Lisa (TeaHaus owner) only does the afternoon tea once a month on the 3rd Sunday but she should do it everyday. I was so amazed that the tea and the food was both some of the best I have ever had! The event was actually done at the cake store next to TeaHaus because it is closed on Sundays and has a full kitchen. They turned it into a sweet place to enjoy a couple of hours with friends. I will go every month!

All the food was already on the table when we arrived and we had to servie ourselves while the hostess talked. She rambled and it was not very interesting and the food wasn't either. We had two types of tea, both green and the second one was just awful. None of my party could drink it. At least the gardens were beautiful..

The scones are unique and some of the best I have ever had. The Holiday Tea and Market Spice teas are excellent and can be purchased in bulk to go. If you are there when the crab cakes are on the menu, they are a must try.

We visited the tea house for lunch to celebrate my daughter's kindergarten graduation. Unfortunatley, the staff was unprepared for us at 11am. The decor was lovely but a bit cluttered. Our food - vegetable/bean soup was bland and looked unappetizing and came to the table cold. The spinach salad was plain and very tiny. The price was $11 for this meal - too much for what took a very long time to arrive. We've been to a few tea houses and were really excited to celebrate - we will not come again!

Just about everything was wonderful over all. We enjoyed it and will definately go back. I would have liked the finger sandwiches and desserts to be a bit fancier and would have paid more for that. My husband and I took my Mother to the Townsend Hotel for her 60th birthday. I have been there before and thought it was a good choice however, was very disappointed. I could never get a call back from reservations, I thought being seated by the fireplace would have been a little more private, the food was not that tasty, and the price was ridiculous for what you were offered. I will try another tea room next time.

Overall I enjoyed the Afternoon Tea. Tables, chairs, sofas, etc. were set up in the portion of the lobby near the piano. Which was being played for our entertainment, adding to the relaxing atmosphere of the tea. We arrived at 2pm and were the only people there for the tea for about an hour. Maybe that accounts for why our service was excellent! We went for the deluxe tea: tea sandwiches (4 or 5 types), 1 mini quiche, 1 mini spinache pie, 1 cranberry/orange/raisin scone w/clotted cream, 4 mini deserts and a slice of bavarian cream torte. The deluxe tea was $25, and worth it. My only disappointment was that my 1st 2 cups of tea either did not have enough tea leaves or had not been allowed to steep long enough.
Would you go back? Maybe.

I went to afternoon tea at the Townsend for my bridesmaids' luncheon and was very unhappy. It makes me sad to have to write this review because I know the owner of the hotel and really like them a lot. It was of course clean and a pretty hotel but the ambiance for tea time was terrible. It was noisy and over priced for what you get. The tea and food were nothing to write home about and the service was neither very warm nor friendly. The servers seemed rushed. The atmosphere is not at all comforting, relaxing, or soothing. We couldn't hear ourselves think, the noise was very distracting.

My husband and I went to the Townsend to celebrate our 30th anniversary. Having been to the Ritz in Dearborn for tea several times (which is wonderful, by the way), as well as many others, we thought we'd give the Townsend a try. I can't describe our disappointment! We were seated in a hallway, then waited for 15 minutes before the waiter even came to the table to greet us. Once we finally ordered our tea it was another 15 minutes before the waiter brought it, poured us each a cup, then took off with the pot. Our sandwiches and sweets were served after another long wait, but it was almost impossible to get our tea refilled. Instead of the relaxing experience afternoon tea is supposed to be, it turned out to be a frustrating and disappointing outing. We won't go back.

My elderly mother chose the Townsend Hotel to celebrate a milestone birthday as we previously had enjoyed afternoon teas there and flew over for the occasion. The hotel and waitstaff were well aware of this. I would like to note, the hotel was not very busy that afternoon and I do know a little about what I speak, as I have had the privilege of enjoying afternoon tea all over the world.
After being seated, we waited almost twenty minutes before we were greeted by a sullen waitstaff and brought our tea and first course. At one point, we sat for almost an hour with no tea or water and no courses being served.  I am well aware that afternoon tea is an event not to be rushed, but to be savored, but this was outrageous. Service is expected to be friendly, attentive, and timely. We had none of that. Dirty dishes were not cleared from the table and the food was not up to standards.
The server brought out our bill and I explained that we had not even been served our sandwich course and needed more tea and water. I paid the bill immediately so we would not have to wait for another ridiculously long period of time for that. In the leather portfolio, I did not leave a tip. She returned with the sandwiches and in a very loud voice announced, "I want you to realize that gratuity is not included in the price of the special tea!" My tip WAS reflective of the service.
Needless to say, the damage for this special occasion was irreparable.  This birthday will never come again for my mother.  The whole thing was very upsetting, as well as infuriating.  I am writing a letter to the managing director of the hotel and will not return.

