is the best little tea shop I have found.
Would you go back? Hope so, but we don't live nearby.

Comments: A solid winner on all counts! This gem of a tea shop offers quiet ambience, a dizzying array of
FRESH leaf teas (no teeny tiny broken orange pekoe!), exquisite service and the only truly PERFECT scones I

Comments: This tea shop is my favorite! I visit every chance I get (which is often) and also take my
visitors there (the ladies of course) for lunch. My favorite lunch is the Spinach Quiche. It comes with a fresh baby

Comments: As owners of a tea room, we enjoy visiting other
shops. Recently while on vacation, we enjoyed an excellent afternoon tea
at the Tea Clipper. We were impressed by our warm welcome as Hannah led
us to a lovely table at the window. The tea selections were outstanding
and came perfectly prepared. The tiered tray was filled with a lovely
selection of scones, sandwiches and sweets. It was obvious to us that
they took their teas very seriously. After finishing we spoke with
Elaine, the owner, and told her we would return on our next visit to the
area. We highly recommend this tea room.

Carolina. I have visited twice, and on both occasions I enjoyed it with
my company immensely. The food, excellent in presentation and
taste, was even better the second time than the first and no improvement
was really needed. Elaine Gross, the owner, is passionate and
knowledgeable about tea, and could be a mentor for me any day. She was
so willing to share her experience and expertise with me, answered all

Comments: The Tea Clipper was a fabulous experience for both me
and my two seven-year old daughters. We stayed for an hour and a half
and enjoyed every minute of it! Four "teas of the day" were
brought to our table to see, touch, smell, and choose from. We chose a
pear green that was so delicious we brought some home. We also had a
second pot of Victorian Earl Grey because we are Earl Grey lovers. The
food was delicious but the best part was the service. The ladies there
acted as if they were excited that we were "having tea with
them." They were very knowledgeable about tea (especially the
owner) and encouraged us to try something new. We will definitely be
going there again, even though we have to drive two hours.

Comments: I visited The Tea Clipper two days in a row, it was
so wonderful. Day one I was greeted by the owner, Elaine, and her
daughter Emily, who were very knowledgeable and made me comfortable with
the tea experience to come. Being an Earl Grey lover she recommended a
Victorian Earl Grey which is Earl Grey with added roses and lavender,
absolutely heavenly. With the pot of tea I enjoyed both by sight and
taste a toasted lemon pound cake with raspberry curd sauce and of course
a dollop of cream and raspberries. The second day I returned with my
sister for a late luncheon. My luncheon consisted of delightful assorted
tea sandwiches and desserts, and of course the same Victorian Earl Grey.
My sister enjoyed an herbal infusion that surprisingly tasted more like
a traditional tea. Her luncheon was quiche and a salad, both excellent.
Everything about the tea room is perfect, from the décor to the tea
presentation. The shelves are lined with rich black canisters of loose
teas, all the tea accouterments one desires, and many lovely gifts. It
is located in the same building as the local museum which makes it an
extra special visit. This is certainly worth the journey.

Comments: The pleasure of afternoon tea should not only be one that soothes the soul,
but also one that refreshes the mind and body. This quaint little bed &
breakfast complete satisfies these requirements. The setting was the front porch of a "turn-of-the-century"
home located on a side street in the downtown area of Pittsboro, NC. The weather was perfect for an outside
tea, as it was just a wee bit cool with just the slightest of breezes blowing.
Our table was set with a crisp white linen tableclothe, linen and lace napkins, and
English porcelin. The tea selection was just a little small, but with all the traditional teas
included. The tea was prepared and served in individual teapots with
cosies, without the loose-leaf or tea bag left inside. It was brewed for precisely the
correct time to exhibit its wonder flavor. There was no worry about the tea
becoming stronger or bitter as we sat there. The food was delicious! Four different types of sandwiches,
plenty of scones, and the deserts were absolutely magnificent! Chocolate brownies, whole strawberries,
and a blueberry-cheesecake tort that was out of this world! All in all this tea was one of the best that I have
ever experienced! I will definitely return and I highly recommend The Rosemary House to all!

