Tea: Good.  Food: n/a. Service: Good.  Appearance: Excellent.
Comments:
The loose teas here are very reasonably priced, but unlike tea shops like Capital Teas in Downtown Annapolis or Teavana at the mall, the loose teas are all sealed and you can't "sniff" the tea blends to see if they may appeal to you. Their loose coffee beans are set up so the customers can sniff the beans, but this would be a nice touch for the teas, too.
Would you go back? Maybe.

I absolutely love this shop! The owner is very knowledgable about the teas, and very accomodating with tea novices. The tea blends offered are many, and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend this shop when you are in Annapolis, and worth the trip, too!

Tea: Excellent.  Food: Excellent. Service: Good.  Appearance: Average.
Comments:
We visited the tea room for lunch and had a reservation. The room is colonial in style and is more tavern than tea room. The decor is simple and not specific to tea but is practical, clean and comfortable. The menu is varied and the food was excellent. I had the afternoon tea and my companion had an entree salad and pot of tea. The tea sandwiches are flavorful and attractive and our server named each when he presented them. The pastries were plentiful and delicious. The tea was excellent and served in a stoneare pot that was quite heavy, hot and a little awkward to pour. Be sure to use your napkin when holding the pot handle to avoid being burned. There were many varieties of tea to choose and they also serve flowering tea. There is a small shop on premesis.

This was my 3rd visit in 3 years and the 1st for my husband. Whether a full afternoon tea or cream tea it is continually the BEST and I've visited dozens across the country and some in other countries. Sandwiches full of filling and flavor, savory tarts are deliciously unique and the sweets are always outstanding. Service is impecable in the 1790 building. Don't miss this!

I took my mom for her birthday to the tea room along with my 13 year old son. Tha atmosphere was wonderful as well as the service. My son enjoyed the little finger sandwiches and little cakes that were served on a three layer tray as well as the diffrent teas. The three of us had diffrent teas and he tasted all. He loved the diffrent tastes of the teas. The staff made us feel so special. That made it so much nicer for my mom on her birthday. I think I made a wonderful choice in going to the Reynolds tea room.I look forward to going again very soon.

Reynolds has moved to the top of my list. The tea selection is expansive with interesting choices. Brewed in a thick (keeps it warm!) tea pot with a strainer that allows you to remove the tea when finished brewing. You set it on the underplate and it is whisked away by the server. The scones are nice sized. The savories included a mushroom tart - fabulous; mini Shepherd's pie - fabulous; ham, cucumber and egg salad sandwiches - lovely except egg salad which was ordinary. The sweets were abundant including carrot cake - not my favorite; lemon square - delicious; rasberry square - delicious; shortbread - delicious; a chocolate covered strawberry - juicy and delicious. A pleasant setting.

The atmosphere was very pleasant and very suitable location. Tea chosen was Earl Grey superior mixture that went well with the various tea sandwiches, pastries, and raisin scones. Service was excellent even though it was a busy time (1.30 to 4pm). Highly recommend room for a pleasant, casual experience but in the spirit of "taking tea."

This is a beautiful tearoom in a Colonial setting. My only complaint is there was no place to put the infuser when my tea was finished brewing! All the food was exquisite, especially the sweets. I would rate them a 10.

Brighton's at Harbor Court Hotel, Baltimore, MD

Tea: Good.  Food: Good. Service: Excellent.  Appearance: Excellent.
Comments:
The best part about Brighton's afternoon tea is the service, ambiance, and complimentary valet parking (a rare gem in the city). The tea was average and left to steep in the pot making it bitter -- but I'm sure that, if asked, would be replaced, as the servers were quite attentive. The scones were served warm with a soft center and delightfully crisp crust of sugar crystals. Along with the Devonshire cream and preserves, they were my favorite part. Unlike other tea services I've been to, the sandwiches are not abundantly served on a three tiered platter. Instead, you are served four of the smallest tea sandwiches I've, so far, come across. However small, they were, indeed, good. The sandwiches were followed by assorted sweets which were equally good. To my surprise, I walked out incredibly full and ready for a nap. It's definitely a lovely place for tea and would be especially nice for more formal occasions.

Visited the tearoom under prior owner. Victorian decor is a step back in time. Decided to return after reading complimentary reviews. Went for 2pm afternoon tea. We were served at least 6 large scones and biscuits which we couldn't finish. Came with clotted creme, lemon curd and a selection of jams and spreads - all delicious. Sandwiches included tuna, a southwestern- type chicken salad, salsa, tomato, and cucumber. After a pot of Irish Breakfast, and the Fall Blend, a subtle mixture of apples, cinnamon, and other spices, Denise (the owner) brought us dessert, chocolate cake with strawberry whipped cream, and asked us if we wanted to try another pot of tea. We were pleasantly stuffed! I ended up ordering the Fall Blend to go. All we were served for a mere $20 each - don't put it off. Treat yourself, ladies!

My daughter and I enjoyed afternoon tea and were pleasantly surprised. This tea room is quite different from any we've seen in the US, and very pleasant. We arrived without reservations at about 11 am, and we were fortunate they were able to accommodate us; reservations are suggested and often necessary. Our server first gave us a tour of the house with its history, pointing out photographs of the home at different time periods and a photo of the owner's aunt, the inspiration behind the tea room. We had a "three course tea" that included a pot of tea for each of us (I had Chai Spice and my daughter had a decaf Raspberry; both were wonderful) served in delightful teapots with cup strainers and a resting bowl for the strainer in between pours. I *loved* that, as it's how we enjoy our tea at home but rarely how we're served when out. First course included 4 generous-sized, feather-light scones (2 types: berry and lemon zest) and 4 melt-in-your-mouth biscuits (2 kinds: cheese and sweet potato) served on a two-tier glass serving dish, five types of jam, crème fraîche, and double Devon clotted cream. We didn't complete the scones for fear of not being able to finish the other 2 courses, and our server graciously packed our treats up for us to have later at home. Course two was a lovely beaded raised cake plate containing many finger sandwiches, with 2 each of asparagus and artichoke in puff pastry; hearts of tomato with seasoned mayo on heart-shaped bread with a single little teeny asparagus on each; and open-faced chicken salad on little triangles; plus four "soldiers" of bread with sliced cucumber. Each one was excellent, and the presentation was very nice. Our server repeatedly offered to warm our tea; she was consistently kind and professional. At first we felt a bit awkward, being the only customers in the whole house, but that soon faded with her friendly conversation. We had to leave sooner than planned (we'd had a stressful morning and my daughter was developing a wicked headache), but our server packed up our brownie desserts with our scones and biscuits for us to take home. (Report from the headachey daughter: the brownies "incredibly rich, just incredible.") We look forward to returning; the proximity of this tea room to Hopkins Homewood campus makes it even more appealing.

