Windsor
Court Hotel, Le Salon Tea Room, New Orleans,
LA
Visited:
February, 2003
Meal: Afternoon tea. Type of tea: Loose leaf. Served: In a teapot.
Tea: Excellent. Food: Excellent. Service:
Excellent. Appearance: Excellent.
Comments: While other tea venues in New
Orleans do exist, such as the beautiful Ritz
Carlton (check their website for info), Windsor
Court's Le Salon seems to be the most well known
and recommended and after this visit, one
understands why!
Tea is served on Wedgwood Wild Strawberry china in
a beautifully decorated salon overlooking the
hotel's fountain courtyard. A harpist plays
unobtrusively across the room, and instead of
providing teapots, the tea hostess quietly
circulates among the tables, refilling your cup
just at the right moment. The tea menu itself is
quite extensive and is worth saving. Sandwiches
include curried turkey, salmon, egg salad, and
cucumber. Two very sweet scones follow, one
walnut, one currant. We were impressed by the
quartet of toppings that accompanied the scones:
real Devonshire cream (like that served at the
Pump Room in Bath, England), lemon curd, raspberry
jam, and a light vanilla whipped cream. Dessert is
chocolate covered strawberries, lemon cake,
truffles, and more.
The tea room is located just off the French
Quarter, walking distance to the Wyndham Canal
Place, Canal Street, Harrah's, the Aquarium of the
Americas, and the Riverfront shops. It makes a
relaxing respite in the middle of the day, but
don't forget to make reservations ahead of time!
They have a few different seating times as well as
tea services.

Tea: Excellent. Food: Excellent. Service:

Comments: Windsor Court Tea Room provides
several tea time options with varied menus and
prices depending upon customer personal
preference. For instance, you can have just tea
and cakes, cookies, scones; or you may choose tea
with scones, cakes, cookies, sandwiches, chocolate
dipped strawberries and elegant candies; or the
deluxe tea including liqueur cordials and/or a
glass of sherry or other liquor. Cool drinks such
as lemonade and juices are also available.
Terrific tea time atmosphere with beautiful
antique furniture, carpets, and art work. Live
pianist, harp player, or string ensemble. Servers
are extremely professional and personable. Weekend
tea? Reservations recommended. They do draw a lot
of customers. Great for booking bridal showers,
ladies' group club meetings, etc. Valet parking in
the beautiful hotel courtyard. I've been to the
Windsor Court Tea Room on several occasions
throughout the years and never experienced a
disappointment.

Glenwood
Village Tea Room, Shreveport, LA
Visited:
April, 2007. Reviewed: May, 2007.
Meal: Afternoon tea. Type of tea: Loose leaf. Served: In a teapot.
Tea: Excellent. Food: Excellent.
Service: Fair. Appearance: Good.
Comments: We enjoyed the soups and sanwiches but
felt cleanliness was lacking. Our sugar bowl was disgusting with caked on food all over it. The tea was
wonderful but only had two selections. Waitress dissapeared and we finally had to go ask the cashier for
service and a new sugar bowl.
Would you go back? Sorry, no.

Comments: It is a tradition any time my daughter and
granddaughter are in town, we have tea that The Glenwood Tearoom. The owner and the staff know us
and they are all exceptional in their service and the food
and tea are divine. the Tearoom is also a store for
antiques and of course there are many teapots and tea
cups and saucers along with all types of tea. They serve
hot and cold teas as well. It is a fun place to go and
have lunch or just a cup of tea with friends and family. If
you come to Shreveport don't miss out on going by The
Glenwood Tearoom!

Comments: My first visit to Glenwood Tea
Room was so wonderful that I've decided to take my
mother and grandmother there for full afternoon
tea as a Christmas gift this year. I've already
made reservations. As my friend and I entered the
establishment, we were greeted as if we were old
friends. We were led to our table which was
covered with an old quilt and flanked by
delightfully mismatched chairs. Our server was
cheerful, helpful, and precise. The PG Tips black
tea was perfectly brewed and just the right
temperature in its precious little pink teapot. I
was thrilled to find that I could purchase some to
take home with me. The Victorian Soup was the best
soup I've ever tasted, and the finger sandwiches
were great. By the time the scones with Devonshire
cream and lemon curd arrived I thought I was too
stuffed to even try it, but one taste and I was
hooked again. So I gobbled down almost the entire
flower-shaped "cat-head" sized biscuit
and actually scraped the sides of the lemon curd
dish because I couldn't bear to think of letting
any of it go to waste. Everything about this place
is simply superb. I will be back again and again.

Comments: No one should visit or live in
Shreveport, Louisiana, without making at least one
trip to the Glenwood Tea Room. As a resident of
Shreveport, I eat lunch there at least once a
week. The food is gourmet, the service is friendly
and punctual, and the atmosphere is comfortable
and attractive. In fact, after having lunch there,
I feel as though I have made a quick trip to a tea
room in England. Though iced tea, a Southern
tradition, is always available, I enjoy the cream
tea. In fact, I seldom drink less than two pots at
one sitting. It is a place that I come to have a
relaxing lunch and a place to bring visitors.

Comments: In September and October of
last year, I had the pleasure of dining at the
Glenwood Village Tearoom in Shreveport, LA. The
outside of this drugstore-turned-antique shop and
tearoom is unassuming, but the inside is charming.
The shop features antiques, as well as beautiful
tea items, clothing, and gifts. Entering this
small tearoom is like stepping back in time, with
a cozy atmosphere and beautifully laid tables. I
tried the 'sconewich,' a large cheese scone with
the tearoom’s signature chicken chutney pecan
salad. This was quite delicious, as were the
homemade pickles. My older children were delighted
with the roast beef sandwiches with tarragon cream
cheese. On subsequent visits, we also sampled the
chicken casserole served with raspberry
vinaigrette salad, which was excellent. The soups
and desserts are also very good. We found the
servers to be cheerful and attentive, the prices
competitive, and the servings generous. Although a
separate children’s menu is not available, my
five year old was accommodated as well. After
reviewing the menu kindly sent to me by Ms.
McCullar, I am ready to visit again! This tearoom
is a must for the Shreveport/Bossier area. Box
lunches, afternoon tea, and catering are also
available.
