Tea: Excellent. Food: Average. Service:

Comments: The Tea room was very crowded--tables too close
together and the noise level way too high to be a nice afternoon
tea experience. When we asked the waitress for a couple more
small sandwiches we were informed they do not do that---at
$24.00/ea one would think a tiny little sandwich would not hurt
them. They limited our table time and we felt very rushed. It
was not pleasant.

Comments: We were welcomed very nicely to the cozy
waiting area/shop which kept us busy during our short
wait. The ambiance was nice- on the day we went there
was a large party of young girls that were a little noisy, but
the staff kindly reminded them how they were to behave
while having tea. Little girls need to have thier fun too just
like us big girls! The tea was excellent and served in a nice
teapot. The cups were genuine teacups as well although
my cup and saucer weren't a matched pair and this caused
the cup to be little wobbly on the saucer. My quiche tasted
good but was not hot all the way through. The scones we
had were terrible. They were extremely dry and tasteless.
We adore scones and were disapponted with this aspect,
but maybe it was just a fluke as other reviewers commented that they were excellent. Despite the scones,
the tea room is one of the best I have been to out of the
four I have been to in the valley.
Would you go back? Maybe.

Comments: I called to let them know we would be a few minutes
late, and was told, "Let's see when we'll need the table
again." The shop was nicely decorated. We were next to a party of about 15
girls aged 4 - 6 (I was not told this when I made the reservations),
so it was not relaxing. The tea and sandwiches were very good. I
prefer more traditional scones, but my mom liked them. The tart
tasted like the shell may have been frozen, which may explain why
reservations are not required for full tea. As my mom said, it was
akin to “fast-food” tea. The hostess (owner?) - not the server, who
was great - stopped by and said, "Feel free to carry on at least
another half-hour." I have never been to tea and had anyone mention
time at all. It felt as if the next table was more important than we
were. The same hostess did not bring back my ID. My mother went
to ask her and was told insistently that it had been delivered. The
server brought it out a few moments later.
Would you go back? Sorry, no.

possible. I have brought family and friends and all have
loved it thoroughly. All the waitress are delightful and
the owner (Joann) tries to accommodate you even if
you don't have reservation. If you want to come at the

is the cutest and the best place for afternoon tea. For
the money, I like it better than the Phoenician

Comments: The English Rose Tea Room is one of the
ones at the top of my list along with Tea Dreams in
Gilbert and the Phoenician. The English Tea Room knows what they are doing with their sandwiches and
those amazing scones. I mean the scones are amazing, I go there just for the scones. The desserts
definitely need some improvement but that is for most of
the tea rooms in the state. I loved the atmosphere there
at the tea room my only other thing, I would love if I
wasn't having to worry about bumping into the next
table. I do love how flexible they are about scheduling a
full-tea. I called that morning and was in that afternoon, I
did not have to wait 2 days for "afternoon tea". Thank
you English Rose!!

Comments: "Delightful," "Lovely," and "Wonderful" were
the reviews from the party of four of us who enjoyed an
afternoon tea at English Rose for the first time. What
can be said except---the Perfect Tea Experience! The
crowded entry of shopping delights for tea lovers, from
sugar tongs to full tea sets, with many unique finds of
jewelry and other "cutesies" made our short wait before
being seated seem too short! Fortunately, we had a
reservation made over a week in advance, as it was full
this day and has been too full to take last-minute or
day-before reservations twice since then. (If only she
didn't close during the summer heat when it would have
been easier to "drop in" with winter visitors away!)
Dainty sandwiches, loose tea and strainers, shortbread
scones warm from the oven served with jam, Devonshire
cream, and lemon curd, lovely desserts exquisitely
served on plenty of lace and bone china. A superior tea
experience! Following our experience at English Rose,
we strolled through the other Carefree shops in the area
for a fun afternoon.