I have been to the Townsend Hotel for tea twice. Afternoon tea is so popular that they have a lovely tea directress named Pauline Palazzolo. Reservations are a must and the holiday teas must be booked far in advance.
The hotel is lovely and there is always a pianist during teatime. The food is wonderful: tiny tea sandwiches, scones, quiches, and mini pastries. All served by darling, darling girls. There are pink linens on the table with fresh flowers. The china is wonderful, all Herman Dodge. They really do a lovely job. Always a wonderful afternoon.

The atmosphere was excellent! It is the Ritz. However, our china teapot was cracked and had to be replaced. The sugar holder was missing its lid and when I looked around at other tables there appeared to be bits and peices of the china sets missing from most tables. Our loose leaf teas steeped in not so hot, flat water. As a result the teas did not have the full flavor they should have had. There were only 2 servers and so they were a bit harried. Overall the experience was only OK, being the Ritz I expected excellence.

I took my mother for her birthday and we had a glorious time. They allowed me to drop my mother's gift off and then presented it to her when I gave them the cue. The food was tasty, the Earl Grey tea was my favorite, and the best clotted cream I've ever had. Our server was most gracious and attentive. To top our dining experience, my mother was presented with truffles on a platter with the words Happy Birthday spelled out in chocolate. You have not done tea until you've done it at the Ritz.

The Ritz Carlton has lovely holiday teas in December. They must be booked well in advance. The room is lovely and the service is unsurpassed. The pianist is world-class and the Christmas music was wonderful.
The day I went, the tea and the food really weren't that good. Some things that should have arrived warm were cold.
The thing that I did not like was that, at the holiday tea, they offer an ornament, which is part of a new business venture of the pianist. One is put in an awkward position if one does not want to purchase the ornament. The ornament adds $10 to the price of the $25 tea, which makes a total of $35. IMO, one feels pressured to buy the ornament and it takes away from the whole ambiance of the tea.

An excellent selection of teas is available. The food is pleasing both to the eye and to taste. Many times an additional little treat can be obtained if asked for. The service is top-notch from the napkin placed on the lap to keeping your cup filled. Tea can be served with or without a glass of champagne. At Christmas they have a lovely holiday tea. There is a pianist playing throughout tea time. It's a very enjoyable experience.

Went with a group of ladies to experience a traditional English tea. The shop is located in a very old building that was once a mill. There are wonderful displays of tea cups, tea pots, and all manner of tea accessories which are for sale, as well as various antiques. The tea room area is small with pretty stained glass windows. We especially loved the eclectic mix of dishes and that each person had their own unique tea pot. A variety of ladies' hats are available as well to wear or not as you choose. Food was tasty and plentiful but it took a long time to get our food. We were a big group so that may be why it took so long. I am looking forward to a return visit.

We went for the combination Tea and Tour of the Ford house. The tour started at 3pm and was about 2 hours in duration with tea afterwards. There were only 2 choices of teas: Earl Grey and Apple Cranberry. Cafe style seating in a bright greenhouse like room. The food was good but not excellent. There were about 10 courses starting with scones and muffin of course and ending with approx. 3-5 dessert courses. Service was excellent. Definately a relaxing afternoon. These tea and tour combinations do not appear to be offered regularly.

My friend and I had a wonderful tea experience celebrating Dr. Kellogg's 150th birthday and learning about a woman's life in the 1800's. We enjoyed both Jasmine and Orange Pekoe teas, with a delightful menu of sweets and savories, including a dish from an 1800's cookbook recipe. The food was delicious, along with the tea, service and program were both excellent, which I can always count on at the Kellogg Manor House. I always take the tour afterward and learn something new each time. I can't wait to bring my cousins and aunts in May to the Girlfriends "Flapper" Tea and Fashion Show. Thanks again for a delightful tea experience!