Comments: I enjoyed afternoon tea with a friend on a beautiful day. Rosemary House
has a large, lovely front porch. The tea selection was nice, and the tea was
prepared in individual pots with tea cozies. The menu is strictly vegetarian. The
place setting was pretty, and everything was very clean and dainty. The food was
average. Scones were very tiny and overdone. The sandwiches were inventive. The
dessert tier needs a few more items. Overall, I think the best part of the
experience here was the pretty front porch setting.

Meal: Lunch. Type of tea: Teabags. Served: In a teapot.
Tea: Fair. Food: Poor. Service: Good. Appearance: Good.
Comments: About an hour drive from Wilmington and a lovely
ferry ride my friend and I arrived in Southport and found the
setting and house very cute. The gift shop is nice and the tea room,
though very small, is comfortable. There are five glass top tables
for four with beautiful linens underneath, and lovely china plates,
cups, and saucers, all different but attractive, and a crisp vintage
linen white napkin and silver completed the presentation. So far so
good!
Serving "light fare" is the understatement of the year
however! Unfortunately we went for a light lunch and ended up having
to go to another place after spending $19.66 (including tip) here.
Laid in front of us were two china plates topped with doilies with
next to nothing on it. I had to request a different iced tea as the
"mint julep" iced tea's pure mint taste was not palatable,
I didn't want to "send it back," I offered to pay for it,
but explained nicely I was unable to drink it (they didn't charge me
thankfully). The replacement iced tea was cloudy and slightly
bitter. My friend ordered a single pot of Earl Grey and it came to
the table with the tea leaves and teabag still in it, which we found
objectionable as there was no slop bowl or good place to remove it
to, and so it stayed and the tea got stronger. Offered were a plate
of "assorted tea sandwiches, tea breads, and sweets" for
$9, and another plate "assorted tea sandwiches and tea
bread" for $6. On the bottom of the menu was a $2 charge for
"plate sharing" so I inquired if the $9 plate had enough
on it to be shared. I received a resounding "NO", so we
each ordered the $6 plate.
There is nothing nice I can say about the "food," my
friend and I couldn't look at each other when the plates arrived
until we got over the shock of it. I've been to many teas and tea
rooms over the years, but have never ever even come close to what I
can only describe as a "rip off." Being served literally
six bites of tasteless bread substances, garnished with two of the
tiniest grapes, it rendered each of us speechless. The filling of
the ONE tea sandwich was a slight dollop spread paper thin with
peanut butter! A gingerbread "muffin" a Barbie doll could
hold in her hand had the best taste, but I am not exaggerating about
the size.
It appeared that maybe the "deal of the day" was the two
scones served with lemon curd and jam for $4, but we'll never go
back to find out. In good conscience if I were the tea room owner I
could not sleep at night.

so that you can remove the leaves from the pot at exactly the right moment. Food is scrumptious and plentiful from the
Please-stop-me-from-licking-the-bowl seafood bisque to the sweets. OK, the blueberry scone is shortbread-like, sweet and
served with sweetened cream which may make purists frown. I enjoyed it too

Comments: I did not realize the Wilmington Tea Room had
been taken over by a new owner until my visit last week. Expect wonderful changes! My mother and I were greeted
by a very friendly staff and seated, even without a reservation (previously a requirement). The food was
excellent, everything fresh and delicious. The new owner made time to stop and ask us how we were doing, even
though we could tell she was swamped. New atmosphere - wonderful experience! I had been wary in the past, but I'll
be back often.

Comments: We visited this tea room for lunch. It is located on the
waterfront of Wilmington, in an old building. It was quaint, clean,
charming, the iced tea was very good, refreshing; and the array of goodies on our tray for lunch, was absolutely delicious! We couldn't
eat all of them, so we took them back to our hotel room for a snack later,
ummm!