My friend took me to Thir-tea First Street Cafe and Tea Room for my birthday. We had a private room and three helium filled balloons awaited my arrival. We lived in England for nine years previously and I can say without doubt that the scones that were served were amongst the best I've had in the U.K. and outside of it. The selection of tea was excellent as were the finger sandwiches and dessert. There was a great attention to detail and I would unequivocally recommend this tea room to anyone.

My friend Laura and I went for high [sic] tea and we found it to be the best that we've tried so far. The host brought out a serving tray with five different kinds of scones for each of us, along with a good assortment of jams, lemon curd, and Devon cream. They were excellent. The next course was an outstanding seafood soup. The salad was even enjoyable, considering I'm not a salad person. Then came the three tier sandwich tray with shrimp, salmon, chicken salad, egg salad, tomato, and at least one other that I can't recall. Then a sorbet. And the final course was a chocolate bread pudding. I would not hesitate to go back again.

This was my second visit to the tea room. It was the first for my five friends. We are all Red Hatters and have enjoyed teas at many establishments in Maryland, Virginia,  D.C., and Pennsylvania. This tea room is by far one of the best.  There were 25 tea choices offered. The teas were brewed perfectly. The scones were of varied flavors and more than we could consume. They included sweet potato, raisin and cranberry, and lemon zest. Devon cream, crème frâiche, lemon curd,  and assorted fruit preserves accompanied the scones. The sandwiches were a delightful variety including cucumber, tomato, salmon, cheeses, and chicken salad in pastry. The bread sandwiches were cut into various shapes of teacups, teapots, etc. After scones and sandwiches we were served lemon sorbet. Dessert was a delightful walnut blonde brownie with berries and whipped cream. The décor of the first and second floors of the tea house is very Victorian. There is rich wallpaper on the walls and the ceilings. The windows have some small squares of stained glass. Various teapots are displayed in the first floor dining area. Lovely tea hats, gloves, boas, jewelry, and other items are decoratively placed in the upstairs tea room. The restroom is also very Victorian in décor. The exterior of the house is Victorian and does need some fresh paint and some repair, but this is a minor flaw that the owner will be fixing. There is a very cute teapot-shaped sidewalk sign in front the house.  The owner and her staff are very gracious and served us well. There are three levels of tea offered. I would recommend The Thir-tea First Cafe and Tea Room to anyone and everyone.

This place was VERY different than ANY tea room I have EVER been to! I guess the building used to be an old home built in the 1800s. And it hasn't changed much. VERY DARK. The café part was on the first floor and the tea room was in one of the bedrooms upstairs, secluded from everything else. My guest and I arrived at 2pm for high [sic] tea. Everything was made fresh on the spot. The linens and china were pretty tacky. First course was scones and biscuits. They were excellent. Next was a salad. It was okay. Then a soup. HORRIBLE. I was wondering who did the taste tests? Then the sandwiches. Who makes pickled cucumber sandwiches? All of them were pretty bad. Then a sorbet, THEN dessert. A brownie. I was HUGELY disappointed after reading the first review on this place. Most of all I can't believe it took us three hours to have high [sic] tea, which was actually more of a long drawn out afternoon tea. And be aware this place is not in a good area.
Note from The Guide: Afternoon tea is the meal served in mid to late afternoon, consisting of light "snack" foods -- finger sandwiches, scones, pastries -- and accompanied by tea. Service is often elegant, with the best china, silver, and decorations. High tea is an evening meal, served after 6pm and usually later, and is a much heavier, full meal, as often accompanied by ale as by a cup of tea. High tea is the equivalent of our dinner or supper; it's a homier meal served with regular china and flatware -- very *un*fancy. "High" does not denote "elegant" -- it refers to the height of the table where the meal is served! (Afternoon tea is
also referred to as "low tea." :-)

Our tea group had a delightful Sunday tea. Our waiter, Brian, was very attentive and so nice. The first course of scones and biscuits had us wondering if we could eat more. There were five different selections, all fresh and warm. The tea sandwiches and desserts were wonderful as well. The owner presented our guest of honor with a lovely tea cup flower arrangement.

I agree with the reviewer that said "snobby." I feel like I have to thank the owners for allowing me to be present. Requests for tables are absolutely ignored. It reminds me of every restanurant that seats customers next to each other for the wait staff's convenience. Miniscule amounts of clotted cream and lemon curd are offered and having more than two kinds of tea if the group is greater than four people is  discouraged. I go because it's close and because it's the only game in town. Food portions are also miniature -- really tasty food but pricey. I do LOVE the gift shop.

This place has a "snobby" air that I really didn't care for. The food was just ok. We were a large group and yet several people left feeling hungry. I had been there with a friend once before and I wanted to sit in a particular place. I was told that I had to sit elsewhere. Yet, they weren't particularly busy. While I realize this is just tea, for the money they charged a little more food would have been nice.

We had a party of 8 and were the only party there. We did not get seated for 45 minutes after our reservation due to a lingering baby shower, although the staff did offer to seat us in a smaller area. We decided to wait for the larger, nicer room and at least we had the neat antigue shop to look around in to occupy our time. The service was slow and we had to make multiple requests for things such as water (which we never did get), cream, etc. I was surprised given that we were the only ones there. The food was good with the scones being the best...nice and warm! There was a large variey of tea and the room was fun with vintage hats available for the guests to wear. My 6 year old  daughter and two older neices had a fun time and were offered tuna or PBJ sandwiches in place of the cucumber sandwiches (which were good). The price was considerably lower than other teas I had attended ($11.75 pp). Perhaps this was an off-day for the staff (I hope).

3. Choose a table. 50s era, Asian motif, Victorian tea rose.
4. Afternoon tea. Cucumber sandwiches on wheat or white (shaped like circles). Cute
5. Scones with raisins. Choice of lemon curd (yum) or EXTRA CREAMY Devonshire cream (yum yum).
6. Assorted cookies from nearby bakery. Mini fruit tart, chocolate covered cookies, meringue cookies, McVitties digestive biscuits. Fresh and flavorful.
7. Many teas to choose. Exotic to fruity.
8. Service. Knowledgeable and attentive.