My cousin & two great Aunts attended their Nutcracker Tea & enjoyed a simply delightful event. The beautiful Manor house overlooking Gull Lake decorated for Christmas, elegant food courses, delicious tea, outstanding service, relaxing live musical entertainment, guided tour - what more could you want? I've been a patron for many years & still can't get enough. My guests had never experienced anything like it & can't wait to return. Every theme tea is unique & I've never had the same menu twice! I've enjoyed the Little House in the Big Woods Tea, their Tin Lizzie and Franklin teas riding in vintage automobiles from the Gilmore Car Museum, Russian, Dutch, Jane Austen & Orient Express teas, strolling the beautiful gardens and winding staircase down to the lake ... Thank you to Director Ann Spezia & all the volunteers & staff who truly put the E in Excellence. I'm looking forward to all the wonderful themes planned for 2010 & taking tea there again this year.

I visited the Holly Hotel Tea Room three years ago with a group of friends who all left feeling disappointed. I wanted to give the place a second chance, but it was even worse this time! The food served was unbelievably bad; one example is that neither the clotted cream nor the chocolate mousse had experienced refrigeration, but were served lukewarm on a warm day! Other foods served were equally inedible, which may have explained why there were only two other tables occupied that afternoon. Afterwards we saw another tea house nearby that was filled with people, and we'll go there next time. I have been to the Ritz Carlton High [sic] Tea and thought it was excellent in every way. I have also been to the Holly Hotel for dinner and was equally disappointed and have not returned since.

We were given metal pitchers with lukewarm water. We were told this was a non-smoking  establishment. It is not. No bathrooms on the first floor and no elevator! My 84 year old handicapped mother had to be taken across the street to use a bathroom. Some of the tea cups were chipped and some were crackled. The glasses were dirty. No lemon - no honey - it was a very bad experience.

My friend and I were extremely pleased with the entire tea. Although some people prefer only loose tea when they go to a tea house, we found they had a good selection of teabags and we both found ones we've never had before and enjoyed so much that we asked were to buy it. We chose the Queen's tea which offered a lunch plate instead of just the sandwiches. The tea started with a delicious muffin,  scone with cream, and brandied cherries. The lunch we chose was broiled white fish with baby scallops, asparagus and carrots and a rice pilaf. The desserts were so good they were the perfect ending to a delicious meal. Service was excellecnt. Even though the tea was made in your cup, they were always sure that you're water was always hot. We had an enjoyable and leisurely tea and are planning to make it a seasonal outing just to treat ourselves.

I went there with my red hat chapter and was terribly disappointed and disgusted! First, we asked if they had handicap accessible restrooms and no smoking since we have asthmatic and handicap ladies. They smoked and the restroom was 2 flights of stairs to reach! 1 of our ladies had to leave because of an asthma attack. They gave my aunt a soup spoon for her tea, they had tea bags and put on the table tea pots with hot water. We had to serve ourselves! Worst we had to wait 45 minutes to get the first course. They portions were so small. They had a poor attitude, the  hotel was very run down looking on the outside and not much better inside. We also asked for special arrangments for 2 of our ladies 1 is diabetic and 1 is vegatarian. They forgot. I was totally disgusted!

While the hotel is beautiful, I was sorely disappointed at the tea bags. When I pay to have 'tea', I expect good quality loose tea prepared correctly.

Having been to the hotel's afternoon tea several times and being extremely pleased with it, we chose to have our wedding reception there on November 27, 2004. The hotel was already decorated for the holidays so we had minimal decorating to do, basically just centerpieces. The food was excellent! The first course, the scones and muffins, is served with Devonshire cream and jam. The second course consisted of three different savories. We chose savories that we had had on previous visits so we already knew how wonderful they would taste. We elected to forgo the sweet course, which is usually three different pastries, and just served our wedding cake, which was prepared by the chef at the hotel. We had top-notch service from every single employee of the hotel that we came into contact with, from the special events coordinator down  to the busboys. I cannot begin to tell you what a fantastic experience it was! We've still got guests telling us how unique and elegant our afternoon tea reception was! And the best part is the price. Even for something like a wedding reception you only pay $12 per person! And whenever you have a group of 20 or more, they give you a private room at no additional cost! Afternoon tea is now served every day except Sundays from 2-5 PM. If you ever get a chance to visit The Historic Holly Hotel, don't pass it up!

