Comments: The property was built in the mid 1800's
and has all the charm of an antebellum residence. The
new owners run a bed and breakfast here and also have
a restaurant and wine bar. They have just begun to offer
afternoon teas. My guests and I were served tea in one
of the main dining rooms. It was elegantly decorated
with beautiful fabrics and floral arrangements. A large
selection of teas was offered and each guest had their
own teapot placed on a heated warmer. Sweets and savories were provided,
followed by strawberry sorbet and dessert. The food was not only delicious, but very
filling as well. The service was also exceptional. The
teas served were available for purchase. The owner also
informed us it is possible to request an outdoor tea on
the patio, weather permitting. I can't wait to return and
experience another pleasurable afternoon. I have had
tea at several establishments in Louisville and California
and this is definitely one of my favorites! Do try it!

Comments: I enjoy going to tearooms, and appreciate
the uniqueness of each. However, I do have certain
expectations. I expect that my server, though new, will
have had SOME sort of training in serving tea. I do NOT
expect to have to wait over 30 minutes for my first pot of
tea when I have a reservation. The scones were large
and good, but the one small pat of butter - no
cream, jam, etc .- they were served with was not sufficient.
When I asked for more, it was frozen. The rest of the
food was merely acceptable. The cubed sugar on the
table had no serving tongs. When brought to the server's
attention, the tongs brought out belonged in a kitchen,
not in a tearoom! I understand this is a new venture, and
want ALL tearooms to be successful (there can never
be too many opportunities to enjoy tea, right?!). However,
there was a decided lack of interest from the management regarding our concerns. The room the tea
was served in was really lovely.

Comments: The afternoon of our tea was prior to a
snowstorm. People were frantically cancelling appointments and rushing to get home. Susan and the
people at the tea room continued to be gracious and made my friend and I feel warm and
insulated from all the outside hubbub. The server knew when to serve --
when to talk, instruct, replenish. The soup (tomato
basil) was creamy and delicious and I had many "favorite" sweets and
savories. The dessert was a scumptious brownie/ice cream concoction. All was
served on lovely depression glass, another favorite of
mine. As it began to snow, we spent another half hour
in the extensive gift shop, chatting with Susan, and
purchasing enough to make her afternoon tea with just
the two of us worthwhile, I hope. I felt a tiny bit
guilty having kept them at the tearoom while the streets
collected slippery snow, but the experience was enjoyable.

Candleberry
Tea Room,
Frankfort, KY
Visited: August, 2009.
Meal: Afternoon tea. Type of tea: Teabags. Served: In a teapot.
Tea: Fair. Food: Average. Service:
Fair. Appearance: Excellent.
Comments: I was very excited to try the afternoon tea at
Candleberry's as they offer a good lunch. Unfortunately, their
tea service was not the same quality as their lunch. Whether
you are a party of 1 or 6; you will only get two teapots of tea.
The overfilled teabags were left in the teapots making the tea
terribly bitter. We were supplied with another properly made pot
of tea. Because of this mishap our table basically received one
pot of tea to share. Instead of receiving a scone, we received
something that resembled a cookie. It was delicious but tasted
nothing like a scone. The savories were good quality just
like the sandwiches served during the restaurants lunch service.
The mini pastries were good but lacked originality. We received
grocery store éclairs, 7 layer bars and lemon bars. They were
decent tasting but somewhat disappointing. The restaurant
adds on a 20% tip whether or not the server lives up to the
service. The cost per person is $24.11 with tax and tip.

