From the quiches with the flaky crusts that melt in your mouth to the mouth-watering desserts, Robert takes special care to make sure everything is as it should be. I can only echo Nathan's praise in the previous review. In addition to the tearoom, there is a gift shop with lovely offerings. One may also pick up a FREE book or two that has been left there per BookCrossing's Read and Release program. Next time you are in the area, drop in, order a pot of tea, something delicious to go with it, and relax. It is a great place to be!

"A Token of Friendship" is a lovely nook of a tearoom nestled in downtown Chesterton. The brick masonry walls, covered with interesting paintings from local artists, give it a homey and rustic feel. Robert, the owner, goes out of his way to make each guest feel welcome. Service is excellent, and their menu, while limited in quantity, excels in quality. There's always an intriguing array of desserts to entice even the most ardent dieter from their discipline. Be sure to ask Robert for tea recommendations, as he is highly knowledgeable about his products. My recent visit was my 4th this year. If I lived a little closer, the number of my visits would probably double or treble.

Tea Room at the Columbus Inn B&B, Columbus, IN

Tea: Excellent.  Food: Excellent. Service: Excellent.  Appearance: Excellent.
Comments:
I visited this tea room in late August with my husband. We had made reservations for an afternoon tea. There were several kinds of finger sandwiches, scones, and a lovely selection of miniature desserts. The food was delicious and plentiful and the tea was excellent. The owner certainly knows his tea and was very helpful to us when making our selections. During the course of our afternoon tea we tried three different types of tea and enjoyed them all. We also enjoyed chatting with the owner for a brief time.
The cost of the afternoon tea was $14.95 pp plus an additional $3.00 pp for a scone with cream and jam. We thought it was a very good value and will return again soon.

The Tea Room at the Columbus Inn B&B is a very enjoyable experience. Lalith Paranavatana certainly knows his tea, and knows how to serve it with style! This is the only authentic tea service in Indiana. The tea room itself is comfortable and quaint. There is a nice retail section which includes wonderful teas micro-blended by Lalith. There is also a very interesting tea display set up with photographs and information about tea.
I had a delicious scone with jam and cream; a tray of at least seven assorted finger sandwiches (all homemade and prepared by Lalith); a platter of small assorted desserts and tea breads; and a pot of tea. Everything was wonderful, and servings were ample.
I loved the tea itself! Lalith suggested I begin with his Zhen Mei green tea. It was perfectly prepared (Lalith, a former tea estate manager from Sri Lanka, obviously knows how to make a good pot of tea!), smooth and refreshing. Nibbling through the tea platter, I eventually ordered a second pot of tea, this time opting for a Ceylon, Lalith's specialty. I wasn't disappointed. You won't find a better Ceylon ~ whether it be his Dayagama West Estate FBOP, St. Clair Estate FBOP, or Adawatte Estate Pekoe ~ anywhere.
The prices of Afternoon Tea are reasonable and a bargain, ranging from $7.95 to $10.95. Do yourself a favor and visit Lalith and his tea room. I promise you that his genuine warmth and hospitality will be just your cup of tea!

This is exactly what I was looking for. A real tea room, not a restaurant that sells tea with soup and salad. We got the high [sic] tea, and opted for iced tea since it was so hot out. I being off caffeine chose the peach-apple tisane, although the variety there was staggering. Plus you could buy the tea right there for later if you chose to. The taste was wonderful, not like the bag teas in the store, it was refreshing and the taste lingered on the tongue. The sandwiches were delicate and plenty. And then the dessert, five different kinds each for two. The owner was a wonderful man, who is keeping the place traditional, versus trendy. I really recommend this place; it is in a beautiful B&B built in the 1800s and in a nice town. I'm glad I stopped in I will be back there again.

My kids and I really miss the former site. It had inside intimate seating where you could get away from the mall noise and traffic and visit. Seating at the new site is stuck out in the open. The store itself is smaller and more cramped. New isn't always better.

Shop has moved to different location within the mall and teas are now in same room as coffee. Loose leaf teas are in non-airtight glass jars. But teas are good when fresh. Good variety of prepackaged teas. Nice seating area outside of store, within mall.

Very extensive inventory of teas. Our Daily Brew also has an adjacent coffee shop, but the tea shop is contained, so you don't have coffee smells invading. The owners are very knowledgeable and willing to help find what you're looking for.