This hotel is beautiful. The food is very good, but I see why they only charge twelve dollars. Portions are very small You make your own tea with tea bags in a cup and you can find these teas in any grocery store. It was fun to go once -- will we go back no. I would much rather pay more money and leave a tea being at least somewhat full. All us ladies felt the same way.

The hotel, which has been restored to Victorian splendor, was beautifully decorated for Christmas. My daughter and I were given the choice of the main dining room or the train car. We chose the train car which turned out to be a windowless restored car with 6 booths made from actual bench seats comfortably re-stuffed and re-covered and spacious enough for 2 people on each side. We were presented with a box of assorted tea bags and given a china pot of hot water and china cups with which to prepare our tea. There were three separate courses of plates containing three selections of treats on each plate. The first course was a cinnamon muffin, apricot scone, clotted cream and jam. The second course was savory: spiced ham crostini, mushroom quiche and salmon tart. The third course was sweet: chocolate-dipped hazelnut meringue, tiny cream tart and sweet raisin cake. The food was unanimously excellent and we were comfortably full at the end of the meal. The waitress was very attentive and explained each course as she served it. We were readily given a fresh pot of hot water and more tea bags. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed but not stuffy. At $12 per person, this tea is incredibly reasonable. I highly recommend the tea and afterwards, a stroll around the quaint downtown area. I don't know if it's possible to reserve just the train car, but it would make a great place for a bridal shower or special occasion birthday party.

I can't say enough good things about the Four Seasons Tea Room. They have a wonderful selection of teas which they prepaire pefectly. Their selection of home-made foods is just to die for. Their prices are fair (especially considering how much energy goes into the foods they make). The owners are some of the nicest people I have ever met. I only wish that I still lived in the area so that I could eat and hang out there every day like I used to.

This elegant tea room has been a summer tradition for my daughter, my mohter-in-law and me since it opened. The food is simply fantastic-fresh, homemade and always a wide variety. The atmosphere is delightfully elegant, yet down to earth enough to wear jeans in a pinch. The service is as friendly as everyone is in the UP. Makes you feel as though you've been friends for years. We start taking about our tearoom visits months before we make our annual trek to the Copper Country! A must if you are in the Keweenaw Area.

I simply LOVE English high [sic] tea and was delighted/surprised to learn that there was a tea house in Houghton, Michigan. I visited there from Los Angeles last summer. To say I was flabbergasted to find such an absolute jewel in the UP is an understatement. I was in Houghton for three days and went everyday, for high [sic] tea as well as just a cuppa in a beautiful, lovely atmosphere. I will be there again this coming fall of 2007 and it will be my first stop outside of my dear aunt's home. CANNOT RECOMMEND HIGHLY ENOUGH!!!!!

This tea room is the jewel of the upper peninsula! It is run by a mother and daughter team that are extraordinary cooks and the most gracious hostesses. I go to tea often and have to say that this tearoom is the best I have ever been to. They presented a lovely three tiered tray of petite homemade scones and breads in a variety of flavors, scrumptious sandwiches with a variety of fillings, and fabulous bite-size desserts on a flower decorated tray. This meal began with a piece of quiche, a cup of soup, and a pot of tea. They have an extensive variety of teas to choose from. They also have a lovely gift area in the front of the store. The day I visited they were very busy, but still took the time to greet each table. It is worth taking the time to visit this tearoom while in the U.P. I am sure my husband would even enjoy their wonderful offerings and I plan to get back there this summer.

After reading the many excellent reviews of this Victorian Tea Parlour, I decided to get a group of the girls together for High [sic] Tea. I never take a group anywhere, sight unseen but based on previous reviews and talking to the owner Glenda, I felt pretty comfortable doing so. I am happy to say that we were not disappointed. It is exactly as described in previous reviews. High [sic] Tea consisted of 9 courses and just  as many varieties of loose leaf tea were offered. We have been to quite a few tea rooms and a lot of times the tea is not hot or steeped correctly. Here every pot was just right. Glenda and her husband are extremely warm people which came through even in the reservation process. We had such a great time that we're going back with another group in November.

This was my third visit to this beautiful tearoom. I have been meaning to leave a review before this and never took the time. My friends and I are avid tea drinkers and love to visit different tearooms and this continues to be our favorite! Everything about Bella Lauren is wonderful. Food (and lots of it), the simple elegance of the home, the warmth that Glenda radiates and brings to the whole experience, what a gift to Lapeer. If you want to be spoiled or spoil someone this is the place to visit. Bella Lauren is so different from other tearooms you just have to visit and see what I mean. Thank you Glenda for opening your home for us all to enjoy!