Despite the mixed reviews here, my husband and I decided to try it out. We arrived at noon on a Saturday. We had made reservations but they were not needed, as we were the only ones there. Being the only ones there, the service was excellent. The choices of tea were enormous. My husband had the honeysuckle white tea and I went with the peach apricot. Afternoon tea started out with finger sandwiches -- the curried shrimp was the best. The scones were good, but I would have preferred them to be a little fresher. Fruit tart was amazing -- absolutely delicious. I was a little surprised to still see the Girl Scout cookies (as mentioned in another review), but when I learned that they were to support a local troop I thought that was nice. Overall, we enjoyed our experience. The tea room would be a little crowded with other patrons since it is in the basement of an antique store, but it was decorated with lots of whimsy. We plan to go back.

The tea area of the antique shop is delightful. The owner brews excellent tea and will brew a new pot if the customer is not satisfied. The price is appropriate for what is served. I would like to see more tea sandwiches of more variety. The fruit tarts and cookies are made by a local baker and are excellent. There are Victorian hats and many tea products for sale as well as antique items in the tea area.

Tea was served in a teapot and had good flavor; however, as no strainer was offered nor required, it was probably prepared from tea bags rather than loose tea. The food included some tasty items, such as the chicken Dijonnaise and cucumber sandwiches as well as mini fruit tarts. On the other hand, finding Girl Scout cookies among the sweets selection was a bit of a shock. Aside from the sandwiches, none of the food items appeared to be homemade. It should be noted, however, that the cost of the high [sic] tea was much lower than other places. The atmosphere was a mixed bag: we felt a little rushed as the tea room hit closing time, but the variously themed place settings were striking and the room was full of neat little tea-related items and -- the highlight -- a great display of vintage hats all adorned with ribbons, flowers, and veiling. Overall, this was not the ultimate tea experience, but it was a nice place to get together with friends.

Service can be uneven at this small tea room, and its location (in the basement of a small antique shop) may not sound very inviting. However, the shop meets its challenges well. A sizeable menu of teas (loose and bagged, both) includes several specialty teas assembled by local teachers. If you choose one of these the respective teacher's class gets a portion of the profits. Tea is served in a pot, nicely brewed. Depending on how busy the shop is, your service will be very attentive, or less-so. A cream tea, a high [sic] tea, as well as some à la carte sandwiches and biscuit choices round out the menu. Music is soft classical, although not live, and the tea room is a quiet but intimate space. Special events here include Senior Fridays, anniversary celebrations in February, etiquette classes for young ladies that include high [sic] tea, and occasional bonnet sales. Don't forget to try on one of the cloud-like ladies' hats during your visit for tea. Tea cozies, infusers, pots and other tea paraphernalia are always available for sale as are many of the teas and biscuits that the shop serves.

Last summer, I took 3 little girls to tea; more recently I joined friends for a "Ladies Afternoon Out." Both occasions were charming. The ambiance in Beans and the Belfry is VERY different than other tea rooms. It's in an old church building and furnished with second-hand treasures; quite cozy and welcoming. The servers were very gracious. With the children, they gave sweet & entertaining lessons in proper tea etiquette. With the adult party, the service was warm, but discretely in the background. The three different types of tiny sandwiches were lovely, plus they appealed to our health conscious sensibilities. The warm scones, clotted cream and jams were to die for. Only the store-bought sweets  afterwards were a little disappointing, but we were so full by that time that it hardly mattered. Well worth a trip to Brunswick.

Overall the experience was delightful. The food truly was wonderful, there were simple courteousy that were less than desirable. We arrived early and inquired into seating earlier. The answer, after verifying with the chef, was that we'd made reservations and that we'd have to wait until then. The general response was fine but the delivery was a bit bitter. When we arrived back, on time, we were quickly seated and surprised that they'd run out of a couple items that we'd been told were part of the meal. We'd been served the wrong tea, which actually turned out to be a blessing for me. And, although I'd requested and was assured when I'd made the reservation, they offered no special acco
mmodations for my friend's birthday celebration. The town was nice and the tea room was mostly pleasant, tainted only a touch by the couple of incidents and a server that seemed to run hot and cold on us.

Afternoon tea at the Kettledrum was a delightful beginning to a weekend visit to Chestertown. The tea-themed ambiance was very attractive without being fussy. Choose from an extensive selection of teas that are served in unique individual teapots with the proper accoutrements for straining the leaves. Bring your appetite for the afternoon tea. Although I usually prefer traditional teas, I thoroughly enjoyed the eclectic selection of savories that included a stuffed mushroom, a tasty filled artichoke, and a tiny quiche, in addition to traditional finger sandwiches. The scones were scrumptious, as were the sweets that I ended up enjoying later that evening. Add in friendly, pleasant, and helpful service, and one starts thinking about moving to Chestertown. In addition to the full afternoon tea, the Kettledrum offers a cream tea, a light tea, and a savory tea at very reasonable prices.

I thought the service was great. The waitress was very pleasant and informative about the different teas. She made my husband and I feel special. Only complaint I had was the owner. I asked her a few questions about the teas and complimented her about the ambiance. She was very standoffish. I am glad her staff does not act like her.

I've been to several tea rooms in the south and midwest and always had fabulous experiences. This was the first place I tried after moving to Baltimore. I couldn't wait to take my mom and best friend. Wow, was I disappointed! I think Tea on the Tiber is very overpriced for the amount of mediocre food that you get. The tea was delicious and so was the atmosphere. However, it's all downhill after that. There was hardly any fruit (a couple grapes and one strawberry per person) ... very tiny portions of cheese ... one small, dry scone, and three of the tiniest sandwiches I've ever tried. (Think crackers with a thin spread and shaved beef or two asparagus tops). The little desserts appeared to be store-bought and were dry in texture. This was the most expensive tea (of its type) that I have ever attended and, by far, the most unsatisfying. Too bad. Take my suggestion and find another tea room to visit.
Would you go back? Sorry, no.

The tea room was lovely but too small for private conversations. You unwittingly heard eveyones conversations from the other three tables quite well. The savories were interesting and tasted good. I would have chosen a plain scone in lieu of chocolate chip to compliment the lemon curd, jam and clotted cream (of which were miniscule portions). My friends tea was very good although I will not try a white tea again. The server was scarce yet the 20% tip was included in the cost. I would say that I will give it another try although it is not the best tea room I have ever visited.

I was absolutely stunned when reading the review posted before mine. I have tried many tearooms in MD & this is the best by far. I have never seen so much food at an afternoon tea & with so many "extras" added like the cheese & fruit. The scones were hot out of the oven & moist in the inside; the best I have ever had. The tea selection is large but not overwhelming. The sandwiches are different & flavorful. Not the miniature one bite sandwiches I have received at other tearooms. By the time I reached the sweets on the top tier I was stuffed but the desserts were so appealing I could not resist! I found this tearoom to be head & shoulders above any other I have tried. I have been here  many times & love to return at least once a month to see what new treats they have. Look for my next review in February - I know I'll be going back!!!