Comments: I recently attended afternoon tea at
Candleberry with my mother and sister. I had been before, and was
very impressed, but my last experience left a little something to be desired. We were seated
next to a larger party of 8-10 guests, even though the
rest of the tea shop was empty. As more patrons entered, they were seated in the
same area. Consequently, we all had to talk fairly loud to be heard
over the din. There appeared to be only one waitress on
staff, and she seemed to linger an unnecessarily long
time at the table of the larger group, though she was
quite charming and kind when she made her way to us.
They didn't have that many varieties of tea, 8-10, and
were out of the one I ordered. The scone was delicious,
but very small, and came with fruit in it - not a big hit for
one of my group who prefers hers plain. No clotted
cream accompanied the scone (one of my pet peeves)
and when we requested it, we were brought a dish of
commercial whipped cream. The soup course was very
good - a rich, tomato basil. In my opinion, that was the
highlight of the tea. The selections on the three-tiered
sandwich tray were good, but unremarkable, save for
strawberries that were filled with a sweet white cream.
There was a wide selection of desserts, but the dessert
portion that comes with the tea is much smaller than
the one that you get when you order dessert on its own.
The tea, I thought, was overpriced at almost $19, and it
seemed that the gratuity was automatically added in,
even for a party of only 3, which is something I find
irksome. I like to be able to tip according to what I feel
the service deserves and, when it comes to going to
tea, service is paramount. Another thing that kind of
irked me was that the teapots for our table weren't kept
-at- our table. For the most part, we had to rely on our
waitress to pour. It would have been a nice touch had
she always been right nearby with a refill, but as it was,
it was a little frustrating. All in all, I've had better teas,
and better teas at Candleberry in particular... another in
my party, who is a more frequent customer than I am,
agreed with that assessment. I would go back, because
the atmosphere is quite nice, but I wouldn't go back for
tea. I didn't think that $19 per person, before tax and tip,
was a fair price for what we were given, but their
sandwich prices are probably more reasonable and a
better value.
Would you go back? Maybe.

There was only one selection of black tea offered and
when we each asked for green tea, they told us that we
would have to share one small pot as that was all they
had. The green tea that they served us was not actually
green tea, but tasted very much like lapsang
souchong. So if you are a tea afficionado, you may be disappointed
at the tea selection. Go for the food though, the tea

Comments: There are both traditional
elements, as well as unique features, that
characterize Greentree's tea service. On the
traditional side, Greentree offers tea service in
a lovingly restored bungalow-style house from the
early 1900's, and set in historic downtown
Lexington. Tables are beautifully set with linens
and china, and tea is poured from silver teapots.
There are several courses of food offered during
tea, and it's all quite delicious. What is unique
is its offering of only one tea selection for all
guests. During my visit, Darjeeling was the tea du
jour. Additionally, no individual teapot is set at
your table. Instead, a waiter circulates with a
silver teapot to fill empty teacups. Teatime is
offered during two seatings, at either 3 o'clock
or ... nontraditionally ... at noon. The first 2
courses are served to you at your table (a
heavenly fruit soup and quiche, followed by a
well-made scone with cream and jam). But then you
must serve yourself for the final courses of tea
sandwiches and pastries from a centrally-located
buffet table. Overall, the emphasis is on the food
and the setting....not the tea. However, within
its unique venue, Greentree offers a very pleasant
experience.
Would you go back? Hope so, but we don't

Comments: The Greentree has created a
lovely use for a historic downtown Lexington home.
The shop combines a classy and elegant tea room
with a fine china store. The tea selection was not
nearly as impressive as I expected, but the food
options were lovely. The menu has been changing
monthly I believe, and everything I had and
everything I've heard about since sounds
wonderful. For example, the tea shop had a St.
Patrick's Day theme in March with Irish soda
bread. Greentree is the kind of place I wish I
could go monthly. It is leisurely and not
inexpensive. However, it is a lovely treat and the
perfect light lunch. The silverware and china are
particularly impressive.

Tea Da, Louisville, KY

Tea: Excellent. Food: Excellent. Service:
Excellent. Appearance: Excellent.
Comments: This is may favorite tea service of all I have tried.
The venue is elegant yet cozy, and very comfortable. The food
is very delicious and the monthly variety to the menu keeps me
coming back. The tea is poured as frequently as one requests
with a minimum of five loose tea options at each service. I love
visiting La Tea Da!!
Would you go back? Yes, can't wait!