Over all, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this tea room. The historic home, in itself, is worth a visit. We were delighted to find an interesting, somewhat upscale menu and were pleasantly surprised to be told it changes monthly. The food was beautifully presented although, my husband would have liked it served a little hotter. Our biggest dissapointment was the tea itself. We were served a tea bag with tepid water. We expected a pot of brewed loose tea. We were, however, pleased to see a nice variety of teas from which to choose and an offering of decaf flavors as well.

Tea: Good.  Food: Poor. Service: Poor.  Appearance: Poor.
Comments:
WOW! I thought the afternoon tea would be a delightful experience, but I was wrong! For an upscale hotel, this afternoon tea was very disappointing. There was only 1 choice of tea (it was good) The service was so-so, but not what you would expect for a nice tea. Food was not the best. The seating was awkard & uncomfortable because we sat at a coffee table & loveseat which was actually in the lobby area with alot of foot traffic. Even though the tea was good, I would not recommend this afternoon tea.

We were seated in their "atrium" it was a hall past hostess podiem. It was a love seat or two captains chairs with a coffee table in center. The seat of chairs were taller than top of c. table. We only had 2 types of sandwiches not 4 as stated on menu. The mango tea was from teapot it had no indication of loose tea in my cup. People were going through our hall going upstairs to their rooms. The whip. cream with scones was cold. It fell in a lump onto my plate. It should have been spreadable. Four other people on other side of hall also looked a little puzzled as they sat down. You had to lean in to eat every bite. I had been to several tearooms and have always sat at a table.

Comments:
The Canterbury Hotel does many things very well, but the overall tea experience it offered to me and two of my friends was a failure. There were bright moments--the Earl Grey tea, for example, was delicious. However, our server seldom refilled our cups, and at one point peremptorily switched us to a blended tea that was less satisfactory. The "alcove" of the lobby that served as a tea room was elegant, but also roped off from the main lobby in a way that forced any tea drinker visiting the powder room to either wrestle with the heavy rope latch, or to simply jump the rope in a rather undignified fashion. The sandwiches were above-average, as were the petit fours. However, the scones (which should have been the main event) were completely uncooked in the middle. Even more dissappointing was the reaction of our server when we pointed out this deficiency. He took the tray, including our three opened but uneaten scones away, and brought it back a half hour later with a curt "I hope these are good enough for you." They were they same scones, minus the three opened ones, but now they were black on the outside and still raw on the inside. It took us another twenty minutes to catch the eye of Cedric, our server (and by this time we had formed a definate suspicion that he was deliberately ignoring us. Our water glasses were never once refilled, nor was our milk.) We pointed out the continued and worsening faults of the scones, and he simply removed them without appology. Then he charged us full price, forcing me to gently but firmly insist that he rethink the bill in light of the quality of food we recieved. I refrained from  asking him to also consider the quality of the service as he retallied our charge, although I was sorely tempted. Of course, ending the tea on a squabble about the bill with a deliberately rude and inattentive waiter firmly erradicated any feeling of peace and relaxation that the tea might otherwise have given us.
Would you go back? Sorry, no.

Comments:
The Canterbury Hotel is the only hotel I know of in Indianapolis that serves high [sic] tea (although if there are others, I'd love to know of them!)
We had our tea in an area that appeared to also serve as an extension of the lobby/common area. Above us was a balcony, and next to our table was a piano where the concièrge serves double duty as a pianist during tea hours (4pm to approximately 5.30pm most days). The location was very pretty but a bit distracting, as the hotel's guests had to pass our way to reach the elevator.
Only two teas were offered, but the Earl Grey was wonderful. Almost immediately after we were seated a tiered tray with finger sandwiches (four varieties), petit fours, and raspberry tarts were placed on our table. The service was very attentive.
The food selection and offerings were okay, but nothing was really outstanding except for the scones. They were served last, piping hot from the oven, with whipped cream and two kinds of preserves. On this day pecan scones were served -- they were so buttery and crisp that they were almost like hot scoops of shortbread.
Overall I would highly recommend this location for tea, particularly for those who aren't sticklers for the pomp and circumstance that sometimes comes with it.

I very much enjoyed my recent visit to Victoria's Tea Room. It was a very pleasant and relaxing experience. While all the food was very tasty, I especially enjoyed the chicken salad on puff pastry and the frozen fruit salad. My husband also enjoyed his food, but his favorite thing was the chocolate raspberry cake. The food presentation was lovely and the service was excellent. This tea room is located in the back part of an antique store so after having tea it is fun to look around. I will certainly visit again.