If you make reservations for afternoon tea be aware that they want 48 hours notice of any change. This is not stated on the web site or mentioned when I called to make the reservation. You may be charged for anyone that cancels within that 48 hours. I wasn't but was told I could be. 20% gratuity is automatically added to the bill. I don't believe the service warrents this.

Tea on the Tiber is a very cozy tea room with excellent teas and service. I have not found a tea room, to date, with a better cup of Earl Grey. The homemade scones are also a favorite of mine. Although most of the sandwiches were good, the bread could have been fresher and something other than roast beef would have been preferred. Regardless of my complaints, this tea room remains a favorite among my friends.

The hostesses were very friendly. The sandwiches were good. Fruit consisted of a half of strawberry and two slivers of an orange for each person. Two of the desserts were recognized by my friend as those you can buy at Costco Warehouse. My friends and I have visited tea rooms all over Maryland and Southern Pennsylvania and were not pleased with this experience. We felt as though we basically paid for atmosphere.

Everything was lovely. My only complaint was that the scone was so deliciously sweet that I didn't want or need to use lemon curd or jelly or even double cream. I like all that stuff so I would have preferred a regular plain scone. After all none of that really goes with a cinnamon scone. Other than that it was really good. The sandwiches were terrific, I could have done with fewer sweets and more sandwiches but that's tea for you.

My friend and I found this tea room to be outstanding. Visitors have a nice selection of herbal, green, or black teas from which to choose. Food is plentiful and interesting -- 'extra' touches included cheese wedges, grapes, a slice of raisin bread with what we think was a walnut cream cheese spread, and a deviled egg -- and for the first time in my afternoon tea-ing experience, the sweets were every bit as delicious as the savory sandwiches (the lemon curd tartlets were particularly good). The tea room has the feel of a lovely Victorian parlor, but we were perfectly comfortable in jeans and boots on a snowy day. Service was prompt and friendly, and the atmosphere was very welcoming. Cost for afternoon tea was $18.00 (before tax or tip). The menu changes monthly -- my friend and I have plans to return.

This was a fantastic tea experience! The shop is on the ground floor of an interior design business, and all of the beautiful furnishings are also for sale. The atmosphere and service were wonderful, and the food was incredible. The afternoon tea included a lot more food than most, and I left feeling quite satisfied. The scones were delicious, and there was a great variety of finger sandwiches and fruits and sweets. The teas available were a nice mix of standard black teas and more exotic. I had the Ginseng Peppermint, which was fantastic. The menu changes monthly, and I fully intend to go back often.

I was organizing a ladies outing for some friends and came across the Serenity Tearoom. So I made the reservation and we were on our way. We were so excited when we walked into the quaint tearoom that was so warm and inviting. Our expectations were exceeded in every way. The tea selection was phenomenal. There were the typical loose leaf selections that we all have come to love like Earl Grey and English Breakfast, but they also had many nontraditional selections for the adventurous. There were over 60 teas to choose from. The scones, finger sandwiches, and desserts were so scrumptious. All made from scratch I will add. Definitely the best tasting clotted cream I have ever had. We chose the high [sic] tea option with soup which was so delicious. All my friends were so impressed as they had not had a tearoom experience before. I am so happy that their first tearoom experience was so memorable. Thank you so much we will definitely be back. This is the way a tearoom should be.

I came all the way from Italy to have tea at the Serenity with my friend Cathy. We both enjoy tea a lot and because we cook and appreciate good quality food, we were really satisfied with our afternoon tea (great sandwiches and chicken cajou tarts, as well as sweets). Blanch is a very good person, devoted to her passion/work and she made me dream of having a place like that myself in Italy. She really deserves a visit and her tea selection is so good you won't be able to go home without buying some. If you are looking for real traditional afternoon tea (muche better than my experience in London) and a lovely cosy place to enjoy it, Serenity is the answer!

They even accomodated my mother, who has an extreme gluton allergy, by providing her with a beautiful salad to enjoy. The staff was very accomodating and polite, and made my sister feel very special. There are over 53 different loose tea to order from and purchase to take home. 95% of the food including the pastries are made on the premises. The food was great (and there was plenty of it) and the soup was AMAZING. We had the Butternut Squash and the Chicken Tortilla, which was the best I had ever had. The Holiday Tea was so good that I bought some to take home. But the best part of the entire experience was the service. Blanch and her team were so helpful and accommodating. The tea and food were outstanding. It is a very quaint and cute shop, with a little bit of old world thrown in. The service was fantastic. It was a perfect afternoon.

This is a very pretty tearoom, inside and out. It is in a lovely area in historic Frederick, on a street with many small, independent shops. The 3:00 o'clock tea we booked was a "Traditional Tea" and included a nice variety of tiny sandwiches and savory pastry, EXCELLENT raisin scones and tea bread, and varied fresh and baked sweets. It was as filling as a good lunch. There are 50 varieties of teas and if you finish one small pot, they are happy to make another, different tea for you. All the teas and several other menu items are available to take home and there is a small selection of tea-related items also for sale. They made very tasty substitutions for the vegetarian in our party and were happy to accommodate any food allergies. (We had told them of our special requirements when booking.) The staff and owner were friendly and gracious!

I took my 11 year old daughter here as a special treat. The idea was to go to a special tea room that exhibited such fine touches to set the mood. We were warmly greeted by Blanche and her daughter. Everything was clean, friendly (Victorianesque), warm and welcoming. We sat at a window, flowers at the table, and overlooking the quaint street, All our choices were clearly explained. The food was so good, we had to focus on slowing down, not devouring it, and remembering to talk as well. The room was filled with others, also out for a lovely time. Our tea selections were good, and we were advised on what went with what. Blanche even made sure we got a snapshot of the 2 of us. Truly it was a delight, don't miss it.

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful, leisurely High [sic] Tea on our first visit to Serenity Tearoom. We enjoyed ourselves immensely - everything from the lovely English ambiance to the attentive service. We found the tea expertly brewed (Darjeeling, Valentine blend, and Mango teas) and served. The scones were delicious - light and satisfying, not at all dense. Blanch was able to accommodate our vegetarian requirements by providing us with wonderful substitutes for the chicken dish. We each had a different soup (cucumber and strawberry), both of which were very refreshing. The pastries and savories were also delicious and we left very happy and full. The scones were so good, we bought some to  take home! It was a pleasure to meet Blanch and experience her wonderful pampering - Thank you!