We are from outof state and visited Michigan. I read all the wonderful reviews about this wonderful tearooma dn they are all true and then some! What a glorious, fun afternoon we spent in this lovely Victorian home. Many times much to our disappointment tearooms are advertised Victorian tearoom and the only thing Victorian is the name! Truly treat yourself to this special home it truly is like stepping back in time! Glenda and Dave are so special and their darling grandson Garett puts the finishing touches on this great experience. Food, delicious and unending, beautifully served as well as many special touches. I wish we lived here in Michigan as I would take in this wonderful tearoom frequently! We arrived much earlier than we expected and Glenda welcomed us into her home like we were old friends that came to visit not the usual welcome when guests arrive an hour early! We enjoyed her gentlemans farm and looking thru her wonderful old books! Thank you Bossenbergers for sharing this wonderful experience with guests!

Friends and I celebrated Valentines day early and visited this heavenly tearoom. From the time you step onto the front porch which is so charmingly Victorian and decorated for Valentines day you know you are in for a treat. Glenda graciously greets you and you feel like you are entering the home of a friend. It's so warmly and beautifully decorated in the time period and smells luscious. Then the actual tearoom. It's beautifully decorated with such an eye for detail. Glenda
had gone out of her way to make it a very special Valentines tea. Lots of chocolate creations and beautiful table decorations. Very elegant. The food is such a variety and just keeps coming. Everything was presented beautiful and delicious. The only regret we had was having to leave and step back into reality. Treat yourself. It's the best I have ever been to.

What a WONDERFUL red hat experience! Cheryl was a charming hostess. Our red hat group was all treated like queens. One of our members could not take the stairs to Miss Lucy's Tearoom and Parlor. Miss Lucy's has a 'Plan B' and graciously accomodated us downstairs in their elegantly decorated dining room. Based on a previously written review that said the tearoom was a smoking environment, I asked. I was assured that smoking is never allowed in Miss Lucy's Tearoom and Parlor, nor their dining room. They are all NON SMOKING environments. Our group enjoyed a delicious assortment speicalty teas, tea sandwiches, scones and desserts. Cheryl was so kind to also bring to our table samplings from their just opened gift shop to our disabled member. We were treated like queens! You definately don't want to miss out the endless food and great atmosphere

I never got to this tea room due to the fact that the lady who answered the phone was so rude! I was trying to make arrangements for my red hat chapter to attend an afternoon tea. We have ladies that are handicap and breathing problems so no smoking is extremely neccessary. This lady was extremely rude on the phone. They are not handicap friendly, you have to climb a flight of stairs to get in the tea room and to use the restroom. To top it off they allow smoking! Miss Lucy needs to take etiquette classes as to how to run a tea room, manners and protocol!

Located in the charming historic White Horse Inn, Miss Lucy's was a lovely place to spend this winter afternoon. I especially enjoyed their tomato soup which was a creamy delight, perfectly blended so as not to overwhelm the palate with a strong tomato taste. The dining room decor evoked a feeling of the 1800's with the comfort of 2000. In this relaxing atmosphere, we found the service friendly & attentive.

This is the sort of place you imagine when you think of a "perfect" tea shop. It is cozy and dim and darling, looking magazine-ready with its mismatched teacups, lace and dried flowers. The atmosphere was enhanced by soft celtic music playing in the background. Service was liesurely but attentive. We had the "lunch" which was comprised of cucumber sandwiches, chicken salad croissant, berries, figs and nuts, followed by scones with devon cream and jam. My one complaint was that tea pots were not left on the table, which meant that each time I wanted a refill, I had to ask. However, this may have been because I was having the "tea of the day". Full pots were available on the menu. I would also prefer if brown and white sugar were available, preferably in cubes, rather than packets, for a more authentic experience.

The Paisley Place Tea Room had an English Country charm. Our service was as if my very own Grandmother was delighted that we came to visit her. I appreciate the hostess accommodates gluten free foods. She was more than kindness.

The Paisley Place is Englishly quaint. It is small, and "cluttered" (in a good way) with oak furniture and lace and tea paraphernalia and teas and biscuits and English garden treasures. Its proprietor is a sweet woman with a delicate personality. The tea is delicious, as are the treats and other eats, and the service is quiet and expert.