Comments: One step in the door and you
are whisked away to another land leaving your
troubles behind you. There are more "tea
things" and beautiful accessories than you
have time to look at before you are called back to
take your seating. We sat at the
"Queen's" table, next to us were several
pictures of the Queen of England and her family.
There are hats to choose from to wear if you want
to really go all out, which we did. Delightful to
see friends, generation of families (little girls
with their moms and/or grandmothers) enjoying tea.
Food was delicious and a bounty of selection
to choose from, a tea variety that any tea
house would be proud of. Delightful experience!!

best ever. The pasta was delicious with huge portions! I was so stuffed, I
had to take my dessert home. The chocolate cake and tiramisu
was to die for. The Orange Blossom white tea and Lime green
tea was served in the neatest teapot. The service was beyond
five star. Our waitress was knowledgeable, friendly, courteous,
unobtrusive, and engaging. The owners were so friendly, it was
almost like being with family. I WILL BE BACK!!

Ann's Victorian Tea Room, Glendale, AZ
Visited: February, 2008. Meal: Lunch. Type of tea: Teabags. Served: In
a teapot.
Tea: Average. Food: Poor. Service: Poor.
Appearance: Poor.
Comments: Today I visited Kinberly Ann's tea room for
the first time. What I experienced today was no better
than a fast food drive through. The overall appearance of
the place was lack luster. In other words, my own
kitchen looks cleaner and less cluttered. I was nervous
about trying the food because of the general disrepair of
the restaurant. However, since I was hungry enough, I
decided to try the chicken salad sandwich. Where shall
I begin. The portions were man-sized and tasteless. I
also got to have a bowl of soup and potato chips with
my man meal. I don't know if this is normal for Arizona,
but back east, sticky soup and a bag of chips is what
we expect in the local sub shop, not a Victorian tea
room. The service was about as good as the food. The
young lady who served us, was loud, abrupt and quite
immature. Her dress was unprofessional and I was uncomfortable with the constant appearance of her
bossoms. Very inappropriate.
Would you go back? Sorry, no.

Comments: Seeing some of the reviews, I feel some
expect too much out of family-run tea rooms such as
this. I have been to Kimberly Ann's many times, with
and without my Red Hat chapter. Each time the ambiance, service, and food have been
great. Kimberly, for whom the tea room is named, is charming albeit a
bit direct. Perhaps someone's actions incited Kimberly
to respond in a manner they did not appreciate?
Grandma makes the food, mostly from scratch, and I
have found it to always be delicious. I do wish they had
loose leaf tea, but that's the only downside I see. It's
fine with me to choose flavor of teabag I enjoy. The
homemade scones are fantastic, as are the quiche and
salads. Fun things to look at and perhaps
purchase as well. I love the cozy atmosphere -- a lovely way to
spend time in a charming home in downtown Glendale. I
am personally very satisfied -- and I HAVE been to the
Ritz, the Phoenician, Abbey Gardens, etc. - each has
its own charm.

Comments: I visited Kimberly Ann's while shopping in
the downtown Glendale district. From outward appearance, the
"Victorian" tearoom seemed alright. However, once we walked in, I was very disappointed.
The tearoom was cluttered with knick knacks and very
shabby looking. Besides, the general shabbiness of the
place, you could see kitchen and prep area-not very
"Victorian". I was also put off by the abrupt manner of
the cook and server. Both seemed hurried, put out and
unaccomodating. The food, although is served in extra
large portions, was only fair. Much of it tasted processed, as if it was
not homemade. As for the tea, I was not impressed. I paid a high price for a pot of
lukewarm water and a tea bag that I could've bought
myself at the local grocery store. Overall I was not
impressed with Kimberly Ann's tea room, it's food,
employees, or decor.

Comments: Ack! One reviewer thought the place was
good because they had a great tea bag selection you
can put in a cup to steep your tea! I was not impressed
that this was how this tea house brews tea! Hot water in
pots, steep a bag of tea that I can buy at the local
grocery store in my cup. The food was not that good,
the waitress alluded to some of the pastries being
bought at Costco. My sister thought the chicken salad
made her sick. While the place is cute, it does not
qualify as a Victorian-style tea house. Women on the
west side, drive to Mesa and go to Abbey Gardens. You
will get a good idea what is a proper tea house.