This tearoom owner/hostess has certainly fulfilled her mission "to provide an elegant and professional Traditional Afternoon Tea, with tasty food, hospitable service and fond memories." The warm scones were excellent; the lemon curd was delicious, the tea was great (try the Blueberry Rooibos or Golden Monkey) and the service was wonderful! This was a great place in which to sit, relax and chat. Serenity more than lived up to the excellent reviews here. I'm looking forward to my next visit!!!!!

We had our MOMS (Club) Day Out at this lovely establishment. The whole affair was perfectly delightful. Blanche (the owner who also greeted and seated us) was sweet, informative, and eager to please. She educated me about the teas (privately, when I inquired in her retail boutique in back) and she even offered a free sample of another flavor which she thought my husband might enjoy! EXCELLENT SERVICE!!!! The style and ambiance was sweet - I loved all of the tea art!! The food was fresh and tastey. The tea was INCREDIBLY delicious, served at the perfect amount of steep and temp.

Serenity Tearoom is a lovely establishment located in downtown Frederick. The decor, both inside and out, is cheerfully done in pale yellow with purple accents. Blanch Henry, the owner, greeted us with a big smile and led us to our table. She sat us down and took a few minutes to welcome us and explain the menu. There are 50 loose teas to choose from. Between the four of us we tried 8 different flavors. My favorite was the Earl Grey Cream, although the Sencha Cherry Rose was a very close second. Each and every pot was steeped perfectly and tasted wonderful, never too strong nor too weak. Next, a variety of yummies arrived. Cucumber sandwiches, chicken cashew salad on pastry shells, tomato and cream cheese sandwiches followed by a tier of tea breads and warm golden raisin scones topped with a tier of gingersnap cookies, two different kinds of fruit tartlets and chocolate covered strawberries. Along with these came delicious strawberry jam, lemon curd, and clotted cream. Everything was absolutely scrumptious. Blanch was very helpful in answering any questions and describing the flavors of the teas. I would recommend Serenity Tearoom to anyone looking for an enjoyable and relaxing afternoon.

The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous. They had a warm smile and greeting, not mechanical or robotic. The huge selection of tea was a big plus and tasted delicious. The food was scrumptious. They were prepared fresh and placed neatly on a tier. The restroom was clean and immaculate. I had so much fun with the ladies as well as having a memorable time at Serenity. I had an exciting experience and I definitely would come again soon. Keep up the excellent work, Serenity!!

I would recommend the Serenity Tearoom to anyone who would like to seat and relax with friends in a very warm atmosphere enjoying a delicous pot of tea and the most wonder delictable tea sandwiches, scones and desserts that I have eaten in quite a while. Along with our meal we enjoyed homemade strawberry jam, lemon curd to put on our scones. The scones were a wonderful golden raisin scone which did not need anything on them (which the tearoom does sell, and I would recommend buying a bag full to take home and enjoy with your family).. This was a wonderful experience for me and I would and will definitely recommend to all friends and family members to go and visit.

The Serenity Tearoom is certainly aptly named. We visited the tearoom on a busy afternoon after being accommodated on very short notice by the owner, Blanche. We were made to feel incredibly comfortable, even though she was extremely busy. The atmosphere in the tearoom was still very soothing, however, even with the room being filled to capacity! The food was delicious, the scones among the best I have ever eaten. Having such an extensive choice of loose teas is something you don't find in many tearooms and was greatly enjoyed. Having the tea steeped prior to arriving at our table was a touch I had never before experienced, and the tea was excellent! I will go back to this tearoom time and time again.

I ordered afternoon tea and it was great. The Cream Earl Gray is excellent. Blanch's scones are so good that I order them for home teas. The ambiance and food took me back to my visits to English team rooms. I try to visit Serenity Tea Room at least once a month. I'm happy to see the tea room is attracting so many visits. Blanch Henry, owner of the Serenity Tea Room, is a charming lady, her establishment is one of the most lovely and relaxing places I've visited, and the tea and food were delicious -- especially the light, flakey scones reminiscent of southern American baking powder biscuits. Mrs Henry's bone china collection adds beauty and interest for the eye, while tasteful background music soothes the soul. You will be reminded of a British tea room of the early twentieth century -- or what we imagine that to have been! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit and look  forward to going back soon.

What a lovely experience after a day of antiquing! Newly opened and located in a row house in the heart of Frederick, this tea room has the charm of high ceilings and wood floors found in homes of centuries past. Two large windows brighten the room and offer a view of the street and passersby. I was particularly impressed that, unlike many tea rooms where the abundance of lace, chintz and ruffles verges on tacky, the décor here was tastefully understated. Each table had a simple damask tablecloth, pretty antique china cups and saucers, and a vase of fresh flowers. There are seven or eight tables here (mostly two-tops, with two four-tops) but there is additional seating outside in the courtyard when the weather allows. A large party had wisely reserved that area on the gorgeous autumn day I was there. Both the owner, Blanch Henry, and her husband graciously greet and seat me and explain the menu and what is being served that day. There are fifty loose teas from which to choose and which can also be purchased from the retail area in the back. Each pot of tea arrives perfectly steeped eliminating the need for tea strainers at the table and avoiding the too weak at the start, too strong at the end dilemma. On this day, a variety of tea sandwiches and savories arrived (traditional cucumber, a nicely seasoned chicken salad in a pastry, and a delicious herbed  cheese with tomato), plus a warm raisin scone, a slice of tea bread, lemon cookies, fresh fruit tartlets, and chocolate dipped strawberries. Fresh jam or lemon curd and Devonshire cream come on the side, naturally. And at a price of $18, this tea was a bargain. I would highly recommend!

Our server, Lindsay, made us feel most welcome. She explained everything on both the tea menu as well as the items on the food trays. A young 7 year old girl accompanied us for her first real "tea" and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Lindsay made her feel very special and most welcome. There was a "children's corner" with hats to try on which the little girl enjoyed after our tea. The tea was flavorful and tasty, the food carefully prepared and the atmosphere very elegant.

I went there for their "Full Tea" with my women's group. We enjoyed it immensely. The "Full Tea" includes two pots of tea per table (which is refillable with the same or different types of tea), soup, scones with clotted cream and jam, finger sandwiches, and desserts. All of the food was homemade and delicious! The chicken noodle soup was savory and well seasoned. The scones were the most moist scones I've ever had! The were excellent! The chicken salad and cucumber cream cheese finger sandwiches were very tasty. The chocolate mousse served in white chocolate cups with almonds on top was to die for! We also enjoyed the different types of tea we tried. The atmosphere was very nice and our hostesses were very hospitable and accommodating. I highly recommend this tea room and will definitely return.