They have a large selection of different tea's & I have learned so much about the tea's. It's always hard to decide which tea's to take home.. I also collect Tea Pots & etc. so always looking for another beautiful one to add to my collection. I am looking forward to tea at the new location. If you haven't gone to a Tea Party you should, they are great.

The site is under new ownership. This was our first visit and everyone in my group truly enjoyed the experience! The owner came the table multiple times to check on us although not overly intrusive. The tea and sandwiches were wonderful as was the ambiance. We used to love tea at The Ritz which is now closed. We now have a new favorite Tea Room and this is it!

I have visited this tea room, along with many others over the years, and I have to say that it is one of the best! The owner was there the last time I went and he was extremely nice. The service was quick, the food was delicious, the decor is always cute and, even though there were 3 other groups in there, my party (of 4) was still served promptly.

I hosted a small bridal shower at Sweet Afton, and the ambiance was just what I expected of a victorian tea house. The owners Phyllis and Al were hospitable and friendly, we had a nice time chatting with them, and they made sure everything was to our liking. They also had a gift for the bride-to-be, which was a very nice touch. As for the food, it was delectable! The mini-savories were really good, I wish they served more than 3 pieces per person. And 4 tea sandwiches, all of which were very flavorful. The scones were outta sight, fluffier in texture than I expected with an assortment of flavors. For the dessert there were 2 mini pastries, which were fairly ordinary, but still tasty. Tea variety was great, we also got a complimentary pot of tea to sample, which was their bestseller. I can't wait to go back again with my mom, who just adores afternoon tea.

We visited this delightful place for a bridal shower. The service was lovely. They served a sparkling strawberry tea prior to the main service. Our table had a mixture of cold and hot teas, all were very good. The teapots and cups were very cute and in good order. We had the traditional service of tea sandwiches, mini quiche, puff pastry, followed by scones with lemon curd, devonshire cream, and raspberry currant. We were then brought lemon and chocolate tarts. All of the food was wonderful. The owner was very friendly and helpful. I am taking my daughter back for her birthday next month.

Visited with MIL and daughter (aged 6). We enjoyed their tomato bisque, me with tea sandwiches and she with the quiche. Sarah had a teapot of apple juice, with the option of a child-sized cup (she kept her adult-sized cup). I had my tea iced, and Mom had hers hot. All good. I don't think that the reviews here don't do this place justice. There were three large parties in addition to our small one. The waitress was a trifle under-dressed, but was perfectly nice and attentive. I've been here several times (it's my daughter's favorite place). The high [sic] tea is a trifle dear (I wish they'd let me split it with my daughter, but it's against the policy of the store). But as a once in a while treat, it's great fun! (When going for lunch, I usually get the cheese muffin/soup combo.) Well worth a visit.

Food and decor was as always very nice. We were a party of five and looking forward to a very pleasant afternoon. This has been a family tradition for my sisters and Mom for about nine years. We make a standing date the Friday after Thanksgiving to have a girls day out and it starts with lunch at this particular tea room. Two of our party arrived a little early and had ordered their tea but we noticed that they were sharing a tea pot, which was something we had never experienced in all of our precious visits and we had  been there the month before and we all had our own teapots, we were a party of six in October. The waitress came and took our tea orders and left but our conversation was were we going to have to share a pot or would we get our own? When the waitress returned without our tea but came to get our lunch order I asked if we would get our own pots and if not, Why? Well have you heard the term "Soup Nazi"? The waitress said since the new management had taken over their policy was to share teapots but I told her we were just there a month before and we all had our own teapots. At this point the woman turned into the tea nazi and grabbed the one teapot off the table without asking if they wanted their own and started slamming things and then came back yelling about "the next time we came in we were to tell them ahead of time that we wanted individual teapots" It was at that point that I saw RED and reminded her that we were paying customers and she was to take her finger out of my face! With that the waitress found the smallest pots for each of us and made sure I ended up with the ugliest pot they had. They were one cup pots but still charged full price. WE also took note that every other person in the restaurant had their own teapots and they were 2 1/2 the size we had. As this was going on the owner or manager, I'm not sure what she is, witnessed what was going on and did not call the girl aside nor make any apologies but kept her head down and did not ask us as we paid our bill how our lunch was. The ambiance was terrible because the waitress has no people skills and made what was to be a lovely afternoon a very uncomfortable time for all of us. Needless to say we will NEVER darken the doorway of this restaurant again. We almost  always bought more than lunch when we ate there. I for one bought loose tea to take home and for gifts and have bought several of their gift items. So I would say we were good customers. We found our last and final visit very disappointing and am amazed that they still have a business with the way they treat their patrons. Perhaps they should attend a class where thay would learn some people skills since they have chosen a business where they serve the public they need to know how do it effectively and maybe by the end of the day when they are counting the cash they might be thankful for those they sevred that day and remember that without them they have no BUSINESS.