Comments: The tea house seemed adorable, until we
were pointed to walk though the industrial kitchen to a

than one occasion ie. commenting how someone was "snotty" when she was taking care of her allergies.
The food had many flaws, such as: brown lettuce, a
tasteless fresh fruit plate and a less than inspiring bread
pudding. Be aware: regardless of the service rendered,
there is a automatic 20% gratuity added to your total

Comments: Our Red Hat chapter went for an early
lunch today. We were put at the Red Hat table which
we appreciated. At the time we arrived, there were no
other customers. We had seven members including one
six year old pink-hatter. We asked for the Children's
Tea. We were told "No". After a few moments, she finally stated "I have too many I'm already making" and
then walked off. It could have been worded a little more
politely. We had to ask for the child's drink and sandwich after waiting for some time after the others
were served. One person got her drink after she had
finished eating. I was told that I would be brought
something other than lemon curd as I am allergic to
lemons. From reading the other reviews, I'm assuming it
was going to be apple butter. I was never brought anything. We asked for loose tea. We were informed it
was available for purchase but not for drinking. We all
had the feeling that it was inconvenient to serve us. The
food and ambiance were both great but the attitude of all
of the staff left a great deal to be desired. In the future,
we will be going elsewhere for our outings.

Comments: I have often visited Kimberly Ann's for
lunch, taking friend after friend and they return with and
without me. The huge homemade scones (not traditional
shortbread style, I think these have some kind of leavening) are SOOOO great
here, and the homemade apple butter, while not traditional tea fare, is a pleasant
surprise you will return to enjoy. Devonshire cream and
lemon curd are served as well. There is a good selection
of tea bags to steep in your cup of hot water. I always
get one of the (tuna or chicken) salad-filled giant
tomatoes that should really be shared, but if you put
additional dressing only on the parts you eat it keeps
well for lunch the next day!! I haven't attended a
traditional afternoon tea here, partly because I would
want loose tea and teapots instead of teabags and hot
water in the cup, but I phone ordered some of the scones for a baby shower I held because I wanted to
add Kimberly Ann's scones and apple butter to the traditional scones I made. I'm not sure if the proprietor
does take-out often---because she was quite generous
and packaged the order so beautifully---but I recommend that possibility, as well. I believe all food
(except ice cream) is made on premises from fresh ingredients, as I haven't seen anything served that I
recognized as available through the food services I
shop. Antique Glendale Caitlin Court house, decorations
spanning the centuries, great food and dependable service---a great lunch for ladies every time, depend on
it!

Comments: As a Glendale resident, I was thrilled when
the Spicery opened. My daughter's 10th birthday party
was held there, with dress-up and all sorts of fun. I have
visited over thirty times since that 1980s beginning, and
at this last brunch (with a new neighbor) visit I decided
there are better choices in Glendale---choices that want
your business, are happy to greet and serve you, and
have food that didn't come prepared from Costco or
Sysco. It's difficult to understand how such a lovely and
conveniently situated antique home---maintained in
Victorian decor and clean (in all my experiences) since
the opening, I might add---can't find better help and
serve better food to match the quality of the surroundings. It's in a convenient location and you can
always get a reservation, which is why I went there this
last time. The help needs training in cheerfulness,
congeniality, and service, and the kitchen needs to get
an earlier start every day and try to prepare some
original fare. Reasonable pricing means you get your
money's worth, but you don't get the culinary dainties
and quality of food and service you expect from a tea
room. Next time I'll visit one of the OTHER Glendale tea rooms or I just won't go.

were also wonderful. The scone tasted more like a cookie than
a scone, but was delicious even so (I was so looking forward to
a traditional scone, though). The herbal tea selection could
have been more varied (only 2 flavors to choose from), but both
flavors were yummy. I was surprised they only served
one teapot per table (there were two in my party).
Very nice tea services and interior decor. Don't let the strip mall setting throw
you off -- once you're seated it is a different atmosphere. (Don't
look up, though -- the crown moulding and ceiling can use a
little help.) These are only minor quibbles, though. I was SO

like a welcome guest. I do like the food; especially the
chicken fruit and pasta salad and fantastic home made
dinner rolls. The gift shop has a lovely selection of
victorian items. I look forward to going to Gooseberries
as often as possible. The prices are very reasonable;
low enough for me to bring a guest and easily pay for
hers also.