My daughter and I enjoyed tea together at Linens & Lace Tea Room. Her and I talked, while enjoying this tea place-I know we stayed for over an hour. I really liked that we had plenty of room. We had gone to another tea place and was smooshed. We had Orange Rasberry & Lemon tea. Both teas were excellent. My daughter enjoyed the tea as much as I did! The scones & clotted cream were out of this world!!! We are already planning to go back with some other friends very soon. The desserts and sandwiches were OK, too large and not kid friendly - I would recommend cucumber & cream cheese and Peanut Butter and Jelly.

This was the second year in a row my mother and I visited shortly before Christmas, so the room was seasonally decorated. We really enjoyed looking at all the lovely antique place settings including the teapots. The server was the same both years and this year friendly and attentive enough, but not overly so, as was our experience last year. We skipped the soup this year because the sandwiches, scones and desserts are filling enough. The food was tasty and served very attractively, and we were allowed to linger as long as we liked. Considering the prices the hotels in DC charge, this is a real bargain and was the end of a special day  trip.

I had never been to tea before and It was not as I thouhgt it would be. We only had one kind of sandwich and it was made with lunch meat ham. Everything was to large in size. There were to many sweets and very large. The hostess hovered to much and would keep coming over. She would not stop talking to us and let us eat. We were the only people there. Hot tea good. Ice tea not enough ice. We were never offered cream or lemon for our tea.
Would you go back? Sorry, no.

I called for a reservation about two hours before we expected to be there. There was no problem. The hostess couldn't have been any more pleasant or cooperative. The food was delicious as was the tea. The room was very Victorian. She also had a collection of hats that she talked to us about. When asked, the hostess was able to tell us some history of Hampstead and the surrounding area. She was extremely interesting and very pleasant to converse with. She was very attentive to our needs but did not hover over us. I would most definitely go to Linens & Lace again. We were pampered and spoiled and made to feel very welcome.
Thank you Linens & Lace for a wonderful afternoon!

The room was lovely and the servers very cheerful and friendly, but the service itself was inattentive. Chicken salad was fabulous; a large scoop was served on a lettuce leaf with fresh fruit, a few crackers with a small piece of cheese, and a small, rather hard scone. No clotted cream or jam; only topping provided for the scone was a pat of foil-wrapped butter. The fare was artfully arranged on the plate, and looked very pretty. The tea itself was served in individual-sized pots, which is cute, but each one holds less than 2 cups. The servers were not available for warm ups, additional tea, or even to provide missing sugar. Tea was in bags, which is a first for me in a "tea room". There was nowhere to put the bags, so they remained in the pots (making the tea bitter). In the next room was a little girl's birthday party. The children appeared to be having a great time, but the ambiance wasn't quite what we were after. I brought my 11-year-old neice to tea, to celebrate her passing her pointe test in ballet. I had just finished telling her that going out to tea was another one of those "rites of passage," because little kids usually aren't welcome in tea rooms; it's supposed to be a calm place where one can enjoy tea and conversation without the chaos of the regular world intruding....Then we arrive to find the birthday party in progress! I had made reservations a few days' earlier; maybe they should have warned  us?

I was looking forward to visiting the tea room for two reasons. I needed a "tea time" to relax and I wanted to replenish my tea. The service was the worst I had every experience in a "tea room." The young man that helped me was obviously preoccupied with something else. I barely understood what he was saying. The tea pot he brought me was obviously worn and needed replacing. I ordered several types of tea and didn't realize until I got home that the bags had no labels. I was very disappointed.

I have been to this location twice. On both occasions the service was deplorable. On the first occasion our order was simple forgotten. I'm not sure how since we were the only ones in the place. We returned for a second visit thinking that the experience was just an anomaly. On the second occasion, we were again forgotten. After telling the waiter and manager we EVENTUALLy got our tea (a good 30 minute wait). Then the wait for the food began. It never came. We finished up our teas, and I simply had to ask for our money back for the food since I didn't want to eat the food without the tea. Also, the tea was served in small pots with teabags (the large ones), but we didn't know if it had  been steeping for the correct time or not before it arrived at our tables. One person in our party said theirs was on the bitter side. It's a shame that such an otherwise appealing place should be plagued with inept servers and management. The decor and atmosphere are appealing, especially for those of us who don't particularly enjoy lacey-frilly tea settings. Sadly, Infusions lacks the "art" of tea, and nothing can make up that missing piece. I'd rather stay home and brew up a pot of tea without the stress. Luckily, we were in DC the following day and were able to enjoy great tea and tolerable scones at Teaism.

The Tea Room at the Maryland Antiques Center has changed! I recently went to afternoon tea with my family and friends and we discovered to our delight that the Tea Room has a very attractive addition – a very cozy, British-feeling room that features a lovely bar and wines. The scones were amazing, and a British friend was so impressed with them that she went back the next weekend to purchase more. This is indeed the highest compliment! The new owners were friendly and helpful and have a lovely tradition of presenting a gift-wrapped cup and saucer to those celebrating birthdays. The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming.

The Antiques Center Tea Room has new owners, and the change is for the better! The tea shop is larger, and the new owners have opened a wine bar as well. They maintain the charming tradition of selecting your own tea cup from a good assortment. I went with 3 female friends and we had reservations for an afternoon tea (I think). We were brought soup and salad (with wonderful raspberry vinaigrette) to start. I ordered the jasmine tea, which was excellent. Next they brought out the silver tier servers with homemade scones, tasty finger sandwiches, and of course, an array of delightful desserts. The food was excellent and the owners were very friendly. Both husband and wife came out to greet us, and continued to check on us and chat throughout our tea (without being intrusive). They also let us know about a wine-tasting, and we are going to go back for that. If you've been to this tea house before it changed owners (and it was good then), you should go back, because it's even better.

My friend held my baby shower at the Tea Room on January 22, 2005. It was my first time there and I was treated like a queen (which is what I needed at 8 months pregnant). The tea (Vanilla Hazelnut) was outstanding, the food was incredible and the cake that was made (in the shape of a teddy bear as that is what my new son's nursery is decorated in) was exceptional! This was a wonderful experience and I have wonderful memories of such a special baby shower. (I've since been back for high [sic] tea with my aunt and mother and have been in to purchase scones to take home with me). I will always recommend the tea room and can't wait til I can go back.

This review is coming late as a result of a visit to a very bad tea room at
which time we realized just how wonderful an experience our visit to the tea room in Leonardtown was. The decor transports you to another time of silver and lace, ladies and gentlemen, when tea was not just a drink but an experience. The food was not only delicious but presented elegantly. My favorite part was getting to choose my tea cup from an array of delicate bone china. They have the best scones I have ever tasted before. Defintely a five star tea room not to be missed. it is worth the drive.