Three of us had a reservation for tea on a Saturday afternoon. We had terribly slow, poor service. Two of us ordered the lunch special, which was a turkey crustless quiche. That was a terrible dissappointment ... it was more like an omlette that was poured into a muffin tin and taked. It was very rubbery and scrambled-egg tasting. It was served with a cup of soup, a cheddar muffin (good) and a fruit garnish. The tomato bisque soup tasted like Campbell's canned soup and it was very thick (like the condensed can before adding milk/water. Our third guest ordered the high [sic] tea. She chose a cucumber sandwich and a vegetable cream cheese sandwich. The cucumber sandwich was butter and mustard on the bread with a slice of cucumber inbetween the bread. I'm used to cream cheese with cucumber and dill. I've been to many tea rooms and have never had mustard on a cucumber sandwich. The other sandwich was commercial vegetable cream cheese spread on two slices of bread. No herbs, vegetable slices, etc. Very disappointing sandwiches. The scones were good but took a very long time to be served. The two desserts were very slow in coming and nothing exciting. One dessert was a piece of shortbread with a creamy sauce and a mandarin orange slice on top. The other was a tiny piece of cake. We asked for separate checks, at which point the server said it would take some time to calculate them separately. When she went into the kitchen to do this the owner told her "one check", so she told us she couldn't separate it per person. When we finally got the bill, it was one check without being subtotalled per person. Since each of us had a $20, we went to the register to pay. I said I had the special with a pot of tea. The server/cashier then started slamming the cash register drawer in anger, re-wrote all three of us new, separate checks (which we asked for in the first place), and had a very curt attitude. I don't understand why you can't separate the bills in the first place since it was a hand-written bill. But, if you can't separate them, at least sub-total them per person. What were we supposed to do with three $20's? I have never been overly fond of this tea room, but wanted to try them since they were under new ownership. This confirms what I've always thought ... poor quality food,  poor service and I will not return, though it is the closest location for tea to my home. I was really hoping the new owners would bring about some needed changes. Sorry to say I was dissappointed. What is funny is that we went around the corner to the Cozy Cafe for dessert (the two of us that had the special) and right away the server asked if we'd like separate bills. We said "if you don't mind" and she said "no problem". We were just chuckling among ourselves at the vast difference between the two approaches to serving. I guess Cozy Cafe will be getting a lot of my business when I'm shopping and having lunch in Plymouth.

Let me start by saying I am not a picky person, nor do I make it a habit to write bad reviews, but my experience here was terrible. I was part of a small group (5 women) there for lunch. We had a very poor server. She messed up orders, took our silverware and when we needed more, we couldn't find her. She brought a plate of scones and said she'd be back in a second to tell us what kinds they were....she never returned. We hadn't gotten our tarts yet....and their 'manager' asked to speak to the head of our party. She takes me into the KITCHEN and reminds me that our reservation was for 2 hours and asked if that was going to be a problem. Um...excuse me?? We still were waiting (anxiously, I might add) for our service! We couldn't help it that our waitress didn't arrive to take orders in a decent amount of time, didn't serve us anything, and took forever. I had been watching, waiting for her for some time just trying to get the bill even before we had received all of our food! I told the manager about this as she was quite blatantly trying to kick us out. Very rude group. Will definitely not be returning!!

I really enjoyed the fact that at this restaurant you are offered a selection in every part of the tea. You have a choice of what kind of tea you would like, what sandwiches, scones, and dessert. Even though during our afternoon tea they were entertaining a bridal shower our service never lacked. They were very attentive.