Comments: Well . . . what can I say? Jeffrey Hattrick, the
Afternoon Tea Maitre'D, is the ultimate host and gentleman - he
and his staff make this the special experience that it is. Of
course, the room is elegant, and the tea really is served mostly
on low tables, as it should be for afternoon tea. The china is
elegant, there's wonderful, soft live piano music, and the
appearance, quality and taste of the many offerings is the
BEST. The sweets are always special, created by the Ritz's
pastry chef (often with Jeffrey's help!) I and my fellow Red
Hatters feel most pampered and elegant due to the ambiance
and service at the Ritz. And around the holidays, amid all the
festive and fabulous decorations, you can even be treated to
Jeffrey's renditions of carols with the piano - he is a superb
vocalist as well! They have many special event teas, so
be sure to check with the Ritz to see what's happening.

Comments: The tea house had absolutly no
atmosphere, and the presentention of the food was
not at all pretty. One the the biggest reasons I
love to go to tea, is for the cuteness of the
places, and the Victorian atmosphere. There were
no tableclothes, paper napkins, the table wasn't

ate. The service was extremely slow. Even though
the food was good, it wasn't worth the price
considering there was no atmosphere at all.

Comments: This is a darling little tea
shop in Heritage Square. I discovered it when I
went for a tour of the historical home there. I
have visited it in November of 2001, 2002, and
2003 while in the area for a conference. The décor
and the gift shop are adorable. The service the
first time was excellent, the next two times it
was very uneven -- long lapses in service to the
point of being forgotten, which is a trick in a
tiny shop like this. The food is excellent. I will
try it again.

from trying to make a reservation a week in advance to

Comments: We had three trips to Prescott in
February/March of 2006 and our groups of from three
with a toddler to six of us on one trip stopped in at
Victorian Garden each time. I thought to ask about how
the tea is made, since we don't get strainers but you
can't taste a tea bag. Our server said the loose tea is
steeped and strained in the kitchen before the pot is
served to us, so my earlier review guessing tea bags is
incorrect. The food was (as always) beautiful and delicious. For the first time in memory, we got a repeat
menu item -- the flavors of some of the finger sandwiches, and the most luscious of desserts-a torte.
Most memorable sandwich filling was the apricot and
ham on white crustless bread. I must say, the repeat
was welcome. One day the cold weather spurred me to
order soup instead of salad, and the cream of tomato
soup was exquisite. Each trip we found different flavored
scones featured, and all were lovely and tasty --
with or without the lemon curd and cream! Desserts this month
were even more spectacular than in the past, and the
creamy chocolate hazelnut torte was the standout star
in a standout selection, although the chocolate lovers
among us (who said the totrte was great) preferred
the chocolate brownie for "chocolate power." Service is
always friendly, timely, and reliable -- and their
graciousness toward the grandchild among us was
appreciated. Three visits this winter and three more
five-star recommendations for Victorian Garden as a
great experience every time!

Comments: Even though our doctor's appointment
ended two hours before we could get a reservation at
Victorian Garden, we "wasted time" in the Prescott area
just so we could eat lunch there---and it was worth the
wait. Today's 5-onion soup was a delicious surprise,
and the mango/chicken salad was to die for---at least
we thought so until we had the luscious creamy dessert
and found placing it into our mouths was like arriving in
heaven! Strawberry yogurt scones and delicious finger
sandwiches of such unexpected combinations as apricot and ham on whole wheat or some yummy
walnut cream cheese on raisin bread added to the culinary adventure and delight of our meal. The table
was brightened by four different tea cozy color combinations as we each had chosen a different flavor
of tea. Today we asked and discovered every menu item
recipe is a unique creation by the owner. We have never
been disappointed in any way at Victorian Garden, and
it (again)receives highest marks in every category.