The Tea Room at the Maryland Antiques Center has changed hands many times over the years. I must say that I have NEVER had a bad meal there. The service has been slow at times, but that's the price you pay for delicious food.
A friend and I had lunch back in January. It was delicious. Our menu consisted of: chicken salad with grapes and almonds served on a croissant, crab bisque, and fresh fruit salad. And of course, we had to get dessert. I was sorry to hear that they were not serving Kahlua cheesecake or chocolate bombs that day (two of our favorites), but my friend and I shared triple chocolate cheesecake. It was divine!
We plan to go back and hopefully have high [sic] tea (reserve in advance early -- books quickly)!

My husband and I have stopped at this shop several times over the last few years for a cuppa and a snack. We have never had reservations and have not been turned away. On one occasion one of the young waitresses was just starting and new to some of the services offered, but she was very pleasant and tried very hard to please. The ability to choose one's own tea cup and saucer from the variety available is always a treat. There have always been numerous choices of tea although limited choices of snack without a reservation. But the food has always been ample and very tasty.

I have been to the Dunes many times for elevenses and have never lacked for a seat or for good company. Conversation areas are set up so you can talk to others while you enjoy your tea and crumpets. If the day is nice you can head outside to sit in one of the rockers on the deck overlooking the ocean. They only serve one kind of tea which is a delicious secret recipe they have been brewing for decades. Although not for sale you can enjoy as much as you want of it while you are there. The crumpets are delectable but cookies store-bought. Next time I am there, I will pass on these reviews and maybe get fresh baked cookies on my next trip.

My husband and daughter and I stayed in the Dunes Manor Hotel off-season, at 28th Street, ocean block. The hotel has a tradition dating back to the late 80s, when it was built, of serving free afternoon tea between 3 and 4pm every day to anyone who walked into the door. So you didn't even have to be a guest. Just as long as you didn't wander in with your sandy flip-flops and bathing suit. My husband and I were expecting self-serve -- tea bags in Styrofoam cups -- but a friendly server pours a cup of hot tea from a samovar into real cups and saucers with a pretty floral pattern. At another table you could add sugar, milk, or lemon. At another table you were served cookies (store-bought though). The best part was being served crumpets, which you coat with butter and marmalade. In nice weather you can take your treat outdoors to the porch facing the ocean -- several high-backed rockers await you. When it's colder, though, you'll have to find a chair in the pretty lobby and they get scarce starting at 3pm. That was our only complaint: people "camped out" on those chairs for the full hour, forcing us to have our tea in the bar area. Still, we found the tea very pleasant, a bonus for choosing the Dunes Manor Hotel for a getaway weekend.

A companion and I went to celebrate and have afternoon tea. A very disappointing experience here. Food was mediocre and expensive. My friend noted that the first course was a mushroom appetizer and we immediately informed the proprietor and asked if a substitution could be made ("anything") for my friend's allergy but he was unable to accommodate. A simple question as to how the tea room got started turned in to a very long diatribe about the personal problems of the proprietor and his tea room (including the loss of a former tea room partner). The loose leaf brewed tea was good. Otherwise a very unpleasant experience at $20 each. Not recommended.

I went to the tea room to check it out for an upcoming bridal shower. There was an effort to spruce the place up and make it look dainty, but it needs more work -- the industrial ceiling tiles and clutter took away from an otherwise charming and promising décor.
The service was wonderful, the assortment of teas and jams was astounding, but ultimately, what you got for the price simply was inappropriate. At $25 dollars a person for afternoon tea, you would expect fantastic food and the most posh setting. Instead the setting is slightly dingy, and there was the distinct feeling that someone had opened several boxes of Pepperidge Farm cookies and threw them together -- the profit margin on our meal must have been more than $15 per plate.

This is a buffet. The downside is you're missing a lot of the personal service. The plus side is [1] there's plenty of food (something my husband loved) and [2] there's more of a selection. The traditional sandwiches were blah, but the open faced ones were delicious and different. I didn't care for the sweets, but the scones were wonderful. There is a jar of clotted cream on the buffet table, and butter and raspberry jam on one's table. One nice touch was the crystalized honey-sugar. I do love some honey in my tea.

Walking into Normandie Farms farmhouse for Tea hinted at warmth and the comforts of a classic tea. The pot of tea was not so good. Simple boiling water would have improved this tea. It was as weak as water. I had to ask for another teabag as well as putting my own teabag into the pot. The sandwiches were quite imaginative although I would have liked to see more sandwiches and less of the brie and pate. WHY serve Popovers at tea?? The scones were quite good! The tiniest cakes in the world were excellent - so small you can taste more than one without feeling guilty. They were also classic French cakes. A strolling violinist was a very nice touch. Always though when you go to tea in America why are there no men? You always see English men out for tea. Still all in all not bad but why call it English tea why not call it what it is a French tea? Tea is meant to be fluid and adapted to the culture it is in.

The all-you-can-eat buffet is busy, but the line moves fast and there is plenty to eat. The food is varied and delicious. The tea was lukewarm and weak (we were brought hotter water -- not boiling as it should be -- and more bags). The room was full of happy women wearing big hats. This was a rather different type of place ... definitely a cafe rather than a tearoom. We were served a special Autumn Afternoon Tea. Although the selection of loose teas was on the short side, my friend and I were content with our choices. All the courses were homemade and delicious, especially the butternut squash soup! The service was friendly and attentive. I wish we had been seated in the main part of the cafe though, rather than wedged in the front near the window.
Would you go back? Hope so, but we don't live nearby.

First time at Piccadilly's Tea Room. It has a wonderful atmosphere of Victorian decor and cute gifts. They have an excellent chef that prepared a very flavorful lunch that I enjoyed greatly. I can't tell you my favorite, because it was all so delicious. I would highly recommend it. I plan on going back again and again, with more of my friends and family. It makes for a great ladies afternoon tea outing, and for the whole family too. Very comfortable, elegant and affordable. Especially with the economy today, you can't go wrong here. So all the guys out there, take your special lady for a marvelous treat they will love. Hope to see y'all there.

Sad to say our experience was not so pleasant. Although there were only two small groups in the tea room, our service was extremely slow. We were never offerred a refill on teas. The air conditioning was broken and we had to request additional ice and water several times and then a mandatory tip was added for the poor service. One of the poorest team rooms I've visited.