Entrance was cute in an antiquey way. The dining area reminded me of a hospital cafeteria with commercial chairs, tables, and tablecloths, save the center doilies. The food was okay but my cucumber sandwich didn't have cream cheese; I think it was margarine. The mini quiches were definitely from Costco. The scones were delicious and although they didn't have clotted cream the lemon curd was delightful. The desserts were tasty but tiny. The tea was a little weak, but our service was good. Probably wouldn't go back, but I wouldn't discourage others to try.

For many years now I have visited the Sweet Afton Tearoom, and each visit has been with mixed review. I have yet to have experienced a consistency of good service. On one occasion it was good. On another, our server appeared to have abandoned us and when found exclaimed that she had customers. As for their food, the taste and presentation has improved from when they began.
On the visit second to my last, the sisters who own the tea room (the one with long dark hair usually found in the kitchen) made a point of discussing, coming out of the kitchen and pointing at my friend and I as we ate. (We were the only two left in the tea room at the time.) Commenting on how large our appetites are (both of us are plus-sized). I was shocked and offended. She should have rejoiced; it's the big girls keeping her in the black! She should welcome the big eaters with open arms.
The icing on the cake was when I had wanted to have my goddaughter's first birthday party at the tea room. I was inviting 15 people, all adults accept for the birthday girl and her brother. All would have their afternoon tea at roughly $15.00 per person. I asked about bringing in her first birthday cake which I had ordered through a cake shop since they offered no such service. I was told no by the dark-haired sister. She stated that her desserts are her biggest money-maker and bringing in a cake would take away from people ordering dessert. I commented that it was no different than us going back to my home for dessert and not ordering any anyway. She then said she would consider allowing the cake if I agreed to pay a $1.00 per plate charge, per person, because she would have to wash the cake dishes and frosting is very hard to remove from the plates. I asked her how long she planned on letting the plates sit before washing? No response. I was angry!!! Every time I visit the tea room I spend at least $60.00 or more. I visited at least four times a year and felt myself to be a good customer. She agreed. But obviously they do not know how to take care of their customers. I have since stopped visiting. I'm certain they'll survive, but they'll have to do it without me!

This tea room is run by a wonderful woman. It was rated four stars by the Detroit restaurant critics. The food is wonderful. They serve high tea from 11am to 5pm, reservations recommended especially for their theme teas. The high tea consists of tea sandwiches (vegetable and strawberry cream cheese are delicious), two tarts with curd and strawberry jam (to die for), miniature quiches, and two tarts (lemon and chocolate are divine). They also serve lunch and can order à la carte. Many selections of tea, all imported from London. The orange cinnamon spice is the best I have ever had and can be bought in their gift shoppe.
The charming tea room is in the heart of old downtown area of Plymouth. The servers are dressed in Victorian garb. Very clean. Tables have lace cloths, with beautiful china. I always smile at the light fixtures made of china tea cups. Always makes for a fun day. We look forward to going back again and again. I highly recommend Sweet Afton.

A very nice time to spend with family or friends. As we sat down, a pot of White Orchard Peach tea was served. A fruit cup with mellon and raspberries was excellent. Three types of tea sandwiches. Small scones with lemon curd. A dessert tray with bread pudding, chocolate brownie cups and lemon cake filled with whipped topping and topped with blueberry sauce. Friendly staff. A group of young children were coming for a Princess Tea and Lori showed us some of the fancy sandwiches for that. A most enjoyable time and money well spent.

Dear Tea Lovers,
My favorite place to take very special friends, family, or just introducing that special someone to experience the  ellegance of true British Tea dining, is "The Tea Garden Cafe'". Delight your senses with the fresh brewed loose teas of your choice--my favorite is the very aromatic house blend, with the fragrance of jasmine lingering as you take your first sip. With a wide selection of luncheon specials, for the heartiest of appetites or those petite choices, you will have to come back more than once, to try them all! One of my favorites is the finger sandwiches with fresh fruit garnishes, and apple slaw on the side. My luncheon wouldn't be complete, without trying one of their delectible desserts. If I can't decide which one to choose, we each order something different, and share... what could be better! Smiles all around, from the moment you are greeted by the guest hostess, to the wait staff. Go early and take a moment or two to see the full array of gifts, cards, and specialty items indicitive to English tradition. There is always something that catches my eye, for gift giving, or a special meal-- I promise, you will be sharing this wonderful event with others, and introducing them to their very own English Garden Victorian Tea experience.
