Amma's
Tearoom and Gift Shop,
Gimli, MB
Visited:
August, 2008. Meal: Afternoon tea. Type of tea: Loose leaf.
Served:
In a teapot.
Tea: Excellent. Food: Excellent. Service:
Excellent. Appearance: Excellent.
Comments: My wife and I go to Amma's several times a
summer, and are sure to take any visitors we have to our
cottage there for tea and dessert. The food is always fantastic,
and the service freindly and quick. The room is decorated in a
comfortable tea motif that is inovative and well done. I'm a bit
fussy about my tea (being from English stock) and never order
tea outside my own kitchen...Amma's is definetly an exception.
A trip to Gimli just isn't complete without a cup of tea and
Saskatoon berry pie at Amma's.
Would you go back? Yes, can't wait!

Comments: We go to gimli every weekend to our cabin, this
past weekend it was cold and raining and decided to go for
tea and dessert, the place was packed! it was 2:30 and full. I had
the saskatoon pie, which was homemade (almost as good as
my grandmothers) and my husband had the chocolate cake
(way to much!!) but he ate it all. :)

Comments: Amma's tearoom is a beautifully
decorated, Victorian style tea room. The customers
may use their choice of fine bone china tea cup, or
simply use the one set at the table (this, in itself, is
reminiscent of vising my Amma, where I could choose a
tea cup for tea with her). The menu is full of wonderful
food, and has some special Icelandic sweets that keep
my friends and I coming back again and again. The staff
is more than helpful, and the giftroom has plenty of
whimsical items that are sure to please everyone. Amma's also generously gives free
samples of tea to take home and try, since the many varieties that are
served are difficult to chose from. I love this place, from
the soft music played, to the tastey treats, to the
delicious tea and lovely surroundings.
Would you go back? Yes, can't wait!

Comments: The tea was not made with boiling water.
The food was tasteless. My daughter had egg salad sandwich, which she found tasteless and dry she only
had a couple of bites, she was not offered any thing
else. I had a Philly Beef sandwich which was very tasteless and made with slabs of dry beef instead of
thinly sliced beef. for two cups of tea two cups of soup 2
sandwiches and 1 bowl of soup we paid 35.00. The prices were outrageous and when we questioned the
prices and the fact that my daughter did not eat her
sandwich we were told it was served so what could he
do about it. I will never go there again and I will tell
others to save their money and their time.
Would you go back? Sorry, no.

This was a very elegant. They had twenty-three types
of teas available. I had their Lemon Meringue Torte.
It was so good. The service was friendly and attentive.
If you are even close to the neighborhood you have got to stop in!

Comments: I took my mom here for her birthday.
The service was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The
location is beautiful overlooking the river in a breathtaking yard. The restaurant inside a historical
house makes it all the more special. Very quaint and
cozy. The ambiance is relaxing. We had a very delightful lunch of homemade soup (the best potato
soup Ive ever had) and very generous sandwiches on
delicious thick sliced bread. We each had dessert, and
shared the generous portions of amazing bread pudding
and caramel sauce MMMMMMMM, as well as a chocolate cheesecake that melted in our mouths.
When the server found out it was my mom's birthday, they
even went as far as to put a sparkler on the dessert.
What a nice touch! Our tea was served in a china teapot, with a tea cozy and in china cups, which made
us feel very pampered.
Would you go back? Yes, can't wait!

Comments: My husband and I went to this teahouse
after hearing so much about it. The gift shop is huge
and has many unique items. We stopped in for lunch,
and were the only people in the tea room at 1:00.
Hmmm ... perhaps there is a reason why. We each had
tea to start. Tea is served from a teapot in mugs that
you would use for coffee. The tables that are against the
window are very drafty and overlook the parking lot, not
alot to see there. We each ordered the soup and sandwich for lunch. My husband had an egg salad,
served on thin slices of bread, no lettuce. I had a
chicken salad, which was canned chicken, not the best
tasting sandwich. We each had soup which was adequate.
My husband ordered pie for dessert, it most likely came from the local Safeway, not much flavour
and dry. I had a scone, which was very chewy and could possibly been also purchased, not made on
premises. The nice touch that made the scone bearable
was the devonshire cream, which is imported and tasty.
Would you go back? Sorry, no.