This was my third visit to the Picadilly and each visit has been delightful. The food is always delicious and the service top notch. The amazing thing is how filling a tea they provide. More than enough sandwiches and savories for everyone, plus you get the most delicious scones--best I have ever tasted--and a sherbet at the end!!! I love this tearoom and recommend it highly to everyone.

My Red Hat group of about 10 had reserved our table. When we arrived, they tried to seat us at separate tables. Most of our teas, though different flavors, tasted the same. It also took quite a bit of time to arrive.

I have just returned from a really delightful afternoon tea experience. My friend and I go to tea religiously once a month. This was tea # 42, and the around the 38th place that we have had tea. We both agreed that this was the best yet, and we have been to some really good ones. The variety of teas offered, the presentation, and the food were all top quality. We recommend it highly.

Very upscale and just beautifully decorated. Actually the most beautiful tearoom I've ever  been to on either side of the Atlantic. The owner has more than enough knowledge about tea and tea history. The food which is prepared in the on-site kitchen was the perfect temperature, plated nicely and very, very good.

In March of 2007, we held my mother-in-law's bridal shower here. I was pregnant and thought I should eat a little something before I went because I had always heard the food was light and I was always hungry. NOT TRUE! The food was not only phenomenal, but also very filling. I am also a picky eatter, but again, I ate everything that was served. I enjoyed a decaf. tea that was delicious. Everyone who attended the tea, was impressed. The cost was very reasonable and the owner was willing to customize the menu to our needs. I would highly recommend this tea room and would love to go back very soon. Another great aspect of this tea room is the different rooms. We felt like we were the only ones there, yet the place was packed. The service is impecable and the ambiance was very relaxing. I can't say enough good things about this place.

A friend and I went for the afternoon tea. Delightfull old country inn with separate seating rooms of different sizes. A large bridal party came in about half way through our visit and you couldn't tell there was a crowd. The tea was brewed in the kitchen and arrived already strained in the teapot. I had two pots of tea, Famous Formosa with the first course of lemon scone and pasta salad and Earl Grey de la Creme with the second course of 4 finger sandwiches - egg salad, chicken salad, tomato and cheese, toasted gorgonzola bread, slices of fruit and 3 desserts. Everything was wonderful, just enough. My friend & I are touring the tearooms in Maryland. The tea shop is wonderful too, We're heading back for another tea and to do some Christmas shopping in the fall. The teas served in the tea room are availible for purchase.

I have been to many places for tea and this was very disappointing. We were seated near the only bathroom and had a constant line of women standing by our table. The food was mediocre at best, very skimpy, one tiny scone the size of a half dollar, one cookie, one brownie and one tart each the size of a quarter (burnt on the bottom, a few small slices of fruit, half a strawberry, a small dish of cold soup that appeared to be applesauce thinned with apricot nectar and 3 teeny tiny sandwich quarters with barely any filling. Not much for $20 a person. I was extremely disappointed but my granddaughter asked me not to complain so I didn't, but I won't be going back.

Overall, a wonderful experience. I went with my sister in law and best friend for "Royal Tea" and we all had a wonderful time. The teas, the food, and the ambiance all contributed to a nice cozy afternoon, which is exactly what we were looking for. The server was very attentive and answered our questions, like what exactly is "clotted cream?", lol! A very nice, quiet quaint location and experience. I would recommend it very much.

I was very disappointed in my visit to Gypsy's Tea Room. We had gone for the purpose of celebrating my mother's 75th birthday. I had been told that for a birthday something special would be included with the tea. Perhaps a cake? As a matter of fact, I would have at least expected that my mother would have been served first. She wasn't. She was always last. There was nothing special to commemorate the birthday. I had also been told that at the time we visited, Gypsy's would be decorated for Christmas. They were still in the process of decorating around the customers. I found the food to be average and the service extremely poor. I had to ask for more tea when and if I could find the hostess.
Gypsy's is one of the more expensive tea rooms in the area. I came away deeply disappointed and regretting spending the money I had just spent. I wish I had had the good sense to return to one of the other tea rooms that we had enjoyed in the past. Not to mention that I felt my mother's birthday had been spoiled.

As a regular at this particular tea shop, I believe I can give a balanced idea of the quality of this tea room. It is located in a 1740s home that was once a bed and breakfast, and the ambiance is wonderful, with much of the elegant decor done by the owner and her daughter. My experiences at this tea room range from fair to excellent, with the majority being excellent. The tea selection has expanded dramatically in the past year to include many varieties of teas, mostly loose leaf now. They also include red teas, pearl teas, bubble tea, and many herbals as well. My favorite there is the house blend, a decaf loose black tea with raspberry and vanilla ... perfectly cozy on a cold or rainy day! The service is excellent with few disappointments, 'though sometimes waitresses are very busy. The tea pots are "bottomless" and the owner is a real pro to work with, giving many special theme teas throughout the year, both indoors and out. There is also a fantastic gift shop in the upper level of the historic home. I can always count on a comforting cup of tea and warm scones when I drop by after a busy morning of errands or shopping.

Visiting Gypsy's Tea Room with my 11-year old granddaughter, Kara, was such a lovely experience for both of us. The lady who took my reservation (Jo) made suggestions for Kara's tea sandwiches and scone, and Kara enjoyed everything, including the potato soup. Our afternoon tea couldn't have been more delightful.

As a local, I often frequent this tea room, and always enjoy it. Though it isn't your typical Victoriana type or English type tea room, the owner is a super English lady who makes everything fresh right there, and who serves the best bagged teas from England. She also carries English tea staples that are difficult to find here in the States.
This tea room is located in a full-service spa in the Town Mall of Westminster. So although the atmosphere is busy and more urban than most tea rooms, I have always enjoyed my times there, and you can have any beauty service done and have tea while you wait! I've had tea and scones, breakfast, brunch, and lunch there, and have never been disappointed. The menu includes a traditional English "Ploughman's lunch" (meats and cheeses and pickles, etc., soup and entrée of the day (homemade/from scratch ... her veggie lasagna is to die for!), various light sandwiches, salads, breakfast, and traditional English style teas ... Cornish, afternoon, and Westminster High Tea.

I have been several times to Tea by the Sea and each time has been wonderful. The food is fresh and beautifully presented. They have a large selection of regular and decaffeinated teas, as well as a seasonal tea selection. The scones are out of this world. The high [sic] tea comes with a soup and salad that is unbelievable. Go hungry. When I travel I love to go to an afternoon tea wherever I am. This includes NYC and Washington, DC. I was shocked and happily surprised to learn the best (only one equally wonderful, a Japanese tea in NYC) was in my home town Berlin, MD.
