Devonshire
Adobe Inn, Albuquerque, NM
Visited: May, 2007. Reviewed: May, 2007
Meal: Private party. Type of tea: Loose leaf
and teabags. Served: In a teapot.
Tea: --. Food: --.
Service: Poor. Appearance: Good.
Comments: I had heard rave reviews of the Devonshire
Adobe Inn's tea services under the previous management of Englander Jay - so I contacted the new
proprietor Nick to inquire about a private party. Unfortunately the enthusiasm and warmth of the
previous owner has not carried over - and I received a
sarcastic and rude reply to my inquiry about a low tea. I
was told to contact St. James instead, that they served
"much less" food for a higher price, if that was what I
was looking for - or Nick offered to reduce the menu and
charge me more if that was what I wanted. Flabbergasted, I declined. I will be booking my
party at St. James, needless to say! Beware, new owner, new
attitude!
Would you go back? Sorry, no.

Comments: Englander Jay puts her heart
and soul into this High [sic] Tea event. This is by far
the best place I have found in Albuquerque for
high [sic] tea. The food (scones, tea sandwiches,
dessert, etc.) and hospitality are equally
impressive. This is definitely my favorite place
to unwind.

The
St. James Tearoom, Albuquerque, NM
Visited:
July, 2007. Meal: Afternoon tea. Type of tea:
Loose leaf. Served: In a teapot.
Tea: Excellent. Food: Excellent.
Service: Excellent. Appearance: Excellent.
Comments: TOO EXPENSIVE at $25 per person. Chef
could be paid less so that more middle class people
could go to this tea room. This is a RICH people's
tearoom. Suggestion has been made to owners but they
won't go for an ala carte or "small tea" which would
accommodate middle class people.
Would you go back? Sorry, no.

Comments: My husband and I have visited the St.
James for as long as it has been in business, we have
as yet to meet it's equal in all of our travels and feel
lucky to have it in our hometown, MAKE reservations
before you visit the Duke city, don't miss this one.

Comments: I visited the tearoom with my husband. The
food was absolutely fabulous. The sweets, savories and
scones are the best I have ever tasted. The tea and
service were wonderful. The atmosphere is English
Victorian. We loved it and cannot wait to return. We
plan to visit at least once each month. I highly recommend the St. James Tearoom.

Comments: My best friend and I were
visiting Albuquerque for business and we were
pleasantly surprised to be able to enjoy a supper
tea at St. James. We've visited many tea rooms and
this is our favorite. The food is wonderful,
service excellent and the tea is the best. A must
try is Picasso's Soiree. Be sure to make this a
priority when you are in Albuquerque!!

Comments: This was my first time to a tea
room and it was grand. We had approximately
seventeen of us ladies there from church to reveal
our secret sisters after summer. The establishment
had no trouble seating us within the same room.
Some settings were for two or four, and a gorgeous
dining table for others. There were screens and
china cabinets and small tables with Victorian
furniture. It was absolutely beautiful. The food
was heavenly and plentiful. We were served three
teas in pots one at a time and refills on the ones
we liked. I left feeling beautiful. After two
years I still get my tea there and now live in
Tucson, Arizona. I recommend the Picasso and
caramel creme. I now serve myself tea with all the
trimmings almost daily. Have fun. A must see!

Comments: The St. James Tea Room was my
first experience and it has left me wanting more.
This tea room offers semi-private dining areas
that are decorated with period pieces and sweet
trinkets. The food arrived in a timely manner with
the most delicious look and taste. We were unable
to finish our afternoon tea treats because of our
enjoyable conversation. The attendant politely
boxed everything up for us with an extra surprise.
I attended the tea room with my aunt. We had the
most enjoyable time discussing everything under
the sun. I will always cherish those memories and
I encourage everyone to experience the St. James
Tea Room.