Comments: This tea room is located inside of a
high-end shop and is a little secret unknown to many
Louisville folks. They offer a new menu every month and
a selection of 5 different teas from Elmwood or White
Linen Tea Co. that change monthly. Afternoon Tea comes with soup course, scone and
curde/cream course, savory (3 types) and sweet (2 types) tray, and
dessert. The room is small but tastefully decorated.
When it is full, it can get a bit loud but not so loud that
you cannot enjoy the company at your table. I have
been to several teas here and each time I bring a new
friend, La Tea Da gets a new regular. The servers pour
individual cups of tea rather than leaving a pot at the
table (they will if you ask) and that they do not sell any
of the tea that is served. I have heard rumors of expansion in the near future which I hope are true. La
Tea Da has the potential to be a top notch establishment if given some elbow room.
Would you go back? Yes, can't wait!

Comments: I have been twice to the Butterfly Garden
Cafe, once with family for Mother's Day and then again
for lunch during the week. Both times the food and
dessert was out of this world, and the tea was delicious.
(I've had vanilla and ginger peach). They have some very
unique items on their lunch menu, so I can't wait to go

Comments: This venue is not really a tea room. The tea
selection was extremely limited and the menu was small. The atmosphere was somewhat cramped and my
companion kept bumping into a neon (I think) sign hanging next to her. Our table was also lopsided and
kept jostling back and forth. The service was prompt but
not particularly friendly. In my opinion, this place tries to
be a tea room and a cafe and does neither outstandingly well. I'd heard good things about it as a
tea room, so maybe it should go back to that. Louisville
needs more good tea rooms!

Comments: Was disapointed in the tea offered. 2 black
and 2 herbal were the choices. After seeing the extensive tea's offered in the gift shop we were surprised
at this. They are moving to the house next door and will
not be doing tea's as many days. The food was good,
though 2nd pot of tea was weak and we felt hurried
because of another groug that was coming. The gift

Comments: This is a darling tea shop with
a wide selection of teas and accoutrements. An
afternoon tea is offered on Fridays -- I had the
cream tea. There were four in our party and we
each had a different type of tea and two scones
each. Price was $7.00 each and well worth
it. The tea was freshly prepared and the scones
were baked after ordering. Definitely a shop I
will continue to visit whenever I am in
Louisville.

celebrate my mom's 60th birthday. We live in Evansville and there is nothing else within a 2 hour
drive that is like this! The food is all homemade and
the menu changes monthly. I normally don't like "fancy
food" but this was delicious!!! Each month has a theme. The atmosphere is wonderful. Much time has
gone into decorating this place. It is fun to "dress
up" with the SYNTHETIC furs/hats that are available. The
staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. We even got a
tour! There is a gift shop as well. Miss Daisy's is well
worth it. It helped make my mom's birthday special
and we plan on going back frequently. Everyone should
take the chance to visit Miss Daisy's.

Comments: Going to Gracefully Yours was like taking
a mini-vacation. The victorian decor and ambiance
were the perfect backdrop for this excellent tea experience.
The owner/hosts were positive, warm and charming.
As for the food, honestly, it was difficult to choose what our
favorite item was because each of them were sumptuous, both savories and sweets. Their tea list
read like a wine list with very descriptive information on
each selection. Even though the tearoom welcomes you
to try many different varieties of tea as part of high
[sic] tea, it would take many visits to try them all. I
encourage you strongly to do just that. As an added
bonus, their gift shop tempts you with a wonderful
assortment of items. Personally, I chose a bracelet with
three charms - a teapot, a teacup & spoon, and a heart,
plus a bag of a new favorite tea. Hands down, it is the
best tea room that I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy!
You have to go there!

Comments: This place is a gem in Central Kentucky!
Good food, excellent service, and warm and friendly atmosphere. The tearoom itself is absolutely charming, and the owner went out of her way to make sure we had a wonderful tea experience. Very accommodating in terms of menu. The tearoom offers lunches as well as afternoon tea (by reservation). We were fortunate enough to have a private room all to ourselves, and felt completely pampered by the excellent service and delightful cuisine.
Only a short distance from Lexington, The Colonel's Lady is well worth the drive. It exceeded our expectations! Highly recommend a visit.

tearoom! My sister and I treated ourselves to tea there this past
Friday and had a wonderful, relaxing experience. The tea was
perfectly brewed and cheerfully refilled before we could even

the day. Although the tearoom was bustling when we arrived