Comments: We go to Victorian Garden every time we
will be in Prescott during the day --- but make reservations if it will be
a Saturday, as they are not open Saturdays unless by appointment. Everything is home
made and served with love. I heard they were a bit
swamped one day when word of mouth resulted in many
quilters stopping for repast (without reservations) as
they were traveling from Phoenix to Prescott for a
quilting retreat, so I would recommend reservations
every time, so there is abundance of the delicious
offerings they usually have made for those who are
expected.
Everything here is so lovely --- the old house, the tea
items and other "collectibles" for sale, the table setup
for food, and the service. There is a great selection of
teas, served in individual teapots in tea cozies. In all the
(at least five) times we have dined at Victorian Garden,
we have never had poor service or food---and there is a
cookbook for sale there that has some of the most delectable of the recipes served. Luncheon salads are
especially a delicious adventure, as every time there
seems to be a different salad choice, as is the soup of
the day. Scones are often flavored in unexpected, but
luscious flavors. Lemon curd, cream, and jam are offered. Tea dainties are the standard
traditional items, beautifully presented and SO delicious!
The only non-Victorian touch is there is no tea strainer,
as the tea is in teabags, which explains why there is
such a wide array of tea choices, I suppose ---
some of which are not actual tea, but are those non-caffeine
alternatives that are so tantalizing for the tea drinkers
(even though I always end up ordering actual tea)
and so satisfying to those who are not tea drinkers but enjoy
a ladies day out in such a feminine place, even if we
must call it "tea"!
I highly recommend to Valley of the Sun residents a day
trip to Prescott with lunch or afternoon tea at the
Victorian Garden Tea Room! It's our favorite tea in all of
Arizona!

been to some of the best in this country and
Canada. Exquisite service, selection of teas,
surroundings, and food make for a memorable
experience. And so generous, too ... my servers
came back with silver trays of both the sandwiches

bill after service charge, tax, and gratuity was
$40, it was well worth it. A stupendous

When we called to make a reservation, we were
firmly told they were "fully committed"
for the entire month! No waiting list. No
reservations available. Period. So we called again
the very next day and surprisingly, we were given
a reservation! But here's what we noticed: there's
a second lobby area adjoining the main tea area,
which is also set for tea (and there were only a
few tables taken)! They appear to accommodate
walk-ins but they don't tell you this. However you
sneak in, this fabulous tea is definitely worth

Comments: No one greeted us at the door.
We had to track down the waitress after about
15min. of standing in the reception area. The
scones were positively awful. The sandwiches were
fine, the fruit was fine. The sweets were
obviously store purchased, cut in small chunks and
very ordinary. The price is outrageous for what
you get. The sparkling peach beverage was good.
The waitress brought the wrong tea twice and did
not know the meaning of "steep." The
waitress could not speak English very well and
knew nothing of what a ladies tea should be like.
There were five of us there and we were the only
ones in the restaurant and I can really understant
why. I was so disappointed. I read an article
about this place in Phoenix Magazine and brought
out of town guests here because it was

definitely not worth half that amount.

Comments: We chose this tearoom while visiting
Tucson because of the quaint name. But the location,
building, and small facility it is housed in are old/dingy
and don't reflect the name's appeal. We did like their
use of mismatched china teacups, the traditional English food offerings, and use of Brown Betty
teapots. They only serve a black unflavored tea (not identified by
name when I asked the server). We had hoped for choices since we love unusual teas. I think if they
moved the business, updated some furnishings/decor,
and offered a selection of teas to choose from, it could
be lovely. Ambience is important to us while for others
not so much. It's the main reason I don't give it a better
rating. The owner told us she is carrying only British
items in the gift shop which is small.