Comments: We were greeted by a sweet girl (wearing
flip flops..ugh!) who also was our server. Although the interior of this tearoom was charming, it was a beautiful
Spring day and we asked to be seated outside, overlooking the water.
The awning was not unfurled and we (the guests!) had to move our table to the sparce
shade under the eave of the building. The fountain was not operating. No flowers or centerpiece of any kind on
the table. They made no effort to match the outside area to the charm of the inside. Another table of guests
(also stuffed under the eave) asked them to crank open the awning, which after 10 minutes they did, and
cranked it only 6"! Why? The food was very good, although small portions. We had to ask twice for
silverware and lemon slices. After asking for napkins, we received 2
tiny squares. It was a week-day, with a moderate crowd, so I don't understand the lack of
attention to even the most basic details. All-in-all, a charming place that needs much better management!

Comments: The food was excellent tasting, fresh, and
thought it didn't appear bountiful it was more than enough to fill my
Fiancee and I up with some to spare. Prices are reasonable, and the selection of teas is
pretty good. After leaving I was inspired to make my own Scones, Lemon Curd, and Devonshire Cream.

Comments: I have visited the Wilmington Tea Room 3
times in the past year. Each time was a beautiful experience. I entertained my Sister and other family
members there for her 73rd Birthday. We all wore hats and nice dresses. What
fun! Then I returned with my two granddaughters (ages 5 and 8). They were dressed
in fancy little dresses and learned how to drink tea properly, etc. The staff was so helpful and patient in
showing the girls the proper way to enjoy a real tea party! Every young lady should experience a tea room.
My granddaughters want to return now for their individual birthdays.
And we shall!!Wonderful Place!

Comments: Have visited twice, very nice. Would prefer
not to have the piano, or at least volume should be turned down--distracting. Seafood bisque is very good.
Nice place to get away for a quiet time and cup of tea.

Comments: My mother in law and I are delighted to have a tea house in historic
downtown Wilmington. Dana the "Tea Mistress" made us feel right at home and
although busy took the time to "chat" with us. The food was wonderful, alot of thought
went into the menu.. The tea house was very tastefully decorated and an added
delight is the baby grand player piano which added just the right musical atomsphere
for our dining pleasure. We will most definately be regulars here. All he best to Dana
and her staff.

Comments: I was meeting a friend for afternoon tea, I arrived early and was greeted
by 2 women in flip plops/open sandles...can they do that in the food service
industry? Anyway, my friend arrived and we were seated in the back of the tea room
(we were the ONLY 2 customers in the place!) and we asked to be seated at another
table...a bit closer to the water and away from where the staff was working by the
kitchen. Our request was refused. We were told the other table (for two) was
reserved. So we stayed put. When the other couple arrived, they did not like the
location, so they were re-located! It was strange that we could not relocate in an
EMPTY room. This was an hour before closing, and they did not have any other
reservations OR customers the whole time we were there. Anyway,
m friend had to ask for another tea cup because the tea stains had not been cleaned
out of her cup. This can and SHOULD be done with a mild clorox & soap solution each
time the cups are washed...for home and commercial use. The tea we ordered arrived and we were left
to time and strain our own tea. The sandwiches were good. We had to ask for forks
which were needed for the fruit. The blueberry scone was very tiny and a bit dry.
There was piano music playing wich sounded like someone was practicing on it...it
was disjointed, nd not enjoyable at all. This is the only Tea Room in Wilmington.
However I doubt that I will return...I'll drive 30 miles to a great one in Wallace...which
is still open, despite the rumor to the contrary.

Comments: The owner really knows about tea. He's
really nice and very helpful. We usually buy tea leaves to make tea at home. The store carries more kinds of
tea than I ever knew existed and sells a variety of packaged snacks and biscuits to compliment your tea.
The owner also occasionally teaches tea classes, which are really worth checking into, if you are a tea
lover. I highly recommend this shop.
